Regina Buryak Mixed Media Portrait Painter Regina Buryak is a published watercolor and ink, mixed media portrait artist, living in the Bay Area of San Francisco. She specializes in female portraits in the contemporary / pop art and fashion illustration style often veering into the pop surreal world. She incredibly didn’t pick up a paintbrush until the summer of 2015 at a local crafting class, by happenstance. Now she paints every day, describing her experience as a “flow” that she feels for the first time in her adult life. Her distinctive style always draws attention to the eyes through graphics, color, or in this series even using painted insects. Voluminous hair in candy colors is another of her signatures. Her portraits are often adorned with striking graphic elements, floral additions, abstract and bold patterns, dramatic colors and a subtle emotional melancholy. One would guess that Regina is also an abstract botanical painter with a focus on color and organic shapes. She works out of her home studio and continues to paint each day, beautiful, ethereal things that catch her eye.

TheMET FAVORITE EXHIBITIONS
Michelangelo: Divine Draftsman and Designer - At The Met Fifth Avenue NOVEMBER 13, 2017–FEBRUARY 12, 2018 Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475–1564), a towering genius in the history of Western art, will be the subject of this oncein-a-lifetime exhibition. During his long life, Michelangelo was celebrated for the excellence of his disegno, the power of drawing and invention that provided the foundation for all the arts. For his mastery of drawing, design, sculpture, painting, and architecture, he was called Il Divino (“the divine one”) by his contemporaries. His powerful imagery and dazzling technical virtuosity transported viewers and imbued all of his works with a staggering force that continues to enthrall us today. This exhibition will present a stunning range and number of works by the artist: approximately 150 of his drawings, three of his marble sculptures, his earliest painting, his wood architectural model for a chapel vault, as well as a substantial body of complementary works by other artists for comparison and context. Among the extraordinary international loans are the complete series of masterpiece drawings he created for his friend Tommaso de’ Cavalieri and a monumental cartoon for his last fresco in the Vatican Palace. Selected from 54 public and private collections in the United States and Europe, the exhibition will examine Michelangelo’s rich legacy as a supreme draftsman and designer. HOT EXHIBITION
Japanese Bamboo Art: The Abbey Collection - Exhibition Overview Featuring works of Japanese bamboo art dating from the late 19th century to the present—the period when basketry in Japan became recognized as an art form that transcends “craft”—this loan exhibition showcases more than 80 bamboo baskets and sculptures created by accomplished artists, including all six masters who have received the designation “Living National Treasure.” Highlighting key stages in the modern history of Japanese bamboo art, the exhibition is drawn from the Abbey Collection, one of the finest private collections of Japanese baskets and bamboo sculpture; most of the works have never before been presented in public. More than 70 of these remarkable objects—promised gifts to The Met from long-time New York residents Diane and Arthur Abbey—will become part of the Museum’s collection, bringing added depth to its already incomparable holdings in Asian art and allowing the Museum to tell the modern history of Japanese basketry from the 1880s through the present. Complementing the bamboo works from the Abbey Collection is a lavish selection of hanging scroll and screen paintings and decorative arts, all from The Met’s holdings, that explores the bamboo motif along with related themes such as ikebana (flower arranging) and the tea ceremony. The exhibition and accompanying Bulletin are made possible by Diane and Arthur Abbey. Ikebana arrangements are created by the Ikebana International New York Chapter. Special thanks to Judith S. Hata and Hazue Tamura-Rogers from the Sogetsu School, and Beverly Hashimoto from the Ohara School.
The Carpet Exhibition This exhibition features six small Iranian carpets of the 16th and 17th centuries that have recently been conserved by the Department of Textile Conservation thanks to the proceeds from the Museum’s annual celebration of the Persian New Year, the NoRuz at The Met Gala (2013). The carpets include two lively 16th-century animal combat examples, one with a group of merrymakers seated around a duck pond. Another is a prayer rug of the distinctive “Salting” type, named after the British collector who first acquired these rugs. The three 17th-century carpets from the period of Shah ‘Abbas the Great (1587–1629) are made of silk and precious metal thread. Opulent weavings of this type decorated palaces in Isfahan, to the amazement of European visitors. The labels and text panels in this exhibition focus on the conservation of the carpets as well as their place in the history and art history of Safavid Iran. The exhibition is made possible by The Hagop Kevorkian Fund. The scenes depicted on this carpet (top image) may allude to the bazm, or the feast that followed the battle in Iranian history and literature. Carpets of this type (bottom image) are known to have been sold to Polish nobility in the early seventeenth century and others were presented as gifts by Shah Abbas I (reigned 1587–1629). THE ROOF GARDEN COMMISSION:
Adrián Villar Rojas, The Theater of Disappearance
Argentinian artist Adrián Villar Rojas has created a site-specific installation for The Met’s Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden. The Roof Garden Commission: Adrián Villar Rojas, The Theater of Disappearance will be on view from April 14 through October 29, 2017 (weather permitting). Villar Rojas—known for his large-scale installations—has transformed the Cantor Roof. Sixteen sculptures that fuse human figures with replicas of nearly 100 objects from the Museum’s collection, occupying a new black, white, and gray tiled floor, the installation also encompasses an environmental transformation of the space, including an extension of the existing pergola and new plantings, public furniture, and a newly designed bar. The exhibition is supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies. Additional support was provided by Cynthia Hazen Polsky and Leon B. Polsky. Sheena Wagstaff, Leonard A. Lauder Chairman of Modern and Contemporary Art, said: “This is the fifth year of the Museum’s newly redefined series of Cantor Roof Garden commissions. For his project, Adrián Villar Rojas took on the colossal task of investigating the Museum’s collecting practices from a personal socio-historical viewpoint, laying open his reinterpretation of the collection free of the usual underpinnings of curatorial interpretation and historical reference. In the process, he holds a mirror up to what we do at the Museum, questioning how we elect to present cultural history over time.” To realize the project, Villar Rojas immersed himself in the Museum’s history and collections, holding conversations with individuals across the institution, including curators, scientific researchers, objects conservators, and imaging specialists. He has also reconciled the Cantor Roof’s many functions as a gallery, a bar, and a popular vantage point from which to view Manhattan’s expansive skyline. The artist integrated these aspects of the space into his installation by working each element—from the floor to the bar—into the conceit of a fantastical event in which white tables are punctuated by black sculptures, all coated in a layer of dust. In accepting the commission, the artist encountered a history of human culture that emerges from the Museum’s galleries. The Theater of Disappearance presents a story of objects presented without historical interpretation. Using 3D scanning and advanced imaging techniques, the Museum scanned and replicated objects from the collection. In parallel, using the same technology, human figures were also scanned; the models’ bodies and gestures captured as if they were objects. The 3D models were then spliced together with the artifacts to form sculptural amalgamations, resulting in sculptures that absorb and re-present the imagery of Museum objects, being held and touched, unconstrained by demarcations of culture or time. In probing the Museum’s role in framing historical truth, Villar Rojas succeeds in questioning its traditional presentations, allowing for the reactivation and a reinterpretation of art and human culture. The Roof Garden Commission: Adrián Villar Rojas, The Theater of Disappearance was conceived by Sheena Wagstaff, Leonard A. Lauder Chairman of Modern and Contemporary Art, and curated by Beatrice Galilee, Daniel Brodsky Associate Curator of Architecture and Design, both of The Met’s Department of Modern and Contemporary Art, in consultation with the artist. It is the fifth in a series of site-specific commissions for the outdoor space. The Roof Garden Commission: Adrián Villar Rojas, The Theater of Disappearance is featured on The Met website, as well as on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter via the hashtag #CantorRoof.
Adrián Villar Rojas Adrián Villar Rojas (Rosario, Argentina, born 1980) recent solo exhibitions include: Fantasma, Moderna Museet, Stockholm, Sweden (2015); Rinascimento, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Torino, Italy (2015); Today We Reboot The Planet, Serpentine Gallery, London (2013); The Evolution of God, Highline, New York (2013); and Poems For Earthlings, SAM ART Projects, Musée du Louvre, Paris (2011). Major international exhibitions include: the 6th Marrakech Biennale, Marrakech, Morocco (2016); The Most Beautifull of All Mothers, the 14th Istanbul Biennial, Istanbul, Turkey (2015); Storylines: Contemporary Art at the Guggenheim, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York (2015); and Return the World, Documenta 13, Kassel, Germany (2012). Villar Rojas has been the recipient of several awards including the Sharjah Biennial Prize, awarded by the Sharjah Art Foundation (SAF) (2015); the Zurich Art Prize at the Museum Haus Konstruktiv (2013); and the 9th Benesse Prize in the 54th Venice Biennial (2011). The Theater of Disappearance seeks to dialogue with the vision and division of The Met’s patrimony. An entire cartography of human culture seems to emerge from the Museum’s wings and rooms. Rather than a mirror of facts, the Museum becomes a version of them: America’s map of human activity on earth, a scale-model account of who we are and how we got here. Trend Privé Magazine 11

After watching the Golden Globes 2017, I was inspired and not only did my inspiration go beyond. But, by “Beyond” I mean that I decided to express my excitement through sketching. After thinking about how I would sketch, in the end, this is what I came up with. So here are some of my favorite Red Carpet looks from the 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards, which I would like to share with you. Model and presenter Naomi Campbell showed off her incredible body in a black and pink one-shoulder dress by Atelier Versace to attend the 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards at The Beverly Hilton Hotel. Reese Witherspoon looked delightful in a pale yellow strapless dress by Atelier Versace, Christian Louboutin shoes and Tiffany & Co Jewelry. Catriona Balfe looked stunning in a sophisticated navy and red Delpozo gown paired with and Jimmy Choo clutch on the Golden Globes red carpet. “Westworld” actress, Thandie Newton was on fire in an off-the-shoulder dress by Monse featuring an orange sequin trim, Jimmy Choo shoes, and Harry Winston jewelry. Jessica Biel donned an Elie Saab Haute Couture sleeveless deep-v neckline gown and Salvatore Ferragano shoes.

Marc Jacobs During the summer we all have a beautiful golden glow, but when fall comes, so does dull, flat skin...but not anymore! Marc Jacobs Beauty has come up with a brilliant way to keep your skin bronzed and luminous all year long, their new Coconut Collection. The “Under(cover) Perfecting Coconut Face Primer,” is the start to your new smooth sun-kissed look. “Infused with five types of coconut to nourish and hydrate the complexion,” instantly you will notice your skin feeling smooth and the dullness that winter can bring, will be gone.
Next, you’ll want to apply Marc Jacobs foundation, but don’t forget your “Dew Drop Coconut Highlighter,” right into your foundation! The drops can be added directly and a tiny bit of this radiance goes a long way and adds the most stunning natural highlight. Next, we recommend an all over dusting of the limited edition “O!MEGA BRONZE,” paired with “THE BRONZE,” brush.
Images by: MariaNoel Bagnulo
THE BRONZE brush is also perfect for applying powder and your favorite blush. So now you just need to lock in this beautiful essence with the “Re(cover) Perfecting Coconut Mist. This 24-hour makeup setting spray ensures your makeup and glow won’t be going anywhere.
Too Faced This fall, burnt oranges, coppers, burgundies, reds, wines, purples, and browns will be all the rage, and one cosmetic brand has it dialed in. Too Faced has come out with beautiful new prismatic highlighters, bold budge proof matte lipsticks and a gorgeous 30 color shadow palette with all of the falls must have colors! I started most of my looks from the “Natural Love” palette with a matte usually “Lace Teddy, Honey Butter or Spotlight,” each of these matte shadows are perfectly pigmented and create a smooth surface to start your eye look. Next, I add my crease color these days depending on my mood and outfit, of course, it is either “Makeup & Chill, Nudie or Spoiled.” The “Makeup & Chill,” is perfect warm red-brown that is now a staple in my kit and on my clients, especially on my brides. With the “Natural Love” palette, the lid colors are endless! I first started using them individually and then learned when mixed together, I had more choices and almost doubling the number of colors in the palette. Some of my favorite combos have been “ Hot & Bothered” mixed with “Satin Sheets”, “Moonbeam mixed with Honeymoon” and “Bunny Nose mixed with Spoiled.” I finish every look with the cult favorite “Better Than Sex Mascara,” which is also now available in water proof formula. After applying my foundation I dust all my high points; top of the cheeks, the center of my nose and cupids bow with my prismatic highlighter in “You Light Up My Life.” I am a self-proclaimed “highlighter junkie” and with so many out these days, it is very, very hard to impress me, but right away this highlighter did. I’m Puerto Rican and Italian, with medium skin tone, and most highlighters don’t show on my skin or leave me with an odd gray-ash finish, but not “You Light Up My Life.” It is the PERFECT golden highlighter. I will be adding “Blinded By the Light,” which is a light champagne color and “Ray Of Light,’ a must-have rose-gold which I also anticipate will be a very popular fall color. I love how these three highlighters work perfectly on very light clients and on deeper skin-toned ones. I like to place a small amount onto a small blending brush spray with a primer water and apply for a more dramatic look. Since the “Natural Love,” palette is such a beautiful neutral look, I really love pairing it with a bold, bold lip. We all know matte lips are what’s in, and honestly you can’t go without them, long lasting, bold colors and Too Faced has come up with such unique colors. Right now I am loving “Granny Panties, Wicked and Wine Not?” Images by : Arnel Ian Dela Gente
Too Faced has the best of both world with their “Natural Love Collection,” naturally neutral and bold and beautiful!

Laura Mercier Candleglow Concealer and Highlighter
Often times our concealer and highlighter wears off throughout the day. A combination of sweet, and touching your face, will gradually take off the makeup that you so meticulously spent your morning applying. That’s why I keep the Laura Mercier Concealer and Highlighter in my bag wherever I go. Not only can you use it to apply your concealer, but it can also be used to highlight dark areas of your face, such as under your eyes. It lightens shadows around the face and will blur any blemish and imperfections you might have.

Skincare Analysis! By Erin Schweinsberg
TPM Print Senior Beauty Editor www.facebook.com/erinschweinsbergmakeupartistry
The ultimate skincare buying guide! There are many reasons to love the skin-care world! One one hand, it gives us hope that we can achieve our best flawless skin, reverse the damage, and change what we deem imperfect, whether it be large pores, discolorations, UV damage, or lines and wrinkle. On the other hand, the skin-care world can also be confusing. My clients often want clarification on what products do, (so they can decipher between what they think they need), and what they actually need. So here’s a breakdown of some popular skin-care products, the difference between similar products, and a little extra information to help you decide which ones might actually be right for you!
Toners and Essences!
www.cremedelamer.com The Treatment Lotion $140.00
www.itcosmetics.com Bye Bye Lines Serum $58.00
www.chantecaille.com Flower Harmonizing Cream $106.00
These 2 products get confused often, they come in bottles usually about the same size and look quite similar- they’re even the same watery consistency, but they do completely different things. Most people can benefit from using both a toner and an essence, but it’s not going to make or break your flawless skin goals if you don’t want to use both. Let’s talk about toners for a minute, even if you only have a basic skin care routine, most people know that toners are the second step after cleansing. They do a great job at restoring the skin’s PH balance, removing any excess dirt that the cleanser might have missed, and a lot of them now contain antioxidants for added benefits to your skin. An Essence, on the other hand, helps prep the skin for the next step in your skincare routine, it contains active ingredients, adds an extra layer of hydration, and it also helps aid in the regeneration process (which refers to the cell turnover in your skin). Both of these products are beneficial, however, an essence will provide more for your skin than a toner will (if it came down to a choice of one or the other), and that’s mostly due to the active ingredients it contains. It more or less comes down to personal preference, if you want to use both, and of course- your budget!
Serums and Moisturizers! Serums and Moisturizers are both so effective when it comes to achieving your skin-care goals! Let’s start with serums. Serums are a great addition to any skin care routine, anyone that has blotchy skin, premature aging, dullness, or sun spots; will get better results if they incorporate a serum. The molecules in serums are smaller than the molecules in moisturizers, so a serum can penetrate a deeper level of the skin that a moisturizer can’t. This is important as it can deliver hydration and nutrients to where it’s needed most, and target your skin-care concern in the dermis layer of your skin- whether it be for firmness, texture, or lines and wrinkles. Moisturizers, however, contain emollients to hydrate the skin and form a barrier on the surface of the skin, this is important to retain its hydration. Locking in the moisture after your skincare regimen is done is a necessity; everyone needs a moisturizer! If you’re currently using only a moisturizer but seeing desired results in your skin, then a serum may not be necessary for you yet; however, if your moisturizer is leaving you unsatisfied; it might be time to invest in the wonderful world of serums!
Eye Serums and Eye Creams! www.sisley-paris.com Botanical Eye and Lip Contour Complex $185.00
www.charlottetilbury.com Magic Eye Rescue $60.00
This is another confusing subject for some, and whilst both of these products are efficient, they are slightly different even if they have a common objective, and in most cases, it’s even recommended to use both together! Let’s start with eye serum- it’s identified usually as the thinner texture of the two products, but don’t let that fool you, eye serums are often considered the advanced version of eye creams! Like face serums, they can also penetrate a deeper level of the skin- which is usually why layering the eye serum with an eye cream is more effective. The ingredients in an eye serum are usually more concentrated, which helps achieve a better result than your average eye cream. So why use both products you ask? Because they usually concentrate on different aspects of eye concerns. Eye serum will usually address the anti-aging component deep in a different layer of the skin, whereas the eye cream will concentrate on the surface level problem. I will always recommend an eye cream to every client- no matter their age (and even if they don’t need anti-aging yet); because if I have learned anything from my many years in the beauty industry, it’s that everyone’s skin can use extra hydration!

Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil Luna Sleeping Night Oil is a next generation retinoid oil that claims to reduce the appearance of pores and wrinkles while fighting the signs of premature aging and redness. After a long day of pampering clients, I came home and showed myself some ELC (Esthetician Love and Care) steamed my face, cleansed my skin and applied the Luna sleeping night oil. It appears blue but as is massaged into the skin the color disappears. A quick tip when applying serums always wear gloves, so your hand isn’t absorbing all the magical goodness that will make you look 18 again. When the sun came up, I greeted it with a smile; I ran to the mirror to see if the magician delivered and: WALLAHHHHHHHA! My skin appeared so smooth, the pores were minimal, and it was like I had experienced a heavy exfoliation, deep cleansing and microdermabrasion! That was incredible! My skin appeared luminous, hydrated, and refreshed. The trans-retinoic acid ester reduces the appearance of the pores, fine lines, and uneven texture. Clinical studies have shown in 4 weeks-time reductions in fine lines. Skin appeared smooth. NOT for pregnant women though. I love this product for post-peels (chemical peels) because it doesn’t let the oil aspect worry you and it is something every skin type can use. Ingredients like avocado, seed oil (perfect for pumping), vitamins B, C, D, E and A are also found in this excellent oil. Chia seed oil is what helps to reduce the appearance of lines magically. Sunday Riley knows what’s good for you and now you do too. Product available for purchase at www.sephora.com Price points $105.00 for 1 oz/ 30 ml.
Herbivore Lapis Balancing Facial Oil Lapis Balancing Facial Oil- 1.7 oz of blue bliss. Recommend usage is to apply on cleansed skin a.m/ p.m. Can be used before makeup application but allow the product to absorb into the skin for approximately 1-3 minutes. Lapis facial oil is named after the natural Azulene -gorgeous blue tansy oil that it contains. This product is suited for combination, oily, and blemish-prone skin, or any kind of skin needing balance. When I received this product, my son was currently having a teen break out on his forehead, we proceeded with his normal skin care routine which also includes icing (using ice packs on the affected area can assist in treating inflammation), but we proceeded with the facial oil and that fell right into the routine, reducing any scarring that may have been. As we all know, going through puberty is as unbalanced as it gets next to pregnancy. I highly recommend this product. It leaves your skin feeling fantastic. Price point is $72.00 and can be found at www. herbivorebotanicals.com and www.sephora.com
Blue Tansy Resurfacing Mask Blue Tansy Resurfacing Mask- 2.3oz comes with an applicator and feels great to apply. The product applies on skin very thinly, so be prepared for a runny-like substance. Kat von D:
Benefits, Beauty, and Brains
Does the name Katherine von Drachenberg mean anything to you? How about Kat von D? While her name might evoke many images - a reality TV star, a heavily-tattooed rocker, a tattoo artist who has revolutionized the field, Jesse James, and deadmau5’s ex-girlfriend... The conversation we should be having revolves around a side of von D most of us don’t know. Her status is as a respected, classical musician (she was performing at just six years old!), the numerous charities she has championed and raised funds for, and her relentless drive to mainstream animal welfare while also having a vibrant, edgy makeup line. Kat von D was born in Montemorelos, Mexico and her family moved to Los Angeles when she was four. She largely credits her grandmother for her love and appreciation of art, and for getting her into classical piano training young. Thriving Latinx and Punk Rock culture in LA influenced young KvD’s creativity -her tattoo work centers mainly on incredibly life-like portraits, Latinx cultural iconography, and the music of both Beethoven and AC/DC alike. She received her first tattoo at fourteen (an Old-English letter ‘J’) and dropped out of high school to pursue the art of tattooing. After working in many shops around the LA area and making a name for herself with her attention to detail and incredible creativity, KvD was asked to join the cast at 305 Ink in Miami - the stars of the hit show “Miami Ink.” Differences with the crew and her journey into sobriety led von D to head back to her hometown and open her own studio High Voltage Tattoo in 2007. That same year she set out to break the Guinness World Record for many tattoos completed in a single day. She broke the record by inking over 400 fans and gave the proceeds to a group called Vitamin Angels, a group who aims to prevent and end global malnutrition through vitamin distribution in the developing world. In 2008 Kat von D partnered with Sephora to create her makeup line, which became instantly beloved by both pros and consumers alike. She has said of her line that she wants to “give everyone the tools to inspire and create.” The silky texture and unbelievable staying power of the ‘Everlasting Liquid Lipstick’ (as well as the many fun shades, with names like “Backstage Bambi,” “Outlaw,” and “Lovecraft”) Became a must-have for anyone who loves lipstick. The same care and attention that von D shows in her tattoo work are apparent in her makeup line. She draws 100% of the artwork on her line by hand. In an interview with Pages Digital, she said: ”The artwork on my packaging was something I painstakingly micro-managed—for example, I treat it like a tattoo, taking into consideration the muscle structure and seeing where the line lands on the existing body. For the rose pattern, it’s not a repeat pattern. I’ve drawn everything to work on each product, which makes it feel solid and
complete.” Kat von D’s Studded Kiss Lipstick in ‘Lolita’ was Sephora’s number one selling lipstick for all of 2015. Her Shade and Light Eyeshadow palette is one of her many products I view as an unmissable staple in my beauty kit and features matte, blendable shades in a range of colors perfect for contouring the eye. On her social media accounts, she has done what all beauty-lovers dream of doing, and publicly decried knock-off cosmetics companies for creating unsafe, unregulated copies that capitalize on others’ work. 2011 marked the first year von D merged her love of makeup with her love of making the world a better place. For Fall 2011, she released two palettes in her Sephora-exclusive line that benefited Art of Elysium. Founded in 1997 by Jennifer Howell, Art of Elysium coordinates therapeutic art programs for youth who are hospitalized or in long-term treatment. The makeup maven has since become very vocal about her veganism and her quest to ensure fair and ethical treatment of animals. She took her entire brand back to the drawing board to make sure that everything - from the creamy Studded Kiss lipsticks to the high-coverage Lock-It Foundations, to her high-color eyeshadow palettes were all produced without animal cruelty or animal by-products. Numerous products in her new line have benefitted animal sanctuaries and causes since. Sales from her Five Fearless Years limited edition Tattoo EyeLiner helped the California Wildlife Center- a non-profit who rehabilitates, rescues, and advocates for native wildlife. Two of her Studded Kiss lipstick shades are named after her rescued hairless cats, Poe and Piaf, whom she openly dotes upon on both her beauty and personal Instagram accounts. In the fall of 2016, she launched a special edition red called “Project Chimps” which raised over $236,000 for the Georgia-based sanctuary of the same name, whose mission is to rescue chimpanzees used for medical research and give them a comfortable ‘retirement’ and rehabilitation. She has announced that later in 2017 a four-color lipstick line will be launched benefitting Farm Sanctuary, an American animal welfare society who shelters and cares for abused and abandoned farm animals. From her beauty website’s manifesto, we are left with a statement that calls us to be a little more unique and genuine to ourselves each day; “We are bold, unapologetic, outspoken and different in our way. We are artists, poets, and lovers. We are the outsiders and the insiders.”. With that, this beauty pro must say: we should all try to be a little more like Kat von D - stand up for what you believe in, unapologetically be yourself, and never be afraid to wear a bit more lipstick. The name alone holds weight, power in the industry. An artist who creates strength and structure in her images. Pat McGrath MBE (Member Of The Order Of The British Empire ) is a British make-up artist. She has been called “the most influential make-up artist in the world” by Vogue magazine and other commentators. Born June 11, 1970, in North Hampton, England to Jean McGrath, who was a lover of fashion passed the creativity to her daughter by nurturing a creative mind. Jean McGrath heavily influenced McGrath’s creativity, often quizzing her on different shades of eyeshadow. While working with Edward Enninful, the then fashion editor of i.D Magazine, McGrath had her big break. In the early 1990s, when she created use of color that “brilliantly solved the world’s ennui with grunge” and helped launch i-D to a position of international importance. In the mid-1990s, she worked both with minimalist Jil Sander and with surrealist John Galliano, where she became known for her “latex petals stuck to faces, vinyl lips, bodies drenched in powder paint, and stylized Kabuki physiognomies. Her work in the runways leaves you breathless, gasping for air and wanting more. Constantly in demand by top celebrities such as Madonna, Oprah, Jennifer Lopez, Scarlett Johansson and Jennifer Aniston, Pat McGrath’s editorial work with top photographers like Steven Meisel for Italian Vogue and American Vogue continually breaks new ground. She collaborates with major fashion advertising campaigns such as: Prada, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga, Calvin Klein, Versace, Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana, Giorgio Armani, YSL, and Lanvin. She also dispenses her sought after knowledge in the expert advice pages of Allure and as a Beauty Director of the i-D magazine. October 29th, 2015 Gold 001 hit’s the scene, a gold eyeshadow (super pigmented) drops which are sold online only for $40.00. Limited quantities create havoc and products sell out immediately (which is still the case to date) Here we are 2017; Pat has already, very well established her products, which can be purchased on her website, as well as Sephora. Pretty amazing for an MUA with no formal training wouldn’t you say? Known for using her hands instead of make-up brushes, using bright/bold hues, latex, flowers, feathers, gold flakes, sparkly lips, glossy eye shadow and highlighters that can be seen from Mars. McGrath’s make up is meant to inspire, there’s no end to the possibilities one can create. Only a beautiful mind can dream up the art that she has created. Models graced the catwalk bringing art to the runway where makeup meets fashion. Club kids paint and play for the kids as they hit the dance floor, YouTubers create looks of inspiration for those who need guidance in the make-up modification, they all try to emulate Pat. Which brings me to Dark Star 006, which is now available at Sephora and with a price point of $130.00. Dark Star 006 can be yours for either the Ultraviolet Blue or the Ultrasuede Brown. Also, your kit will have holographic Cyber-Clear Gloss and Black SmudgeLiner. Warning product may cause temporary staining. While some may feel underwhelmed, I’m overwhelmed with this product (in a great way) user error is real. Please take the time to read instructions. This product is MEANT to be dramatic not to go to Whole Foods unless the paps are following you and want to put on an eye show (eye blinks).

Catrinel Marlon
INTERVIEW BY: Catalina Magee
Catrinel Marlon, also known as Catrinel Menghia, (born October 1, 1985, Iași), is a Romanian top fashion model and actress who is best known for her 2006 and 2009 appearances in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, and as the face of Giorgio Armani worldwide and French lingerie retailer Lise Charmel. Following her father`s footsteps, (champion in the 400 meters hurdles Olympic), Catrinel became an athlete before being discovered as a model at the age of sixteen by a local agent during a school trip to Bucharest. Six months later, she moved to the capital, where she started her career as a model. At age 16, Catrinel finished third in Ford’s “Supermodel of Romania” competition, and received the “Romania’s Model of the Year” (2002) award. As a model she has done advertisements for many big brands and notable companies as Fiat and David Yurman. She made her television debut at the age of 17, when she appeared in Cerceii Tai by Romanian band called “Krypton”. Catrinel`s acting career includes various films, such as: La città ideale directed by Luigi Lo Cascio, Tutti i rumori del mare directed by Federico Brugia, Leone nel basilico (2015), Tale of Tales (2015), CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (2013- TV Series), and much more. Catalina: Besides the gorgeous supermodel and extremely talented actress, painter, photographer and fashion designer that you are, what more is there to know about Catrinel Marlon? Catrinel: How much time do we have? :) There’s so much to know about a person when they’re not in the eyes of the world anymore. I always liked to be genuine and be myself in front of the camera just as much as behind it. I don’t like the alter ego stuff that some people have, for protection or whatever personal reasons they may have. I am who I am, and I love myself: the goofy Cat who likes to make weird faces just to entertain others, the childish me when I’m with my love, the artsy personality I get at 3 am, the entrepreneurial woman and that more private me when I need to meditate and recharge. Catalina: Tell us about your favorite childhood memory, please. Catrinel: Most of my childhood memories are about me getting in trouble with my sister. When we were together, things were going out of control. Of course, that involved fighting with each other as well, but we always protected and looked after one another, especially when someone else would come between us. My time with her was the best, and we both have now some pretty unique memories to remember. All FASHION THANKS TO: silviagiovanardi.com

Which roles that you played are your favorite? Catrinel: The acting career was a result of resilience for me. I was going through tough times and of high vulnerability after my divorce, and I felt a bit lost. I woke up one morning with a great determination to get back on track with my life. So, I decided to do something different. I went to a casting for a short movie, and I got the part. That was a beautiful turning point in my life. Catalina: Tell us about your most recent movie. What is it about? When and where can we watch it? What was the difficulty of your role and what is your favorite part about it? Some of my other movies can be seen on Netflix or iMovie. I believe that I am at the beginning of my acting career and I always have to be wary about the roles I accept to play. LuaNova INTERVIEW WITH Josh Brandão
We started with hair and made up at midnight in Tel Aviv, traveled through the night to arrive at 5 am at the dead sea, shot from sunrise until after sunset under a scorching sun. It was an intense and tough shoot, but worth all the effort. The Dead Sea, as we know, has no “life” due to the amount of salt in the water. No plants, no fish. So the concept started with us adding life to it, by introducing the models as beings growing out of the water and
the salt banks. Another interesting thing is that I decided to place the models directly behind the sun for several shots. Then the intense sunlight, together with the beautiful designs brought my stylist Shachar Rabanne, and Einat’s signature make-up turned the models into these radiant beings reflecting the sunlight. “Lua Nova” is Portuguese for “New Moon.” In astronomy, the new moon is character-

Tarryn Manning TEAM INTERVIEW BY: CATALINA MAGEE
Taryn Manning (born November 6, 1978) is an American actress, singer-songwriter, and
fashion designer. Manning made her film debut in the teen drama Crazy Beautiful (2001), followed by a lead part opposite Britney Spears in Crossroads (2002), which garnered her mainstream attention. She then appeared in 8 Mile (2002), White Oleander (2002), A Lot Like Love (2005), Hustle & Flow (2005) and Black Snake Moan (2007). Manning has also had recurring roles on television, such as Sons of Anarchy and Hawaii Five-0, and plays the role of Tiffany “Pennsatucky” Doggett in the Netflix original series Orange Is the New Black. Manning is the vocalist for the electronic duo Boomkat and is also a co-owner of the clothing brand Born Uniqorn. To find out more about Taryn, please check out Trend Prive Magazine`s Issue #28 and our interview with her. Catalina: How was it working with Taryn Manning? JC Segura: Taryn is a beautiful soul! She exudes so much positivity that it’s hard to feel sorry for anything around her. She’s a celebrity, but before that, she’s just an awesome, down to earth girl! I had so much fun talking about the most random topics with her. She is great! Alan: Taryn Manning is such a joy to work with! I loved her energy and spirit. Robert: This was the second time I had the privilege to work with Taryn, and both times she has been a pleasure to be around. She’s so engaging and loves to be a part of the collaboration process. As I was working on her makeup, she would look into the mirror from time to time and start getting into the feel of the look. She loved asking me what I was using and how to use it. We had a lot of fun! Carina: Amazing! Not only is she beautiful, but she is also sweet and funny. She had all of us laughing so hard the entire time. She makes you feel like you`re family. Catalina: If you could work with anybody in the world (dead or alive), whom would that be and why? JC Segura : For many, many reasons I would have to say the founder of Comme des Garcons, the one, and only Rei Kawakubo. Trend Privé Magazine 50

JC Segura: If you do not know who she is, I`ll tell you. She is a brilliant designer from Japan. Her silhouettes and play on shapes are what ignited the passion in me to become a wardrobe stylist! I would love to sit down with her and talk about art and fashion. Alan: If I could work with anyone dead or alive I would have loved to work with the late Alexander Mcqueen. Alexander had immense creativity. He always seemed to break the rules and stayed true to himself. Robert: Wow, this is a tough question, since there are so many I would love to work with! Well, I’m going to have to pick two, one living and one not. First one would have to be Natalie Portman. Her sophisticated beauty is both breathtaking and timeless. Plus, she has a killer smile. Secondly, it would be Audrey Hepburn for similar reasons. Audrey had a stellar smile, followed by a sophisticated and timeless beauty. Carina: Madonna – I have been a fan of hers since I was young. I love how bold she can be and how she is always changing things up in her music industry. Catalina: If you could live in any period of history, when would it be and why? Polish-American Fencer, Monica Aksamit has a whole lot going for her. She is beautiful, intelligent, hard-working, and is a highly fierce competitor. This 27-year-old American saber fencer represented the United States at the 2016 Summer Olympics, where she earned a bronze medal in the Women’s Saber Team event. Her motivation- a love for the sport, a passion for the excitement and ongoing challenge that the com-bat sport brings. Even though she has had incredible success on the world stage, she continues to keep forging forward- and every day Monica trains and competes, she learns something new. The sport of fencing requires setting into effect a tactical plan to score a point and to beat your opponent, enacting one’s plan with the movement of one’s body, which is masterfully trained over years of practice. The sport combines focus, flexibility, intensity, physicality, timing, and most of all, a tactical understanding and the ability to adapt to ever-changing circumstances. This skill set can be applied in both in sport and in life. We are tested every day with physical, mental and emotional challenges that seek to test us and throw us off our game. MIIK Miik started as an idea that was inspired by a magazine article on sustainable fabrics. Co-founder, Michael Gaughan, read the article and was immediately intrigued. Who knew that you could make fabric from corn, pineapple, milk, beech-wood, and eucalyptus? With one eye on fashion and the other on the environment, he decided to try his hand at designing a clothing line. He started researching bamboo and other sustainable fabrics. He loved the concept of slow fashion: “Instead of buying cheap, trendy clothing that would end up in a landfill site after one season, why not create clothes that are durable and well-made in simple, but striking designs?” He learned fairly quickly that not all bamboo is created equal, and that they would have to mill their own fabric locally to control the quality, weight, and color. Milling, designing, and sewing locally would also support local businesses and minimize carbon emissions. “My wife, Donna, thought I’d lost my mind as I already had my hands full running my own magazine production company.” But everything changed when Michael brought her home a bamboo skirt, “I wanted her to feel how unbelievably soft the fabric was.” Donna was skeptical at first – it wasn’t the most stylish piece! But once she tried it on, she couldn’t get enough of how soft the fabric felt against her skin. She didn’t take it off all summer. It was that skirt that truly convinced her of Miik’s full potential. If she was willing to wear something she didn’t even like because it felt so good, how much would she wear something she loved? “It wasn’t until Donna agreed to get involved that Miik became a real company and not just an expensive hobby,” says Michael. As a graphic designer with a deep-rooted passion for art and design, Donna took to creating timeless wardrobe staples for women seamlessly.

She literally walks the talk, sporting a Miik piece every day. Sustainability and Miik: More than just fabric “For us, sustainability goes beyond simply using greener fabrics and production processes. It even goes beyond producing locally in order to minimize our carbon footprint. What happens to the garment after it’s produced is just as important. By custom milling durable luxury fabrics and creating timeless yet contemporary pieces, Miik is challenging the fast-fashion model of temporary, disposable clothing. “Our goal is to lengthen the time between purchasing the clothing you love, and it’s eventual disposal. It’s that simple.” And when you discover how luxuriously soft our fabric feels against your skin and how versatile our pieces are, you truly will enjoy your Miik pieces for years to come.

Tell us about yourself. Where are you from? How was your life growing up? I am 30 years old. I grew up in a town called Nahariya, the most northern city in Israel right near the border of Lebanon. I was surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea and the beautiful landscape surrounding it. One of my favorite memories was watching the horizon from the shore, where the sky met the ocean. As a child, I was always inspired by people, and I especially wanted to be surrounded by older people than myself. How did you get into the photography world? Was there anyone that inspired you to become a photographer? At the age of 18, I was visiting my older sister in Milan, and she suggested to take me to a photography exhibition by David Lachapelle. I was so amazed by the fact that

Since then I have also become an art director because I love putting all the elements of a set together, from staging, story, and look. I even compile a special music playlist that will help create the environment that I want for that particular set. What

Fernandez We scoured charities, organizations, and agencies to search for individuals that stand out to us. We wanted celebrities or persons that could fulfill our quest for the greater good, people who strive to make the industry better or attempt to bring awareness to certain issues as well as fulfilling that idea of what we call philanthropists. In our search, we found Next Model Manage-ment model, Elena Fernandes. I chatted with Fernandes to hear about her humanitarian projects. Fernandes is half Indian and half Peruvian. She is a law student, actress, and model, who spends most of her time back and forth between the U.S., London or India. The Victoria`s Secret model, who most

To date, she has neutered 160 cats and 30 dogs but acknowledges that there is still a lot of more work to do. She has been working to extend the work of social service group Trap Neuter Return (TPR), which works for the welfare of cats. If taking care of dogs and cats wasn’t enough, Fernandes also cares for those in India who are affected by corneal disease. Since many of those working in India do not have the proper health care, there are those who end up losing their eye site from various working conditions or health issues. So, Elena Fernandes has partnered with Seattle based firm, Sightlife is the only global health organization working relentlessly to eliminate corneal blindness worldwide by 2040. Working with partners in more than 30 countries, SightLife is increasing the number of corneal transplants performed each year to transform millions of lives around the globe. She also travels to schools in Mumbai, speaking to young girls about female empowerment and how education is important. When speaking with Fernandes, she is so emotional about how there is a huge rape culture in Mumbai and how women are treated as 2nd class citizens. She wants these young girls to know they can do more for themselves. “I believe it is a social responsibility all of us should be involved in to make a better India.” Fernandes says: “all it takes is a simple act of kindness, smile, give a stray cat or dog a biscuit, give a homeless person your leftovers, stroke an animal or just say hi as you pass by a stranger.” Please contact Elena directly at elenafernandes@hotmail.co.uk to get details on how you can send donations directly to the veterinarian practice in her group. FLOCK Flock designs beautiful knitwear and thoughtfully produces them from 100% natural fibers. The Flock Philosophy is clear: “we love luxury, but we care about our social and natural environment and don’t believe that one should be at the expense of the other.” Flock was born when co-owner Annie Colley was on maternity leave from her corporate day-job. During this time, when awareness of her well-being was high, she came to truly value quality clothing made of natural fibers. Always too hot or too cold, she found that natural was best at keeping her ‘just right.’ Merino wool, in particular, became a favorite due to its superior ability to regulate body temperature & its super-soft feel.
Annie says: “I spent many hours searching for the perfect merino sweater but found nothing with the style and elegance that I wanted. This inspired me to create my range. I wanted to capture a sense of elegance & luxury but with the honesty and simplicity of natural fibers. In line with our beliefs, we have a clear set of principles on how our clothes are made, including a guarantee that all the wool we use is mulesing-free”. After maternity leave, Annie returned to her corporate job but quickly found her passion lay with developing Flock and balancing that with motherhood. She left the corporate world and now runs Flock alongside caring for her daughter. Flock is about living life on your terms while having a clear philosophy guiding the choices you make. Their clothes are designed with a sense of well-being and ‘slowing down’ in mind; those precious moments of serenity when you are content to just ‘be.’ They are for quality downtime; relaxing at home with friends and family or a rare moment of ‘me-time.’ They are a little daily reward.

With a longstanding love of vintage, Peep enjoys being part of the Slow Fashion movement and encourage longevity of longevity of their pieces by offering a free restoration service with every purchase. This process removes scratches, general wear and restores luster back to the frames. “There’s never been a better time to wear vintage. Each unique piece comes with its slice of history, and all our frames have a story to tell. Mixing the lost designs of yesterday with modern lens technology we celebrate craftsmanship, often handmade, as vintage frames have distinctive design and quality you can struggle to find in the mass produced. From Dior to Cazal, we find luxury eyewear from the 1940s to the 1980s, with many of our pieces wearable works of art.” Peep transform the frames at their workshop in the Leicestershire countryside - from oiling to professional polishing. Frames are fitted with new optical grade lenses offering 100% UVA/UVB protection, adding tints to match with current trends and colors. Peep lenses are given an extra anti glare coating, for enhanced sun protection, as vintage lenses don’t wear well over time and offer enough protection. Images : Jo Skelton

Tarì Rural Design
bags born in Sicily and inspired by the synergy between fashion and agriculture Away from old stereotypes, Sicily 2.0 is appreciated today in the world of international fashion for some of the most innovative brands including Tarì Rural Design. Founded by EzioLauricella and inspired by both tradition and innovation, Tarì Rural Design presents a collection of unique, trendy bags, targeting the young market of under 30 accessories’ lovers. Ezio’s words are filled with passion and tell us the story of the brand identity: ‘As soon as I finished university, I started wondering about the paradoxes of today’s society, the lack of care for the environment and the mass production of goods, killing creativity and cultural identity. I decided to stick to my principles and my heritage, and I got inspired by the beautiful traditions of my land. Sicily is an excellent cradle of culture, arts, and crafts. It is also a land full of contradictions and broken by years of corrupted politicians and criminals; it is an area crying for redemption. Tarì Rural Design is much more than a brand; it is an innovative idea based on the principle of re-birth with trendy fashion designs and eco-sustainable materials.’ Tarì Rural Design has already attracted the attention of the national Italian press and TV, and in 2016 it has been featured in Vogue Italia, along with the most established and worldwide known designers. In Ezio’s collection, the love for his land and the passion for the Sicilian tradition is evident in every design. One of the recycled materials utilized by Tarì Rural Design is the hemp of the bags destined for the harvest of the olives. In the new collection of bags, the company has established a dialogue with some Sicilian farms who have received thousands of hemp sacks for collecting olives. The workers at the end of harvest have returned the bags, then used as materials for the creation of the new Limited Edition handbag collection. Today, in Sicily, for the first time, the “aging” technique takes place naturally and ecologically, ennobled by the Work and the fatigue of Sicilian farmers. The collaboration with some Sicilian farmers celebrates their hard work and allows the brand to produce eco-friendly bags, embracing tradition and innovation. This concept highlights the core principles of the Sicilian people, breaking the pattern of The link to Sicilian traditions is reinforced by the words chosen to identify the brand; ‘Tarì’ is the name of the coin circulating in the Mediterranean area and minted by the official mint of Palermo, throughout the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. The brand logo is the Sicilian Crowned Eagle. The same eagle that was impressed on the ’12 Tarì’ as well as on the Sicilian crest imported by Emperor Federico and featured on the flag of the Sicilian fleet. Mass production and introducing new techniques to create unique designer bags. The names of the bags are a reminder of the historical Sicily and Palermo’s Art Nouveau between the nineteenth and twentieth century. That is when the great Italian architect Ernesto Basile introduced the Liberty style: Alliata, Belmonte, Cavarret, Deliella, Conticello, Varvara, Partanna are only some of the dreamy villas razed to the ground in the 80s by the Mafia to give space to modern housing and real estate speculation. The memory of these glorious villas is celebrated by Tarì Rural Design collection.
Maison Bachet Bachet, the subtle luxury Jewellery brand Maison Bachet is a jewelry brand founded in 2004 by David Bacher, a designer who strives for excellence willing to share his passion for the black diamond associated to the white diamond. From his first experience in a jewelry atelier where he learns the jewelry making techniques followed by gemology studies, David starts creating jewelry lines for famous jewelry brands, until he decides that it is time to found his brand. From the very beginning, the brand is noticed for its refined and contemporary designs; the first creation is the iconic Trilogy ring that represents the past, the present, and the future as if it was predicting the beautiful story to come. Besides a distinctive and elegant style, David advocates a handicraft production, which is the reason why every piece of jewellery comes from Nîmes, in the South of France, where the jewelry atelier is based. Striving for perfection paid off, as the brand is labialized “Joaillerie de France” in 2007 and then becomes Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) member in 2013. Bachet has never stopped rising ever since, not only with unique creations such as the Colozer, a piece of jewelry for both men and women designed to be inserted into a shirt collar but also with a lot of special requests from a high-end clientele wanting excellent tailor-made pieces that have led Bachet to offer a bespoke service in addition to the collections. Wearing a Bachet creation is an emotion. From the sketch to the diamonds set one by one by the hands of highly skilled artisans until the finished product, every piece created is one-of-a-kind and will reflect that emotion forever.

www.ashleychilds.com - ASHLEY CHILDS debuts her “VERTIGO” Collection, 2017
Platinum and 18kt gold, the VERTIGO collection is inspired by the romance of our social fluidity, a delicate balance of the tangible and intangible. Heavy in form, yet elusive in value, the sweeping motion of metal captures the essence of human form and abstract force within time and space. // vertigo |ˈvərtəgō| noun, a sensation of whirling and loss of balance, associated particularly with looking down from a great height, from Latin, ‘whirling,’ from venture ‘to turn.’ Ashley Childs is committed to designing jewelry worthy of graceful transcendence. From a long list of global experiences, an eye for detail, a mind trained in fine, conceptual-art and an intelligence born for engineering, she hopes to change how we think about metal. With extensive experience in bronze casting, clay, goldsmithing, and blacksmithing, her intuition for sculptural movement has always driven her designs. By producing the finest quality jewelry, Ashley Childs hopes her collections reveal a raw vulnerability, capable of enduring each passing decade. Ashley Childs received her Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree from The School of the Art Insitute of Chicago, trained at Alan Revere’s goldsmithing school in San Francisco and completed an intensive Blacksmithing program at Penland in North Carolina. AWESOME NESS
Ashley has also been featured in numerous shows both for her jewelry and art-installations in Prague, Chicago, and San Diego and is part of a collaborative blacksmithing sculptural project in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Ashley Childs is hoping to change the way we see jewelry and metal: “Ultimately, my goal is to bring back the fine-art of high-quality metal, showcasing its dignity in graceful, sophisticated forms. From sculpting clay to forging iron and gold, metal has always been my first love. It is capable of being the tool and becoming the forged form, a poetic dichotomy. In jewelry style, its enduring density becomes part of your life as you move through time and space. It’s practically perfect in humanity’s beautiful and imperfect nature.” More at www.ashleychilds.com

The Fabric Social www.thefabricsocial.com
MINIMALIST AESTHETIC, PREMIUM HAND WOVEN FABRIC, DOPE ORIGIN STORY. The Fabric Social is a clothing brand that works with women facing insecurity in Asia’s forgotten corners. Their core social goal is to lift the burden of poverty from women and their families in insecure geographical areas. By becoming more economically independent, women in these communities can participate more freely in political life and represent their interests in the community. The clothing and accessories are made at a fair price in safe labor conditions by women living in these insecure locations. Not many brands can say that they reinvest 5% of their profits back into community-led initiatives, but The Fabric Social does. The Fabric Social is fashion without borders. “We work with women in geographically insecure locations of Asia, deliberately working with communities that are considered too political, and high-risk investments. Our producers are forging a new wave of economic independence not dependent on charity.” TFS values style over trend, creating collections that are made to wear, to love and that comes with a traceable supply chain that benefits the lives of producers. When feminism and resistance have never been more in vogue – TFS was founded on walking the walk, and we invite our customers to peer behind the label and to wear their feminism on their sleeve. “Currently we work with silk weavers in Assam, India, who live in an ex-rebel stronghold of the underground liberation army. We are training tailors in Mizoram, India, who live in an area that was bombed by the Indian government to quash an independence movement. We work with weavers and tailors in Kannma, Myanmar, who live in the “Dryzone,” an area that has been severely affected by climate change.”

FASHIONREVIEWS GILDA & PEARL LINGERIE https://www.gildapearl.co.uk Instagram - @gildapearl Within the realms of feminine luxury, you’ll be hard pushed to find one greater than the touch of silk on your bare skin. I’ve always felt that investing in quality underwear and nightwear is so valuable - how womanly and confident it makes you feel and the benefits wearing quality fabric is just amazing. Gilda & Pearl are connoisseurs within this remit, and so when I had the chance to do a few of their gorgeous items myself, there was only one sensible answer. As UK manufacturers of underwear, slips, and kimonos, they take pride in injecting creativity, femininity, and beauty into their pieces. From Gilda and Pearl’s collection, I ordered the ‘Hour Before Dawn’ kimono and the ‘Gilda’ camisole. The kimono was honestly one of the most intricately delicately assembled items of clothing I’ve ever seen let alone owned! The hemming and lace detailing on the sleeves are beautiful and meticulous, with subtle gold threads and throughout the feminine floral patterning. What’s more, it hangs so effortlessly off my shoulders and is so light to wear that I almost wanted to wear it out on a Saturday night to show it off! The Gilda cami was something I did wear out on a Saturday night. With silk lined cups, plunging neckline and subtle lacing made it such a diverse piece of clothing which I never wanted to take off. Like the kimono, it the detailing is second to none, and you can tell the amount of time and effort that’s gone into creating it.

Sarah’s Bag is a Lebanese fashion house and social enterprise that creates one-of-a-kind luxury hand crafted bags and accessories that empower both the women who make them and the women who wear them.
Meet our maker
Dynamic, passionate and determined, with an epicurean’s delight in beauty and art, founder, and creative director Sarah Beydoun designs handbags and accessories that are known for their intricate craftsmanship, attention to detail and vibrant, high-spirited appeal. Born and raised in Beirut, Sarah’s unique journey in fashion began during her final year of a graduate degree in sociology, when she was researching Dar Al Amal, an NGO that rehabilitates women at risk and female ex-prisoners. Soon after, she decided to set up a business that would train and employ the women she’d met during her fieldwork. She launched Sarah’s Bag in Beirut in May of 2000, bringing together her love of fashion and design with the mission to empower underprivileged women. Sarah’s exuberant persona shines through each of her designs, and the finished results are hip, luxurious, hand crafted statement pieces that are always fun and playful. In 2014, with the push to expand the label’s international reach, Sarah’s sister Malak, an advertising and fashion publishing professional, joined the company as a partner, bringing with her valuable industry experience to the brand.

Sarah’s Bag handbags combine a colorful and sophisticated aesthetic with luxurious, meticulous craftsmanship. Each collection is both an exploration of new materials and techniques, and a revival and reinterpretation of traditional crafts such as hand beading, embroidery, sequencing, crocheting, and fabric manipulation. Sarah’s Bag is on a mission to keep ancient techniques alive and fresh by using them to interpret modern designs. An artisan can work up to 25 hours on a single piece to bring these designs to life. Sarah’s Bag is always discovering and experimenting with new materials and techniques, whether it’s Perspex and resin to create minimalist masterpiece statement clutches or revamping traditional woodwork techniques such as marquetry and wood and pearl inlay to create unique and glamorous minaudières.
Behind the bags As both a fashion label and social enterprise, Sarah’s Bag works to empower underprivileged women. The signature hand beading and embroidery the bags are known for is meticulously crafted by a team of over 200 women, among whom are female prisoners, ex-prisoners and underprivileged women in Lebanon. Most of the designs are created to showcase their skills. Trained by Sarah’s Bag team, they are skilled artisans in their right, and some have been with the company since it first launched in May of 2000. Once out of prison, Sarah’s Bag encourages its artisans to train other women in their towns and villages, thus creating much-needed jobs in some of the poorer communities in Lebanon.
As a result, these women are soon regarded as valuable members of their communities and their new status helps them to reintegrate into society and ease the stigma of being ex-prisoners. The Sarah’s Bag team of artisans also includes women from underprivileged backgrounds across the Lebanon.

milo+nicki Empowered Women Inspire Change |Ethical Fashion Redefined milo+nicki Debuts First Collection
https://www.milonicki.com milo+nicki is a cruelty-free, ethically-designed womenswear line focused on empowering the ever-evolving woman to conquer her fears, take a leap of faith, never give up on herself, and live a life of color. milo+nicki launched their first collection via Kickstarter on April 18th, 2017. The campaign will help milo+nicki bring the brand to life by supporting their first run of production and launching their online store. Nicki is the founder and creative director, and her partner-in-crime is the handsome, crazy energetic stud Milo (her pup). They are based in Austin, deep in the heart of Texas! An energetic duo that loves hard and cares deeply about people and the planet, their lives have been full of highs and lows (especially in health), evolving bodies, and many life struggles, but they have never skipped a beat on lifting each other up. They want to bring that same happiness, confidence, and authenticity to women all over the world! Through their made in NY, ethically-designed in ATX pieces, they hope to empower women and inspire change. By combining Nicki’s vibrant, Zambian and Indian cultural roots with her passion for sustainability, living cruelty-free, and Milo and her bold personalities, they hope women feel secure, confident, and empowered while tackling all things thrown their way while letting their true colors shine. As women, we feel pressure to play multiple roles may be it be a daughter, mother, sister, employee, spouse, colleague, etc. We’re taught to be competitive rather than supportive, and we’re held to higher standards. With this, we lose ourselves. But we don’t need to. We are strong, beautiful, independent, confident, courageous, loving, and caring. We can do it all. Let’s share it, let’s flaunt it! Why not?! Just like the untold stories we carry, what we wear is something more than a piece of cloth. It has history, meaning, roots, sweat, and tears. The sacrifice in each piece of fabric is an untold story, but with milo+nicki, she hopes to bring these hidden truths to the surface and build awareness that drives the ethical and sustainable fashion movement. Her first collection is inspired by the five rocks in her life: her pup, Milo, her parents, and two older sisters – named and designed with each one in mind. The fit of the pieces are loose, free, easy-care, and easy-wear for all women, and any occasion. The designs and fabric are timeless, classic, and versatile to take you from vacay to every day. The entire six pieces first collection is made of hand-loomed, made-to-order, certified Ahimsa ‘peace’ silk and GOTS certified organic cotton blend from India certified for authenticity, sustainability metrics, and fair trade measures.
READ MORE The process: •fabric is hand-dyed with plantbased indigo in the USA; •fabric has optionally screen printing with non-toxic, no phthalates and formaldehyde free, natural water-based dyes in the USA; •pieces are cut and sewn in the USA; •pieces have original design and embroidery (created by Nicki); •collection is biodegradable (pockets lined with GOTS certified organic cotton, and LR blouse has a hand burnt Corozo nut button from Italy); The fabric is: •extremely strong and durable | can withstand machine washing (but not recommended help our planet out a bit); •thermoregulating | keeps you cool when it’s hot, and keeps you warm when it’s cool; •luxurious with no strings attached (wear it like cotton) | more you wear it, the softer it gets; •cruelty-free | silk worms are never harmed in the process; •biodegradable | leaving zero additions to our environmetal concerns, and pre-existing landfill problems. The packaging is: •100% recyclable or recycled, biodegradable, and environmentally friendly for everything from clothing labels and hangtags, to mailers; milo+nicki believe in designing clothes that last, and are made without compromising people or the planet. They use transparency, cruelty-free, ethical design, and sustainabilityat the core of every piece they create so that not only do you look good, but also feel good. Ready to join their movement? PIXIE MOOD Sprinkle some fairy dust over fashion it-bags, and you get Pixie Mood, the cruelty-free and vegan-friendly accessories brand. Pixie Mood combines fashion-forward trends with sustainable materials to create best-selling bags. The brand is carried at Nordstrom and even offers commercial opportunities for boutiques across the U.S. Pixie Mood uses cork and polyurethane (PU) instead of leather. PU specifically is more durable than other synthetic leathers like vinyl or PVC and therefore has less of an environmental impact by lasting longer. The Toronto-based brand was founded by Kelvin and Chloe Ho. After both working at IBM, the couple decided to pursue their entrepreneur spirit through the fashion world. Chloe is the designer behind the line, with Kelvin heeding the business management front. “The most random things inspire me in design,” Chloe said, “like wallpaper or a book cover. I just take pictures and work from there.” Styles range from totes to cross body to cardholders to passport holders, giving customers the chance to embrace fully sustainable materials in a variety of ways. Each product has a fun twist of pattern or detail, making the style unique. However, all Pixie Mood pieces have one thing in common: a small monkey logo. “The little monkey we use in our branding we use because it’s our favorite animal,” Chloe said. “The monkey is just a fun and playful animal, so it represents our brand.” The couple decided to pursue alternatives to leather goods to draw awareness to animal abuse. “We see clips on Youtube, and it is disgusting how they extract skins off of animals,” Chloe said. “It repels a lot of people, so it’s just logical to go eco-friendly for us.” But what exactly does eco-friendly mean to the Pixie Mood team? “Ethical fashion for us means trying out best to have a positive impact and minimize the negative footprints we have on the environment, animals, workers, and the world in general,” the Pixie Mood founders explained. And how much more magical can that get? Pixie Mood is available online, as well as at Nordstrom and wholesale options. Trend Privé Magazine

Adrielyn: What is the greatest joy about shooting photography? Julie: First of all, it´s the human aspects, such as meeting new people, interactions, and communication. Then creating the images with my expression of light and atmosphere. Meeting new people makes me creative and seeing life from different angles. Good and bad, things just go as they have to. I consider photography and film as my most important expressions in life. It´s important for me to keep photography as

For over half a century Hasselblad cameras have captured some of the world’s most iconic images – including the first landing on the moon – and helped shape the way we look at the world through genuine photographic artistry. Trusted by NASA and used by the greatest photographers in the world, Hasselblad continues to create products with uncompromising image quality that inspire. Adrielyn: Are there any charities that you support? Julie: I´m an active supporter of different international foundations. I love supporting women’s liberty and the empowerment of women in business and artists, specifically in the photography field. I like to challenge some types of men who think they know everything in my work. I can´t help it. Women empowerment, lifting other women up, women rights are my top charities I love to support. Adrielyn: What would you say is your biggest humanitarian efforts you’ve put forth? Julie: I have shared my photographic work and been active working voluntarily for organizations focusing on women empowerment and women’s liberty, like being a part of a panel and contributors in a conference last year. I also did a big commercial video/ stills campaign last winter, collecting funds for people in Nepal needing eye surgery for their vision impairment. All the funds collected went solely to the people in Nepal and it meant a lot to me, especially seeing some of the results afterwards. I think it´s so important to do humanitarian efforts, as well as I like doing beauty, fashion and commercial.

If I have to say a few, it has to start with my two little daughters named Mie and Asta (4 and 7 years old) who makes me very, very happy in life. I´m so happy being a mother! I love being with them and watching them grow up. It´s a gift from heaven being a parent and a mother. Secondly, it´s creating images/ film of my visions and listening to music. I listen to music 24/7 and it´s one of my greatest passions. Thirdly, it´s skateboard! I have started skateboarding again, and I´m totally in love again. Being a street skater for many years during the 90´s it was time to revoke. It makes me happy and stays in shape, street skating is through, but it`s ever too late. If there has to be one word for all, summarizing all my favorites, then it would be its beautiful world of senses. Adrielyn: How do you set yourself apart from other videographers/photographers? Julie I´m dreaming and very happy when I´m shooting, because I´m full of emotions.

DIGDEEP: George McGraw By Samantha Bergeson Philanthropist George McGraw just wants the world without thirst. The founder of DigDeep, the Los Angeles-based organization, works both domestically and abroad to assist communities in building and managing water utilities. Not only does DigDeep provide resources to African nations, but DigDeep is the only global water organization to bring clean running water to impoverished American towns.
It’s shocking to think that even in one of the wealthiest nations a necessity like water is still an issue. Over 1.7 million Americans are without clean or running water, with the epidemic centered in the Southwest, the Dakotas, the deep South, and the border of Mexico. DigDeep finds these communities and provides education on basic plumbing, empowering residents to build and manage low-cost water systems to local schools and homes. All water projects are community-led with an emphasis in teaching to maintain water access. Recently, DigDeep has brought mass media attention to the Navajo Nation water plight following the accidental Environmental Protection Agency spill at the Gold King mine in Colorado, as well as the harmful effects of toxic remains found in many former uranium mining communities throughout the Navajo reservation. Over 40% of Navajo residents do not have clean water or basic plumbing. Due to limited access to running water, many Navajo people are forced to source water from miles away or attempt to drink potentially contaminated water.
Approximately 54,000 Navajo citizens are thought to collect water from unregulated sources, posing a health hazard; more than 10% of 240 unsafe sources have tested positive for traces of uranium and other radioactive particles, according to the EPA. “It is an incredible injustice,” McGraw told NPR on the matter. “If you’re born Navajo, you’re 67 times more likely not to have a tap or a toilet in your house.” McGraw has been published by the New York Times and Huffington Post, as well as profiled by VICE, NPR, and CBSNews. He has also spoken at various TEDx conferences, Ford Motors, and the Clinton Foundation. McGraw did not plan on entering infrastructure; instead, he was determined to go to law school after graduating college.

Mcgraw found his higher caller in a different field with DigDeep. As he puts it, water access is a human right. The organization takes a different approach than most water non-profits; DigDeep rather helps create water systems, with all funds being put towards investments in pump development for underserved communities around the world. With the average American using over 100 gallons of water a day—by far the most in the world—McGraw and DigDeep strive to limit excessive water consumption and instead work towards spreading the water evenly throughout the globe, starting at home with their “4-Liter Challenge” campaign. “DigDeep strives to provide clean water everywhere, one community at a time. George McGraw is changing the way we all think about water. ” Liz Levacy for DigDeep Water
Designers that are helping those
DISPLACED By Adrielyn Christi
Did you know? There are local designers in the United States whose goal is to help immigrant and refugees in settlement areas?
How? By putting these individuals to work and providing them with the knowledge of becoming craft artisans and providing them with fair wages to take charge of their lives.
Who is helping? Jewelry designer, Sharon Herrick has made it her mission to create a daily, positive impact on global communities who are now living in the U.S. She has been a lifelong advocate for social justice, and when her hobby of creating jewelry turned into a business, she felt that after spending years working in various social change efforts (including filmmaking, advocacy for elder justice, and refugee health care), she realized that having an impact on the lives of others could be done in many ways. Illuminated Me combines her love for creating beautiful, meaningful jewelry with her passion for improving her community, its economy, and the lives of its residents.

Illuminated Me believes that the success of a company is measured by its people. Above all else, they remain steadfast in their commitment to ensuring everyone involved in the creation of their jewelry is treated with the respect and dignity they deserve. Each piece is crafted in Portland, Maine, studio by artisans, and they believe that significant changes can be made by small choices. Their pieces carry meaning beyond simple thread and beads. Enlisting more help After meeting Anthony Manfredonia, Luxury Fashion Designer, at Peoples Revolution Showroom in New York City, where Manfre Donia’s collection is represented, she knew he would be perfect to collaborate with. Manfredonia, who has served as design director for designers such as Donna Karan Collection, Tracy Reese, and Isaac Mizrahi Haute Couture. Manfredonia prides himself on creating stand-out, glamorous looks with strict attention to details and construction.
So, with their same vision, they aligned themselves to collaborate in creating a collection that represents mission. Together they are committed to establishing a different way of doing business by strengthening the ties that connect us rather than the lines that divide us.
What is the result of this? Two individuals; a jewelry designer and a clothing designer who have put their creative minds together to help those who are trying to better their lives, by putting them to work and teaching them an artistry and giving a new purpose. If there were just ten more like Anthony and Sharon out there, the world could be a much better place!

Joyce’s Angels
Interview with Football Player and Activist SENECA WALLACE by Joshua Seibert
JS: In honor of your mother Linda Joyce Wallace, your mission is to serve the fight against multiple myeloma through charity work and research. When did you decide to start “Joyce’s Angels”? SW: I decided to start Joycesangels.org in 2012. JS: Your mother Linda passed away, (God Bless her soul), from Multiple Myeloma when you were a young man. How did this impact your life and football career? SW: It impacted significantly, but without the support of my friends and my teammates of the Seattle Seahawks, I wouldn’t have been able to continue to move forward with my NFL career. After her passing, I found the drive to continue to push forward knowing that’s what she wanted me to do with my career. JS: Being an incredible athlete and outstanding leader for the community surrounding you are making all of the difference. What would you say is the most rewarding part about preserving Joyce’s Angels? SW: Being able to provide to the cancer research for Multiple Myeloma and other resources. JS: As a father of two and a loving husband, what is the greatest valuable life lesson you would like your children and the community to get out of the camp? SW: I believe being good students of the game and great teammates on and off the field with great character. JS: What advice do you have for someone dealing with the loss of a family member from cancer? SW: What worked for me, was getting even closer to my loved ones and the family members that my mom touched in her 58 years on this earth. Being able to share and hear those stories, helped me channel my focus on the positive times spent with her. JS: Giving back while inspiring others is obviously a passion of yours. Tell us about the U.S.O. Tour in 2012. Would you like to do this again? SW: Yes, I would do it again and would recommend it to anyone who has the opportunity. Being able to take time out my schedule to listen, see and also support our military men and women is the least I can do. After all, they keep us safe every day.
Trend Prive Magazine Photographer: Frans Loriaux www.fransloriaux.com
JS: During your College years, you transferred to Iowa State where some of your greatest achievements were born. Describe what happened during “The Run.” SW: “The Run” is now an iconic play in history, and I’m glad to be part of that, it was a 15-yard touchdown that totaled me running more than 100 yards to score. JS: This is an exciting year for everyone on and off of the field at the Seahawks, Cleveland, and the Packers. As a Free Agent, what are your expectations out of the new starters? Is there a particular organization you have your eye on this year? SW: The Expectations of the new starters are for them to come and do their job, and fulfill the role to whatever team signs them. My eye will be on the Cowboys, Browns, and the teams with young rookie QBs. Not a fan of the Cowboys or Browns just to be clear. LOL. Humble Sense Of

Topher Brophy and his dog Rosenberg have taken social media by storm. The famous duo, whose most popular postings can be found under the Instagram handle @topherbrophy, do not just feature ordinary photographs of a man and his dog. The images, styled and shot by creative director and photographer Chantal Adair (@thedogstyler), are wildly imaginative and depict Topher and Rosenberg in matching attire and coordinated activities, with inspirational and whimsical themes ranging from celebrating teachers to“The ‘70s”. The photographs are not only amusing but beautifully composed and aesthetically pleasing, highlighting the fact that Topher and Rosenberg bear a striking resemblance to each other. Topher’s social media rise is lighthearted and enjoyable, but also holds a deep backstory that resonates around the globe. Topher and Rosenberg’s origin story began at a challenging period in Topher’s life. “I was in a very dark period about three years ago, during which I experienced an array of feelings and events due to a lack of meaningful relationships and connections, which made me feel, in a sense, numb.” Compensating for what he felt he was missing, Topher spent a tremendous amount of time playing competitive sports; so much so that it turned into an addiction. “It was polo; it was tennis, it was racquetball, it was fencing, weight training…” Topher listed the multiple sports he spent every waking second competing in and training for, but his whole life came to a halt when he injured himself so severely that doctors told him to stop it all. Otherwise, he would need a life-altering surgery. “I was forced to quit immediately. I lost my security blanket, and I began spending a lot more time alone. The May Fair Hotel by Anna Shearer
Do you know what? “After four years of nurturing and growing my blog, I am so proud of myself that I am now able to travel with it. The blogging world is a beautiful place, and I’ve met so many amazing people and seen some amazing places along the way that I am forever grateful for this blog and all it has been able to do for me. With that being said, I was thrilled to be invited to none other than The May Fair Hotel, the official sponsor of London Fashion Week, now for a Fashion Blogger the words ‘London Fashion Week’ make my spine tingle with excitement. The hotel opened in 1927, that’s over 90 years ago! But, incredibly, it’s not one of those fine hotels you see everywhere in London, it has a twist. I had seen The May Fair Hotel on Lydia Millen’s blog, and other similar bloggers- it was always a hotel I’ve wanted to visit in London. Did you know that The May Fair Hotel is also part of the Positive Luxury group? ‘LETS BREAK IT DOWN’ THE HOTEL Instantly when our Uber pulled up, about five doormen rushed over to help with our suitcases and bags as well as open our taxi door, we didn’t have to lift a finger, tick. The concierge area was lovely and welcoming. We even saw a famous footballer player on our way inside the hotel. The front desk was very friendly and informed us that we had been upgraded to a suite. THE ROOM We were upgraded to a junior suite which meant that we had a bigger restroom (with a bath and shower) and a larger room with a sofa and lounge space, so it was perfect. The bathroom and the whole room, in fact, were made of white marble, which is bloggers` paradise, so it was stunning. The shower had a strong running shower head, which made it impossible for me to get out of it because it was so nice. The shower even had a chair in it, in case you needed a rest mid-shower.
breakfast, and off we went to enjoy our day. THE MAY FAIR SPA I heard down the grape vine that The May Fair Spa was a hidden gem. The spa was hidden in the bottom floor tucked away, quietly. It was a small but cozy haven for hotel guests to relax. The spa (although had no pool) consisted of a large shower, sauna, steam room, crushed ice (to cool off after your sauna) and a relaxation room with gorgeous heated beds, where you could sit and read a book and drink herbal tea. The spa was complemented with soft relaxing music and statues of Buddha everywhere. It was like we’d found a secret den away from the busy streets of London, but in the heart of the London, in the borough of Mayfair. BUT WHAT DID I REALLY THINK? I would 100% go back again! The location was FAB. The staff was accommodating and friendly. I felt right at home, in fact, we didn’t want to leave come Monday! The hotel itself is stunning, and there are pieces of artwork dotted around the hotel and quirky statues everywhere, putting it aside from the typical ornate hotels in London. It’s a modernised, historic hotel which really adds a bit of ‘flavour’ to the borough of Mayfair and is definitely somewhere you want to check out while you are in town.

THE BRANDO, ECO LUXURY RESORT IN FRENCH POLYNESIA
The Brando is a paradise, or maybe the Paradise The location is perfect: the Polynesian atoll of Teatiaroa: twelve small islands located to north east of Tahiti and famous for being purchased by Marlon Brando in 1967. Recently awarded “Best Overseas Resort” and “Best Eco Tourism Property” by Luxury Travel Magazine, The Brando is an eco resort that protects tropical fauna. The mission of the resort is in fact to preserve the uncontaminated nature of the atoll. There is an eco-station for scientific research for the protection of the island and the marine habitat; the guests can observe turtles, rays and exotic birds while relaxing on the white beach. There is also a beautiful organic garden where fruit and vegetable plants are grown that will be served directly in the resort’s restaurants. The Brando Resort has 35 villas on the private white sand beaches built in the Polynesian tradition, and it is the first resort that uses particular eco-friendly technology: conditioned air is produced from sea water and energy is exclusively solar. There are two restaurants, the Beachcomber Café and Les Mutinés headed by celebrity chef Guy Martin. Currently, a new restaurant is under construction to offer even more luxurious service. To relax after a bath at sea: The Menu Bar with spectacular views over the lagoon and the informal Bob’s Bar on the beach (dedicated to Bob, Marlon Brando’s factotum on the set of his films). There are many activities including the Cultural Lounge where guests can discover the Polynesian traditional culture and through readings, demonstrations and lectures by scientists telling their research on flora and fauna. Snorkeling gives unique experiences and emotions among coral gardens, colorful tropical fish, and sharks. You can visit all the private islands that surround the lagoon; the infinity pool and the beach are perfect for relaxation, and the luxurious Varua Polynesian Spa offers beauty treatments inspired by ancient Polynesian traditions. Bardessono Hotel Eco-Chic:Bardessono Hotel & Spa brings sustainable luxury to Napa
By Justin M Duren
Napa Valley, an idyllic swath of undulating hills and verdant fields in Northern California, has attracted global travelers for decades. First, as a renowned capital for wine lovers. Then rapidly over the last twenty years, given the rise of Silicon Valley and resulting deluge of disposable income, Napa quickly evolved into a culinary and luxury tourism hotspot. Now in the 21st century, with the thankful increase in environmental advocacy, broadened implementation of many sustainable and eco-friendly practices has occurred throughout the region. It is from these fertile roots and shifting economic and ecological trends that the incomparable Bardessono Hotel & Spa was founded. Having opened in 2009, Bardessono Hotel & Spa burst onto the Napa scene with well-deserved fanfare from both encouraged environmentalists and savvy world travelers. Being designed from the ground-up as a luxury hotel, the eco-friendly hotel had its advantages, and the attention to detail can be seen immediately upon entering the grounds. The resort is a masterpiece of salvaged wood, local Tufa stone, rustic reclaimed metalwork, and stunning landscaping. Each building on the property is designed to blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings, and thoughtfully placed fountains and gardens throughout the resort create a serene tranquility in every courtyard and gathering space. Inside each suite (Bardessono is a suite-only hotel), no expense was spared, no guest need was overlooked. Organic linens and fabrics are used throughout. Every room has a dedicated outdoor space, fireplace, in-room massage table, and whirlpool jacuzzi. Craft sodas and artisan snacks are included too. And the beds must be made of clouds; they are so comfortable and sumptuous. (Ok, we know, they aren’t made of clouds. Must be magic dust then). Take a leisurely stroll through the grounds at night, after another perfect day touring the surrounding Napa countryside, and you will be hard-pressed to think of a more romantic setting, what with the glowing tea-lights, comfy lounge chairs, and sparkling reflection pools. And when you wake up the next morning and step out onto your private patio to stretch your legs, you are treated to fog-filled hillside vistas and the sounds of hot-air balloons rising directly overhead. Bardessono seems to get everything else right, too. Every arriving guest is given a complimentary glass of wine before being escorted personally to their suite by a resort concierge. All guests receive free access to bicycles, a fantastic way to tour the Napa countryside. Bardessono also has a unique partnership with Lexus and maintains a fleet of vehicles for guest usage. The onsite spa is an award-winning oasis of zen, offering bespoke service and personalized care using ultra-luxurious products. Or better yet, take advantage of the in-suite massage facilities, and relax your cares away in the comfort of your room. And no stay at Bardessono is complete without dining at their world-class farm-to-table restaurant “Lucy,” named after the matriarch of the founding Bardessono family. Divine dishes and to-die-for desserts are prepared fresh daily by Executive Chef Nate Lindsay and his polished kitchen team, using locally sourced ingredients and anything that is in season from Lucy’s onsite organic garden. (Tip: try the fried lentils, they are just divine). Guests who are lucky enough to secure dinner at the chef’s table are in for a real treat - private outdoor seating right in the middle of the garden, with personal attention throughout the meal by Chef Lindsay himself. Lucy Restaurant also serves fantastic breakfast, though it’s hard to overlook the complimentary pastries from Thomas Keller’s Bouchon Bakery made available to each guest every morning. Bardessono stands among the most elite Napa resorts based on style, sophistication, and quality alone. But it is the dedication to sustainability and environmental stewardship that truly sets it apart. One of only two LEED platinum certified hotels in the United States, the list of environmental initiatives undertaken by Bardessono is vast, including: • • • • •
Reduce & Reuse: repurposed stone, wood, fabrics, cleaning supplies are used throughout the property. Heating & Cooling: Underground geothermal is used for heating and cooling, and heat-saving materials and glass were used for building construction. Low Water Usage: Low water fixtures are installed, drought-resistant landscaping is utilized, and efficient irrigation and usage of grey water for all watering needs. Energy Conservation: roof-based solar power, motion sensors in each room to reduce energy needs. Indoor Air Quality: All glues, adhesives, finishes, paints, carpets and fabrics are environmentally friendly, and interior fabrics and carpet are green certified.
Ok, so if we are beginning to sound like we are fawning, it’s because we are. Bardessono is the blueprint for what eco-luxury can and should be. Gone are the days of having to sacrifice comfort and class for sustainability and saving the planet. No longer must high quality mean high impact to the environment. In this age of technological progress and ecological awareness, beautiful design and nature’s beauty can co-exist. It seems nowadays you can have your organic cake, and eat it too. Just make sure you leave room for those breakfast pastries. Trend Privé Magazine

Kauai A Fragile Paradise
By Justin M Duren “This island calls to people,” I was told by a local shopkeeper on my first visit to the north shore of Kauai many years ago. “It’s… It’s like a dream”, I happily remarked before departing in a rented red convertible toward another perfect beach, joyously lost in another perfect day with perfect weather on a perfect island. Now to be fair, every island in the Hawaiian Isles feels like a tropical paradise painted by Gauguin. Maui is the island of lovers and little ones. Newly married couples and families of all ages flock to the exquisite beaches, abundant activities and fantastic food to be had under the Maui sun. It is also rapidly becoming the Pacific Ocean playground of the mega-rich, with celebrities such as Owen Wilson and Oprah Winfrey owning stunning properties on the island. Other travelers prefer Oahu, an island so diverse it has something for everyone. Tourists fly in from around the world to indulge in the glitz and glamour of Waikiki Beach, while the world’s best surfers dream of visiting “The North Shore” of Oahu, possibly the most famous surfing spot on this planet. Still, other travelers want to experience the remote and undisturbed beauty of Lanai. Boasting only 30 miles of paved road and not a single traffic light on the entire island, visiting Lanai feels like entering a tropical time machine into the past. But with top notch golf. And world class resorts. Billionaire philanthropist Larry Ellison liked Lanai so much; he purchased 98% of it in 2012. However, for the almost 1.2M annual visitors that arrive by passenger plane and cruise ship, there is no greater paradise on this beautiful earth than the Garden Isle of Kauai. Endless remote beaches blanket the hotter western shore, crystal blue waters crashing against the sand while adventurous campers and delighted day-trippers navigate the rolling dunes and rocky roads. The more temperate south coast is filled with luxurious hotels nestled between fancy homes and even more lavish beaches. Plus the weather is always perfect every day. You can look it up. And the eastern shore of Kauai is an exciting and eclectic mix of shops, restaurants, and outdoor activities; you can grab an early breakfast, surf some waves, kayak to a waterfall, browse a local craft store then catch a shave ice all before noon. But it is in the lush, green jungles of Kauai’s north shore (“Hawaii’s other north shore,” as it is sometimes called), that I first heard the island’s amorous call. Trend Privé Magazine
The north shore is an enchanting setting full of raging waterfalls cascading down majestic mountains, picturesque vistas of taro and trees, and a coastline of beaches and cliffs that seem too good to be true. I’d recommend you start in Kilauea, with its iconic lighthouse and excellent local shops and food stops (Julio’s Burritos is a personal favorite, tell them I sent you...and that I still dream about their to-go bowls). Then continue your ultra-scenic drive north into Princeville, an upscale community of resorts, golf courses, and stunning cliffside coastline. Enjoy sunset at the local lookout near the end of the main road, before turning around and heading further north down into quaint and quirky Hanalei. The closest thing to a town on Kauai’s north shore, Hanalei is a beautiful assortment of local craft shops, restaurants and nightlife, and some of the best people watching on the island. Finish your day here with some local grinds (Hawaiian slang for food) before retiring early as all locals do. That way you can get to sleep early and get some much-needed rest before the inevitable rooster call outside your window wakes you up at dawn. Or even earlier. See, roosters are everywhere on the island due to an unfortunate battle between a huge chicken coop and an even larger hurricane a few decades ago. The chicken coop lost, and the island has been humorously taken over by foul ever since. So expect to see many other early risers too as you return to Hanalei for a quick breakfast in the morning before continuing down the road to any number of fabulous beaches for the day. Tunnels and Ke’e are my personal favorites for both the snorkeling and the scenery. And any visit to this side of the island isn’t complete without seeing the awe inspiring Napali Coast. Whether experiencing it up close and personal while hiking the famous Kalalau trail, or taking in the view from afar on the bow of a chartered catamaran, seeing this coastline for the first time is breathtaking. Same for the second and third and fourth times, too. So it’s easy to see why Kauai and its lesser known north shore is an attractive destination. But like many island nations, Hawaii has a long and contentious history of visitors from other lands. By any measure, Hawaii today is a very peaceful, tranquil, and safe region to visit. However much violence and hardship have occurred over the centuries as ships from east and west discovered this Pacific gem. To this day, many locals on the island still campaign for indigenous rights. While it is nearly impossible to succinctly and adequately give voice to all the complexities of the current political and territorial debates in Hawaii today, one glaring challenge that becomes immediately apparent to any visitor is the growing deleterious effects of tourism and economic expansion. This impact is especially noticeable on Kauai’s north shore, as an example after example of ecological problems mount. Coral reefs once colored with every shade of the rainbow have become fields of white and brown. Beaches that were once immaculate as recently as the last decade now frequently have a litter and other signs of human neglect. Signs must now be placed in accessible locations imploring visitors to respect local animals. Less impactful agriculture techniques and a focus on local fruits and vegetables have given way to a more capitalist approach to maximizing production and chasing current produce trends. The list goes on. This is a sad cycle repeatedly seen in many popular tourist locations worldwide. A remote, pristine area becomes more and more popular. Hotels and houses and buildings and businesses sprout up. Foreign money floods in, and domestic interests and equilibriums become conflicted with the human nature to accumulate wealth and expand. Environmental and cultural impacts increase. Wash, rinse, and repeat. And there are no simple answers, especially given that the need for exploring, for travel, for experiencing new cultures and new places, is vital to the human experience. Something to be cherished and celebrated. But there are many steps each of us can take to help repair past damage and improve the chances for a better tomorrow. I’m particularly fond of the “Leave No Trace” principles: 1. Plan ahead and prepare - Do some research before you travel. Learn local customs, traditions, and challenges. Know how you can help before you even arrive. 2. Travel and camp in appropriate locations - Use existing roads and trails. Good campsites are found, not made. 3. Dispose of waste properly - There are three types of people in this world. Those who throw trash on the ground, those who walk over trash on the field...and those who pick it up. 4. Leave what you find - There is a Hawaiian legend that says bad luck comes to any travelers who take back coral or seashells from the islands. No need to test the theory. That small profit from a shell necklace, or interesting memento to place on your desk, just isn’t worth it. Ever. 5. Minimize impacts - Take an hour or a day to volunteer for a local beach clean-up effort. Donate to an environmental group. Pack a few unused goods and clothes in your luggage and drop-off at a school or shelter. No gesture is too small. 6. Respect wildlife and vegetation - Plain and simple. 7. Be considerate of other visitors - and show people how much you care. When other tourists look at you strangely for picking up trash on the sidewalk, don’t be shy to explain what you are doing and why. If you see some kids walking on a coral reef, politely explain to them the damage and impact they may cause. Sure, not everyone will heed the advice or follow your lead, but if you influence even one person in your lifetime to be a better traveler you have made a world of difference. The north shore of Kauai is a priceless gift, one that should be shared and experienced; a gift that must be taken care of, nurtured, respected and revered. Few places on this earth are as precious, as vibrant, or as ecologically diverse. And we have the power to affect positive change, to make a difference, to save this emerald jewel for generations to come. The island of Kauai calls to us asking for our protection. Please answer the call. Trend Privé Magazine

It’s a desert wellness, and yoga retreat inspired by the ancient tribes of the country held deep in nature, designed to help participants to disconnect and reconnect. The idea of Restival is to be at one with off-grid nature and tradition, to move away from being governed by fast-paced, city-centric lives. We encourage guests to explore and unwind in beautifully clean, unspoiled and stimulating environments and find new perspective and energy from the ground in unusual places, whether in the heat of the Painted and Sahara Deserts or crispness of northernmost Swedish Lapland. Above all else, embrace a rare opportunity to reimagine the world from a fresh and fascinating perspective. No longer do we have to get high to get happy. Restival has provided a playground that helps you recalibrate, distress and find joy. CORE VALUES & VISION Restival is a new movement helping you to discover the value of slowness. Restival because it’s so special. Like happiness, calmness, good health, success, becoming part of the Restival movement is something you own and something unique. It’s a feeling, and we’d love you to feel it. HISTORY Restival began as an experiment for a solo vacationer that wasn’t centered around overStuffed travel schedule, hedonism and being part of a couple of a group. A vast growing interest in anthropological spirituality and powerful communities also influenced the development of Restival. What came to be, after months of research, site visits, meetings and preparations with people globally – large quantities of time spent with indigenous people learning from their traditions and livelihoods - is an independent, boutique retreat that is truly a one-off. We’ve curated experiences in untouched spaces, where you won’t struggle to unplug and recharge. We focus on lands with fewer footprints in the sand, where you might come away with new stories, friends and an overall restored bodily and mental energy and outlook on life, amidst the beauty of quiet but dramatic landscapes. We also place Restival alongside unusual world-famous landmarks and artwork like the Roden Crater for both a historical and contemporary richly cultural adventure. The inaugural event - Restival Sahara - took place in Morocco in November 2015. Curated workshops included creative writing, body art, yoga, meditation, life coaching, and incredible gong baths - the sound of the gong resonating across miles of the Sahara was an actual life enhancing moment for many.

Restival Arizona followed in September 2016, where an international array of individuals from all walks of life, gathered for five special days in the Painted Desert for a life-changing vitalisation of self-discovery. Guests could sweat in the sweat lodges; sing and dance at the cacao ceremonies, while the cosmos became their compass with astrology lessons from an eminent Navajo astrologer. THE LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE Restival is not a digital detox that will be undone within two days of returning home. The idea is to help people to connect with the core human capabilities that make us truly happy, successful, complex, healthy beings and discover a hidden world. The days spent on our wellness retreats are fun and relaxing. Arrive at Restival with an open mind and take in the surroundings. It’s true that you’ll make some self-discoveries, but you will also be pampered. Between delicious organic meals, spa treatments and deep sleep on cotton sheets in comfortable accommodation (think tipis and bell tents), you’ll receive one-on-one meditative guidance from practitioners who apply centuries old philosophies to help you reset and recharge. However far up or down the spiritual spectrum, you feel on arrival, the outcome is to extract what you need from the experiences. Restival is about connectedness; it doesn’t matter how old you are, your religion, what country you’re from. Divisions are lowered at Restival, and people come together like a family it’s what they called themselves at the end of the trip. People let their guard down, open up, reflect, spend time alone, spend time with others. There’s no agenda at Restival. That’s why it’s so good for the solo traveler because there’s always someone to talk to or you can be alone if you wish. The Restival experience would not be complete without the chance to unwind and reconnect with yoga, meditation, gong baths, wellness treatments, beauty therapies, writing workshops, art, unique clothing collections and pop-up shops. A typical day on camp looks like this:
The Art of Relationships with Anne Lloyd resonated with many people, all so hungry to hear about how to maintain a healthy relationship, or how to meet someone but don’t know where to go. Boris Hoppek created a piece of surreal art along the dune, made from bright blue fabric standing inside it enabled a feeling of oneness. Everyone ended Restival with a sunrise Rave on the last day with Morning Gloryville, watching the sun come up over a Camel’s head dancing to Sancho Panza – it was quite something.
7:00AM Yoga / Meditation / Gong Sound Bath. 8:30AM Breakfast. 9:30AM Workshops. 12:30PM Lunch. 2:00PM Workshops / Meditation / Wellness activities. 5:00PM Sunset Yoga/ Gong Sound Bath. 7:15PM Dinner. 8:45PM Campfire stories / Astronomy. 10:00PM Music, singing and dancing.
MEET THE FOUNDER - CAROLINE JONES Caroline Jones, Restival’s founder, has worked in events for 25 years. From the heady days of the Shepherds Bush Empire during Brit Pop to the Cinema Fumee – long before the days of the Secret Cinema, Caroline has an unstoppable creative spirit that she’s now channeling into Restival. To counter the hard work and running her agency, she learned to meditate. A few years ago, she was living in two worlds – the “looking inward” – attending retreats, and the “outward” – working at Restivals. She happened to be sitting on the London tube one day, reflecting upon her fatigue, feeling overloaded with the constant pressure to answer emails, check social media and keep ahead of the innovations. In a moment of clarity, she looked up and saw that everyone else was doing the same. No-one looked up, no-one smiled or made eye contact. It was as if she was on a tube filled with people who were asleep. She wanted to say “Wake up, you’re missing it!” It occurred to her that there wasn’t a middle ground or retreats or festivals. Somewhere off the grid, for people to go and do nothing, switch off, recalibrate, reconnect with yourself and others, to practice yoga and attend workshops and dance in the evening to the beat of the
drum and the sound of people singing around a campfire without loud, amplified music, with your shoes off, with a free spirit without hedonism. A place where you the solo traveler could comfortably meet other people from diverse cultures, far away from everything – no advertising, roads, airplane trails, no noise. Somewhere silent where couldn’t see anything for miles. The earth that hadn’t been touched by energy – an electrical cable or a road. Somewhere like the desert. And so Restival was born - the first event taking place in the Sahara, in November 2015, followed by Restival Arizona in September 2016. “Technology isn’t supposed to isolate us, it wasn’t designed to do that, but it does. It’s about being in the moment with another person. The local tribes that we meet on our travels do just that – they connect. Hey, communicate the old fashioned way, the way we humans were meant to. It means we could care for one another more, be there for them, listen and engage with each other at Restival. That’s hard to do on a text don’t you think?” Caroline Jones.
Restival supports indigenous communities through dedicated education and inclusivity, trade, and sponsorship of local schools. “It’s our primary aim that we connect with others, help marginalized cultures, learn from them and use the lessons to reflect and change your life for the better. “ The cyclical reconnection of Restival is simple, spiritual, and entirely accessible to even the most skeptical of newcomers. Restival Arizona is honored to work with the Navajo together with Kate and Mark Sorensen, founders of the STAR School (Service To All Relations). The STAR School was established to educate Navajo children and to teach Navajo traditions, cultures, technology and the arts. It is the first off-the-grid, a solar and wind-powered school in the United States. LOCATIONS & DATES RESTIVAL ARIZONA 2017 - September (dates TBC) - The camp is approximately 20 minutes outside of Flagstaff. The nearest airports are Flagstaff, Phoenix, and Las Vegas. There is a team of experts on hand to ensure that you’re held in the comfort of Restival throughout your entire trip.
