Have you ever wondered about Australian food? Well I am here to tell you a little bit about it. Did you know that meat makes up a large part of an Australian’s diet? Neither did I. Also, older Australians prefer tea as their choice drink. While younger Australians prefer coffee. Other than tea and coffee, many Australians like to drink red or white wine regularily.
Thanks to their diet of meat, Australians are well known for their barbecues. Australians also like to eat all kinds of European, Asian, and American food. Australian food also includes vegmite, a salty sandwich spread (Although it is rare for a non-australian to actually like to eat vegemite, so I don’t recommend that you try it if you ever happen to be in Australia.) Australians even like to eat seafood (Bet you didn’t know that!).
Australians also have their own recipes. These recipes were originally based on British cooking. Australians also like a variety of veg and non-veg foods like pies, cuts of meat, chops, etc. Australians also use their local fruits and plants to create delicacies. Australian recipes include Lemon Myrtle, Mountain Pepper, Native Spinach, Bush Tomatoes, and Macadamia Nuts. As you can see Australian food has some differences and similarities to our food so whenever you are in Australia, try some Australian food who knows? Maybe you’ll actually like vegemite (But trying it is your decision, although if you do try vegemite and hate it, remember, I warned you.).
Right, today Australia boats 379 species of mammals, including 80% of the worlds. That’s a lot. So, what’s it like? Well, for species there are 54 species of parrots in Australia, 600 of other birds. Most of the 140 species of marsupials in Australia are found nowhere else in the world. Since European settlement, some 29 mammal species have become extinct from the mainland Australia.
Now, Marsupials. Marsupials include the koala, the wombat, the marsupials mole and the Tasmanian devil. Marsupials evolved in North America, found their way to South America and then into Australia via Antarctica. Some Marsupials are also found in New Guinea which was connected to Australia in more recent geological times. Plus the word ‘’koala’’ comes from aboriginal word meaning ‘’does not drink’’.
Other things about Australia are that when the first Europeans settled in Australia which meant that a number of species of bird’s animals and plants have become extinct. Gum trees, to keep their leaves and loose their bark. And finally there are similar to mammals in being covered in fur and bearing live young which are suckled by the mother.

Title: impressive instincts The mother dingo regurgitates food for her young. Koala bears can make an extremely loud and aggressive growling noise. The thorny devil is a harmless, but a ferocious-looking Australian lizard. The frilled lizard is an Australian animal that uses its frill to scare of predators or enemies. The mangles kangaroo paw has an exclusively narrowly long beak ideal for collecting nectar. The honey possum has a long snout to help it gather nectar from flower heads.
