Italy is located in Europe, and the Mediterranean Sea. The capital of Italy is Rome.

Italy’s flag is. . .

Family and everyday life is big with the Italian people. Italians are warm welcoming people who love to relax and talk with family and friends. Family dinners in Italy are like a party! It lasts up to about two to three hours. That is really long compared to my family.

Speaking of dinner and food, my subject it food! Fish, is a very popular food because they border the Mediterranean Sea. The fish is the symbol of the Italian culture. They eat fish during their feast because they can’t eat meat.

They love to eat on holidays, and this is my subject. In Italy, they can’t eat certain kinds of foods on the day before Christmas. Christmas in Italy doesn’t last for one day; it lasts for a whole month!

Italians have a passion for eating and talking. When Italian families get together, they mostly talk about culture, art, films, the food they are eating, wine, and especially SOCCER! Soccer is one of the most popular sports in Italy. (They actually call the sport Calcio.)

One of the most important foods in Italy is cheese. It’s almost impossible to have a meal in Italy without some sort of cheese. It reminded me of our old school, because every there was cheese in the meal. YUCK! Pizza originated in Italy, but started as just flour, oil, salt, and yeast as the ingredients. This food was very common for less-wealthy people to make.

Rome’s birthday is April 21 founded in 753 B.C. May Day, which means the day of the worker. August 15 is Ferragosto. This is a national holiday when businesses and shops are all closed. December 26th, is “Boxing Day.” They celebrate Boxing Day on the day after Christmas. They celebrate by going to sporting events and being with family and friends.

Large families always have a lot of boys. Here, in America, it seems like there is a lot of girls. The boys, or sons, in the family live at home until they are in their 20s. I wouldn’t like that because my brother is really annoying.

Italy is the world’s leading producer of lemons. They have good weather for lots of other citrus fruits too. I love lemons, so that would be cool to live there! Since lemons are popular there, let’s talk about another popular food, Pasta. Pasta wasn’t brought over by Marco Polo, it was actually known for the Etruscan and Roman Times. Marco Polo was from China and a Venetian Merchant. Pasta and noodles are also popular in China, so that’s why people thought he brought it over.

In 2006, on April 27 it was Easter Monday. In the United States, we also celebrate Easter with the Easter bunny, coloring eggs, and many more traditions. I bet in Italy, they have their own traditions. The person who is fasting at Christmas sometimes doesn’t eat at all. Fasting means not eating certain kinds of foods for a specific reason.

3 generations- grandparents, parents, and children all live together. That isn’t very common here. I couldn’t see that happening in my family. They usually stay for up to 1 week or so.

Parents often live in their children’s houses and care for the grandchildren. Parents usually live at their own house, and then if their children need help they come to the house and help them out.

Each Italian eats an average of 63 pounds of meat per year. Americans, although, eat 110 pounds of meat per year. That might seem like a lot but not compared to the U.S.

There are different foods in the Country of Italy. The North is rich and has fertile soil. It is known for its sparkling, fragment wines. Also, they are known for delicious, their rice dishes, and fish dishes. The south is poor and has dry land. They are known for simple home cooking, unique ingredients, and sauces.

In Italy on Christmas Eve, they have a large feast with their family. We also have a large feast with our family and friends. Also, across the world they celebrate Christmas with a large feast. Italy has a lot of holidays! Well, across the world they have lots of holidays; the most common holiday is Christmas!
