Chapter 1 Poland Arts Poland has a very rich tradition of art, literature, music, and dancing. Some famous painters are Jacek Malczewski, Stanislaw Wyspiansk, and many other Polish citizens. The paintings of Jan Matejko show scenes from Polish history, and carved wooden sculptures are an important part of Polish folk art. Art has a positive influence on the global culture, and some other wellknown Polish folk art is ceramics, embroidery, and paintings. Did you know that movies are also a popular art form?
Another type of art is music. Frederic Chopin is the country’s best-known musician. He wrote many songs based on Polish danced and folk themes. Many folk songs are lighthearted and sad at the same time. In Poland, pop music is not as popular like hip hop and rock. Also, music was inspired by the Polish Folklores.

One more type of art is literature. Adam Mickiewicz was a famous poet. Wald slaw S. Reymont (poet) wrote The Peasants who won the prize in 1924. Henryk Sienkiewicz won the noble prize in literature in 1905 for his poems. Did you know that Polish literature was first written in the 14th century?
Chapter 2 Food Polish people eat breakfast at 6:30-8am, a second breakfast at 10am, their main meal at 3pm, and an evening meal at 68:30pm. On the table for polish meals cloth napkins, freshly cut flowers, China serving dishes, salt, pepper, and horse radish are all set out. While at the table Poles (people from Poland) have their hands above the table, but not their elbows, with a fork in their left hand and a knife in their right. Conversation during and after the meal is very normal in Poland just like here. In Poland during a meal it is impolite to leave the table before everyone is done eating. http://www.gmakkas.com/blogs/smacznego/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/100221_093.jpg
Poles eat hearty foods which are made up of meat, vegetables, and grains. Wild game is plentiful in Poland, but meat is not eaten in great amounts at one time. Pork is Poland’s main meat and has become Poland’s best known product. Wheat, rye, barley, potatoes, sugar beets, and sunflower seeds are all grown in Poland. Polish fishermen catch flounder, salmon, trout, and Northern Sea herring.

Much of the wild game in Poland ends up in Poland’s national dish- Hunters Stew. More than 90 kinds of sausage are made in Poland. Beets and cabbage (most famous food in Poland) are used in salads. Polish rulers often married foreign people who brought foreign dishes with them like Hungarian goulash, Italian vegetables, macaroni, and French Pastries.

The National Polish-American Sports Hall of Fame was founded in 1973 to honor and recognize outstanding athletes. Their mission is, “…to recognize and preserve outstanding achievement… in the field of sports and to educate the entire community with the hope of encouraging and inspiring personal excellence.” and they stick to this mission! Each year inductees to the Hall of Fame are elected in a nationwide vote among the Hall of Fame officers and over 500 Sports Panel Council members. Any athlete of Polish-American descent who meets the requirements can be nominated and voted on.

Other fun things Poles like to do are watching Football and other sports. Mountaineering in the Tatra's is very popular among Poles as well as spelunking and horse back riding. Hiking is also a fun thing to do, so is biking. Sailing on the Baltic and the Masurian lakes is another hobby.
