Seven Tips for Managing Pet Stress During the Home Sale By Sigrid Ekrut Our furry friends (family) are often overlooked when it comes to the stressful events that surround putting a home on the market for sale, showings and moving. Having strange people in the home, moving pet beds, water and food bowls and contending with packing and your stress can also cause stress for your animals. If you have pets and are thinking of selling your home, here are some tips on keeping your Pets, Buyers and Agents out of harm’s way. 1. Make sure your agent makes it clear on the MLS Showing instructions that you have pets and what kind. 2. Tape Cards with note regarding your pets at the front door, back door, garage door and any door that leads to the outside. 3. Make sure you pick up your pets toys and place in a box where agents and buyers can see that they should be on the lookout for your cats or small dogs. Place water bowls and toy box out of traffic pattern so that no one will trip on them. 4. If you normally crate your pets, place a “No petting Please” sign on the crate. 5. If you have cats, leave a note at doors and by “Sign in Sheet” to watch out not to let them out, and “Do not Touch” the kitties (children sometime look for cats under the bed, and want to touch or handle them).
