Hello, I’m often asked, “just what IS the MCBIA and what do you do?” At the Marion County Building Industry Association (MCBIA) we promote, represent, and defend the interests of the consumer and the local building industry. MCBIA’s team stands guard and fights to keep housing affordable. Over the past few years, we have secured some major concessions related to government regulation and oversight potentially saving consumers hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars in lost time and fees. HERE ARE A FEW OF THE HIGHLIGHTS:
SEPTIC TANKS: Homeowners are being required to upgrade septic tanks even though current law has been challenged in court. MCBIA believes that law should be settled before requiring onerous and costly regulation on homeowners and we are taking active steps to insure when this should be required. Monthly Builders’ roundtable meetings with the Building Dept. to help facilitate a smooth working relationship between trades people and the county.

PERMIT EXEMPTIONS: Homeowners are free to perform any repairs to their home with no permits or inspections required. Homeowners may hire licensed contractors to perform work on their property with no permits or fees required if the cost of the project is under $2,500.00. When the cost exceeds $2,500.00 the contractor is required to file a notice of commencement and the homeowner must sign an affidavit stating the work that is to be performed and provide a copy of the signed contract. Go to our website MCBIA.org for a full explanation on how this change will save you, the homeowner, money on your future projects.
