According to the Kinder Institute, 214,665 households in Harris County make less than 80% of the median income and spend more than 50% of their total income on housing. It is estimated that Hurricane Harvey damaged one third of Houston’s housing stock. Much of the damage occurred in lower income neighborhoods exasperating the region’s affordable housing crisis. These households are at risk.

For over twenty years RDLR architects has championed lower income families by providing award winning public assisted housing design that promote families and communities. The firm is responsible for numerous HUD and CDBG funded housing development resulting in approximately 1800 single and multi-family homes including homes for the disabled and seniors. We take great pride in knowing that these projects have transformed lives.

Design with Historic Context

The new homes in the development are designed to be compact while creating usable and functional living spaces. The structure’s style, with high ceilings and elongated windows is reminiscent of the historic island homes, yet they utilize modern materials selected for their low maintenance qualities.
