“Age in Place

The driving concept for this design is population. The various ages of residents allow a strong mix for activities for them to work together. The main focus is for the resident of older generations to have the chance to be more involved in the ever changing elements to a neighborhood. The design concept is park connectivity. The soul goal is using community parcels to involve more neighborhood participation. Churches Community centers, empty parcels, etc. With expanding on the residential pocket parks, it begins creating a series of walk-able mini parks that serve a particular purpose to its surroundings.

Residential Pocket Park The residential pocket park continues to create a connection to the residents of LPN. Generating more public activity in this particular zone, this pocket park allows a centralized space for recreation and leisure activity. -Senior Recreation -Recreation Path

Master Plan

The major concern of this project is to evaluate the lack of action taken for physical health in the aging communities. Taking the idea of personal fitness back to simply working out outside, jogging with in a neighborhood, or walking a trail in the community or park; may increase personal health, activity, and be prone to less required health assisted care. This problem was focused using case studies and literature with variations of the problem and who it affects. These initial case studies were, “George Hebert and the Natural Method of Physical Culture” by unknown, “Geriatric Physical Therapy” by Thomas C. Weiss, and Mountain Lake Park, San Francisco, Ca designed by William Hammond Hall. There were also case studies used for analysis such as Country Village Park in Miami, Fl and A.D. “Doug” Barnes Park in Miami, FL. As a synopsis each park focuses on a particular item which would probably be the item of attraction to each park, comes off as bias to the community that is surrounded by.

Geriatric Muscle Analysis

Key principles will be based on the “Natural Method” as foundation for design development as well as Geriatric physical therapy. With the background idea of each principle they can be easily merged to the ideas of rehabilitation of today, focusing on promoting health and improving fitness. Following natural method’s guiding principles, Geriatric physical therapy play a specific role for health and wellness for these patients.Geriatric Physical Therapy key points focuses on the idea of increasing, restoring or maintaining range of motion, physical strength, flexibility, coordination, balance and endurance.
