I am 66 years old and inherited a piece of land from my deceased parents 5 years ago. I am about to sell it for a figure which is lower than the tax assessed value from the court house. Do I have to pay any Federal or state tax on the sale of this inherited land?

This is a great question that Real Estate Attorneys get all the time. The answer however is not gratifying at all, because it is you need to another professional. This is a tax question and although the attorney may know the answer or have a general idea they will not normally be able to answer (unless they are a tax attorney or CPA). You should talk to a CPA and they can either help lessen the tax impact or at least tell you what it will be under current guide lines.
