BILL WARE GOLFS 162 HOLES TO RAISE AWARENESS AND FUNDS FOR A POST 9/11 MEMORIAL On “D-Day”, Tuesday June 6th, Bill Ware (80 years old) completed 162 holes of golf at Capital Canyon Club. He started at 5 A.M. and finished at approximately 7:30 P.M. Each round took him about an hour and a half to complete. The most astonishing fact is that his average score for these nine rounds of golf was actually less than his age! He took on this golf marathon to raise awareness and funds for the building of a Post 9/11 War Memorial being coordinated by the volunteers with Welcome Home Troops. The memorial is being designed by the architectural firm that Bill founded with partner, Bill Malcomb in 1972. Today, Ware Malcomb is led by C.E.O. Lawrence R. Armstrong (architect/artist), who is designing the memorial. It will be a mobile installation that will travel from city to city. The structure’s interior diameter is 30 feet and has a circumference of approximately 100 feet. It is clad in hundreds of glass panes attached to a stainless steel frame and will be able to be easily taken down, moved, and re-constructed in multiple locations. Bill completed this same golf marathon in 2011 when he raised $35,000 for Veterans Airlift Command, an organization that provides free air transportation to wounded veterans and their families for medical and other compassionate purposes.
