Veterinary Technician RCTC graduates are primarily employed as veterinary technicians in private practice, but graduates also find employment in animal research facilities, herd health, laboratories, emergency clinics, and in the veterinary division of the armed forces. Positions are also available in zoo and wildlife medicine, humane societies, education, and conservation. The job opportunities in this field are rated as excellent. The job outlook is 52% and it is listed as an occupation that will grow much faster than the average between the years of 2010-2020. RCTC veterinary technician graduates are employed throughout the state and country. Upon graduation, students may sit for their board examinations in order to become credentialed veterinary technicians or CVTs. RCTC graduates are successful in securing employment in their field. Nationwide, the average wage is about $15 per hour or $30,000 annually. In the Midwest, graduates start at $12 - $15 per hour depending on the type of practice they might join. Many veterinary technician graduates also receive insurance and continuing education funds.
