History of Ireland About 70 million people worldwide contain Irish heritage. Since Ireland gained its independence in the 1900s, many Irish people have sought to bring the Irish language in wider use. The first settlements of Ireland were around 6000 B.C. In the 9th and 10th century Ireland was under attack by Vikings. In 1727 Catholics were not allowed to vote. From the later 12th century to about 1400, many Normans from England moved to Ireland.

Ireland’s Food and Culture about Food
Ireland is a country that is wonderful with food. Most traditional dishes have their roots in potatoes and bread. One of their most common drinks at every meal is tea. Their breakfasts usually are large and include such loyal to there home bakeries for breakfast and every meal.
Northern Ireland’s rich and unique bakery tradition is a delight for most visitors. Most market towns and villages in Northern Ireland still have bustling business. Often in their second or third generation. Ireland’s most famous products include stout, a type of beer, delicate cut glass,
high quality linen, and fine woolen clothing. The potato, which has long been important to Ireland’s economy, is one of the country’s major agricultural products. However, agricultural has declined in importance since the 1902’s and today Ireland’s economy depends heavily on service industries and manufacturing. The main meats eaten for dinner include chicken, pork, beef, and lamb. Often delicacies include cubeens (pig feet) and colcannon (a cooked mixture of potatoes and cabbage.) Smoked salmon is considered an Irish specialty as are Irish stew and Irish lamb. For hundreds of years, nearly all the Irish people made their living from farming, and many still do.

In Ireland the churches and pub’s are the main source of social interaction. Pubs in Ireland sell alcohol, coffee and tea. Alcoholism is a serious problem in Ireland. Superstitious relatives may listen for the cry of a Banshee. A Banshee is mythical creature that always wails after death.
In Ireland religion is 94% catholic and less than 4% protestant. Almost all people in Ireland speak English. Only Âź of Ireland speaks Irish. Ireland also has a population of
3,540,643 people. The Irish military is about 13,000 people.

Ireland is the only country in the world that has wind mills that turn counter clock wise. Saint Patrick’s real name is Madelyn Scat. He was also born in Remain Britain so he is not Irish. Also Ireland is the only country in the world to Have a musical instrument as a national emblem the emblem is a harp. The End
