Hello, I am Roel! I am currently a 3rd year student at the University of Waterloo School of Architecture. As society continues to develop, I believe that architecture can be a tool to transform humanity with inventive design and constant adaptation. I love to challenge myself and strive to assist with projects that prioritize the wellbeing of humans and their environment. Aside from architecture, I enjoy painting, fashion, traveling, and film. In all areas of interest, I love to experiment, focus on the details, and learn about foreign concepts.

Re: Reference for Roel Calosa
To Whom it May Concern, Our office welcomed Roel as an intern for four months in the fall of 2023. We had the pleasure of working together on the Parliament Slip Reactivation Barge Pool project. Using a variety of programs, including AutoCad which was new to him, Roel produced drawings, 3d images and graphics while working with tight turn around times. He was able to coordinate tasks efficiently while juggling multiple projects and deadlines. His approach was positive and proactive, making him easy to manage. While assisting the Marketing Department with a public engagement campaign, Roel displayed excellent collaboration skills and was responsive to direction and feedback. Roel took initiative and ownership over the assigned task and the resulting graphics were clear and well-received. On Glenmore, Roel continued to demonstrate his ability to quickly produce graphic materials and diagrams for the project team. The project architect was impressed by Roel’s commitment to acquiring new skills and ability to learn Revit. Roel took it upon himself to lead a few of our lunch time learning sessions, sharing his skills with the office on Enscape materials and documenting his session on Miro. Roel’s would make a great asset to any office and MJMA would happily welcome him back if the opportunity presents itself.
Sincerely,
Krista Clark, OAA, MRAIC Senior Associate MJMA

Affordable Housing
Location: Cambridge, ON Completed: December 2022 Collaborators: Jenny Hu Supervisor: Adrian Blackwell
3 to 1, Go! is an affordable housing project looking to unify, accommodate, and house 3 target demographics in a 6-storey red brick building. Students, Multi-Generational families, and the Houseless are the demographics that this project is curated to.
The building provides a variety of social spaces on the ground floor by reflecting the needs of its residents. It engages with the existing residential community by funneling locals into a central courtyard. The residential floors split off into 3 separate wings to house each particular demographic, with each wing of the building having a balance of private and shared spaces both inside and outside. Every unit is modularly constructed to allow for a quick and affordable construction process. With all of these factors, 3 to 1, Go! strives to dismantle housing alienation through the unification and accommodation of our 3 target demographics

Library
Residing next to the Prince Edward Viaduct, a bridge that once held the second-highest number of suicide jumps in North America, and within the commercial zone of Danforth Ave, which faced many business closures and layoffs post-COVID, this library aims to respond to the area’s psychological and economic needs.
Formerly occupied by a Pizza Pizza, Haven 85 provides a cafe on the first floor, therapy office and traditional library on the 2nd Floor, and a community greenhouse on the 3rd floor. Through biophilic architecture, the library seeks to better the mental health of visitors with elaborate openings that frame areas lush with vegetation and scattered planters for workers to grow tea and Mediterranean herbs for the cafe. To alleviate visual tension sharp corners that tend to create, most pieces of furniture, wall corners, windows, doors and openings have been curved or rounded off, giving the library its unique appearance.

Vantage Points of Healing
23
Location: French River Provincial Park, ON Completed: August 2023 Supervisor: Scott Sorli
Bereavement Camp
Bereavement camps are healing retreats for those who’ve lost loved ones, offering emotional support and therapeutic activities. These camps are funded by sponsors, covering costs for counseling, accommodations, and activities, enabling participants to heal without financial stress.
Nestled at Pine Cove by the French River, Vantage Points of Healing offers a twoweek summer camp for 54 youths who have recently lost a loved one. The camp combines traditional camping activities with tools to help them collectively cope with loss. Staff reside in the reception building or dining hall, while campers stay in bunkies across the cove, grouped by age. Ameneties and programmed activities for the campers are provided at the counseling building and main lodge. The design of buildings and landscape aims to foster moments of privacy, interaction, and engagement through decked patios, pathways, and elevational changes of buildings.
