The Knockrow House is situated on the coastal escarpment where magnificent views of the coastal plain and ocean are obtained.However the location also has the constraint of exposure to strong winds. The design solution was to have a linear floor plan so that all rooms captured the ocean views but also had access to sheltered north facing courtyards. The house is transparent in that the glazing allows views through the house from the courtyards to the ocean. The house includes a cellar, home office and glass house. A horizon edge pool is incorporated in the terrace overlooking the ocean. The house is constructed with walls of precast concrete panels and includes basalt stone walls, cedar ceilings and blackbutt floors. Extensive use of natural stone for benchtops and tiles is made in the interiors. Our clients love the house and would not change a thing.
