Artist Statement My practice involves reads of beyond 4 Dimensional [READ>4D] interpretations that experiment without notions of fixed time, geographical location or dimensional size and spatial boundaries. The current series Red Online 08-14, explores multi gendered, adult online, sexual communications as one with fluid foundational profiles of architectural frameworks. Aesthetically I aim to surface narratives from different times simultaneously, reflecting varieties of physical, analogue and digital representations beyond 4D. The work builds ‘reads’ upon architectural background, influenced by photographic studies taken of a nearby construction site. Multiple studies of the site’s adaptation convey solid as fluid and subjectively representative of past, present and future circumstances. The Strathfield Car Radio series therefore does not identify to various titles, sizes or times and each study is considered, for the purpose of my work, the same READ>4D. The Red Online series reflects the similarity between the construction site and online profiles. All identities are related, visualised and developed by adapting architectural frameworks with conflicting boundaries. Read Da Vinci Brain – A Point Of Light aimed to further illustrate with communications across time and space with ‘Da Vinci’. This concerned a point of uninterrupted light and the impossibility of a single fixed focus. I have used three of Da Vinci’s translated quotes that appear in the animation, written text and voice over as well I have used a copy of a ‘Virtuous Man’ image that circulates as a background against sections from the Red Online art series. These were Photoshoped, animated in PowerPoint, edited and converted with AVS. I love that Da Vinci’s work can be assumed a print, devoiding importance of an original which only identifies to a time and place. Even if an original is possibly sighted, it would portray after the copy and hence a form of print. Multi-Media options and availabilities show constant uses that recognise beyond 4D negotiations in general practice. The practical and effortless ways we can view, hear, see, create, send and copy simultaneously, to multiples time zones and spaces, with multiple options, transforms the way we consider up to 4D to ‘beyond’ and ‘more then’ (>) dimensions. I believe these ways of knowing moves us away from Leonardo Da Vinci’s, ‘point of light’ and single focus into relationships of interfocus and less single definitive answers, also towards a changing array of answers displayed in patterns of use. Informing interpretations of >4D practice, on and offline, real and unreal simultaneously. To limit up to 4D is an impossibility and so I aim to develop discourse and practice to be READ>4D. Currently I am in the process of obtaining a certified trademark for READ>4D with IP Australia. It is hoped that it will be available not-for-profit, informing creative arts, methodology and dialogue. REid. July, 2014 13
