Raise your hand if the thought of interviewing real estate icons on camera simultaneously frightens the bejesus out of you — and invigorates you to that ‘runner’s high’ level of happiness.
I had the immense pleasure of sitting down and casually chatting with Keller Williams’ Susan Hubek and Jan Richey in the beautiful, high tech recording studios at Supreme Lending’s American Dream Team’s office.
[I can’t thank them enough for their generosity in allowing us to use their fancy schmancy new studio for this taping.]
However, any fears I had were quickly dashed with these two, who are lonnnnnng time friends, and are as down-to-earth, funny, and thoughtful as can be. They have fun-filled stories for days! There was lots of laughter and some eye rolling as they traipsed down memory lane talking about the really early days of Keller Williams in North Texas.
Anyone who knows me knows I can chat with the best of ‘em. But put that video camera in front of me and suddenly words escape me, any preparation I practiced is out the window, and I’m fighting off the ‘deer in the headlights’ look of fear.
These Keller Williams pioneers have trained thousands and developed amazingly accurate systems that have served them well over the years to quickly spot the next rising star REALTOR ® .
I asked, ‘If you knew then what you know now what would you tell some one just getting started in real estate? And, what are some traits or characteristics you see in rookie REALTORS who go on to make it big time?’
Look for our video soon, but here are a few fun take-a-ways:
• In 1994, while Susan was at an MLS meeting, it was announced that Mike Brodie left RE/MAX to start KW in Dallas. Mike wanted Susan as a Team Leader, but Susan said she couldn’t leave the office where she was working to turn it around. Although Susan knew she HAD to at least check out KW. The rest is history! In November 1994, after 14 years of sales, Susan became a Team Leader for the first KW office in the North Texas region.
• Jan entered the real estate industry in 1983. Prior to real estate, Jan was a corporate jet pilot and flew a Lear 25 for a Houston oil firm!
Susan and Jan - let’s get the whole gang together for more stories! I’ll bring the Fireball whiskey!
