Candice Wiener TALK about women who wow! Las Vegas boasts a plethora of incredible and talented women who continue to wow all year long with all that they do and give to and for our community on an everyday basis. Mayor Carolyn Goodman is a perfect exemplary public figure who exudes this in both her personal and professional life. No matter the challenges we face in business and our personal lives, it’s been said that life is about 10% of what happens to us and about 90% of how we react.
The women you will find within these pages are mothers, business owners, public figures, aunts,
sisters, wives and much more.
To us they are the glue of our community that binds is all together. Many of these
notable women have been subjected to some difficult situations and have come out on top time and time again! We are extremely blessed to know them and honored to be including them in the 2019 Women Who Wow special feature section of Real Vegas magazine! Please take some time to follow them in their everyday lives on social media. I know there’s not a day that goes by in which I don’t see one of their inspirational posts that help keep me motivated and remain strong no matter what challenges present themselves in my personal and professional life. Women are mainly nurturers and givers by nature. I’ve personally had the honor of being raised here in Las Vegas by one of the most virtuous women I know, Marsha Wiener. As a mother of 8 children (not including those she’s mothered and didn’t give birth to), she taught me a steadfast knowledge of right and wrong. And while growing up, I would see mothers who would enable their children even when they didn’t always do the right thing; my mother refused to allow me to settle for anything less than what was ethical, honest and good. If I was in the wrong, she would tell me so that I could in turn take accountability and learn from my mistakes. To me, the definition of a good mother was one her taught her children to always do the right thing, even when no one was looking. I am very thankful to my mother and my late grandmother, Blondina Decker for their virtuous nature and wisdom beyond their years. As you look through the 2019 Women Who Wow pages in this issue, please take some time to think about the women who have helped you and been a women who wows in your personal life and please, please, make it a point to let them know how much they have impacted your life for the better! As women, it’s imperative that we all lift each other up and support one another. Edification of other women and local women owned businesses is important to our community and the city we so love to live in! Please join us for one of our upcoming Social Saturday pop-up events at the beautiful Tivoli Village, every Saturday, 9am-3pm and for our Vegas Resource event at Tivoli Village the last Thursday evening of every month from 6pm-9pm. We look forward to seeing you at an upcoming event! Please follow us on social media: @realvegasmagazine for updates and information! And thank you for your support and for reading Real Vegas magazine!

We are extremely grateful to be honoring each and every one of these magnificent leading women and showcasing them in this special feature Women who Wow issue in Real Vegas magazine! As strong minded and entrepreneurial women who continually support our community, the women within these pages and “the list” for the 2019 Women Who Wow issue are simply amazing! All of them have faced challenging situations both professionally and in their career and the fact remains the same: it’s throughout these challenging times that the women who wow remain steadfast in the face of adversity and overcome, and that’s just one of the tools, perseverance that makes them winners and sets them apart. These women have done above and beyond just that! They have risen to the occasion and come out on top and many have had some very difficult tribulations to overcome. From abuse both at home and/or in the workplace, to having been undermined by misogynistic leaders throughout their careers and many more terrible and traumatic scenarios some of these women have faced; these ladies are truly the cream that always rises to the top! Please take some time to find and follow them and their local businesses online and on social media. We are honored to present the 2019 Women Who Wow issue!

NEW YEAR, NEW YOU IS SUCH BULLSH*T. Nothing magical happens from 11:59pm on December 31st to 12:01 am January 1st. In fact, for most of us the only magical thing that happens to us is that we’re able to get up before noon after a night of over indulgent debauchery. We make pacts with ourselves, that tomorrow we’ll start eating healthy, hitting the gym every day, be more active, be kinder to ourselves, stick to a commitment…. THIS TIME! It’s time to make S.M.A.R.T Resolutions! It’s nothing NEW, we’re not NEW. We wake up in the same body on January 1 as we put through hours, weeks,

ENTERING a fresh new year, many Southern Nevadans look for new opportunities to support their favorite community nonprofits, including The Smith Center for the Performing Arts. For some community members, giving cash donations isn’t always feasible, however, especially after the expenses of the holidays. Fortunately, cash contributions are far from the only option to get involved with local nonprofits on a deeper level. Below are just a few alternatives to giving cash donations that Southern Nevadans might find the perfect fit for them in 2019.

Many people prefer planned giving for its flexibility, allowing them to tailor giving to their financial needs. Plus, planned giving not only supports nonprofits — it can benefit donors, too. Some forms of planned giving, such as a charitable remainder trust and a charitable gift annuity, can both provide revenue to a deserving nonprofit, while also making income for the donor. If any of these options sound appealing, it’s a great idea to connect with a legal representative to determine what form of planned giving option is the best fit. New York. 1821. America’s first black theater company, the African Company, presents classic plays at a theater in downtown Manhattan for both black and white audiences. But they are challenged when they dare to put on Shakespeare’s Richard III at the same time as the powerful and popular Park Theatre. Carlyle Brown’s humorous and touching play, based on real-life events, dares to ask the question: Does Shakespeare belong to everyone?
On the morning of her arranged wedding, a young bride is visited by the former love of her life. Old passions of love and hate are rekindled when the two lovers escape together. Can their fervent ardor overcome the strictures of Catholic Spanish society? Through the lyrically haunting landscape of poet Federico García Lorca’s moon-soaked imagination, we see the penalties and the pleasures of rebelling against the status quo.
Based on the blockbuster movie starring Reese Witherspoon, this fabulously fun musical adaptation follows the adventures of West Coast sorority girl, Elle Woods. When her boyfriend dumps her to attend Harvard Law, Elle determines to win back his heart at any cost. How far will she go? Will she have to transform herself or will she hold on to her authentic Elle self? One thing’s for sure: Harvard Law will never be the same.

On the Ice with
MARC ANDRÉ FLEURY
\
B y : C a s s i e Yo u s s e f Being their anchor for two Stanley Cup Championships and three Stanley Cup final appearances; Fleury was selected by our favorite Vegas Golden Knights in the 2017 NHL expansion draft, after coming from a 14 year streak with the Pittsburgh Penguins, and it was the best decision for our Knights. Nicknamed Flower (the French word for flower is fleur) Fleury during the 82 regular season games led our VGK team to extraordinary success during their debut season. Throughout the season, Marc Andre Fleury proved that he was an imperative part of the VGK by leading the team to the Stanley Cup Finals. Throughout the season, Fleury also went on to winning the inaugural Save Streak competition during the NHL All-Star Weekend and later winning his 400th career win against the Philadelphia Flyers. Sweeping the Kings during the first round of the 2018 Stanley Cup playoffs, Fleury continued to lead the Knights to victory throughout the playoffs and to the Stanley Cup Finals where we succumbed to the Washington Capitals. Despite the loss, fans continued to support Flower in the 20182019 season where Fleury resigned a three year contract with the Knights and VGK fans couldn’t be more thrilled to have flower power for the next three years.
Vegas Insider:
Vegas Golden Knights
Fleury’s smile and attitude has been contagious throughout the community with not only the fans of the Vegas Golden Knights, but teammates, GM’s, opponents, coaches and fans of the NHL, because of his continuous spread of positivity and good vibes. Throughout the two seasons, he’s been seen tickling Blake Wheeler’s ear (of the Winnipeg Jets) during a scuffle between teammates happening behind the VGK net and when asked why he responded by saying he didn’t want to be left out. During the current season, Marc Andre Fleury made headlines again, when he packed snow in front of his goal to protect the puck from going in during an open net shot against once again, the Winnipeg Jets. Although he didn’t get away with this clever trick, it made everyone watching the game laugh. During an interview with thehockeynews.com when Fleury was asked why everyone loves him so much, his “reaction is predictable: he laughs. He blushes. He downplays it.” “It’s very flattering,” he said. “It’s not something I try to do or force. I go to the rink, I love what I do, and I have a lot of great teammates and have made a lot of good friends throughout the years. I always cared about our team, our organization, and always wanted everyone to like it.” Besides his infectious smile and positive attitude, we are excited to see where Marc Andre Fleury can take the Vegas Golden Knights throughout their seasons, and where else his career can excel. Flower Power all the way.

She also believes that you can always achieve goals when you train in methods that are specific to the time you have, body shape, traditional and progressive methods you enjoy and isolation or compound exercises that ties this all in together. It is her aim to get people to enjoy training and eliminate the guilt most feel from not being able to do what they see in fitness models and athletes. She feels as though a part of her job now is to manage realistic expectations of what a client can achieve with the limited time they have and to stop them from feeling like they are letting themselves down. Health, fitness and feeling fantastic by accomplishing small goals has to be recognized. “I’m here to help and getting someone happier and healthier is an extremely powerful phenomenon.” Sarah’s qualifications are, a BSC Honours Degree in Sports Studies, Global Bridging Functional Anatomy, Sport Specific Strength and Conditioning, Spin, TRX, Circuit training and much more so be sure to check out Sarah Dorman and David Barton Gym at Tivoli Village Las Vegas!

RUNNING my event business occupies about 95% of my world, so I take full advantage of free time when life affords it by eating my way around our fabulous city. However let’s just say that I may intentionally plan meetings, or “eatings”, around lunch or dinner just for the sake of deleting the restaurants lingering in my Yelp bookmarks. So I digress, let’s be real, I’m eating 100% of the time whether I’m busy or not. With that said I feel it would be a great injustice not to share my vast cornucopia of dining experience with you, because it just might lead you to discover something exciting and new or could even save you some hard earned cash that would be better spent elsewhere. Either way it would be my absolute pleasure to be your guiding dining light!

I was honored to have received the message from Real Vegas magazine requesting my services for their #RealVegasStrong, Oct. 1 tribute event. I was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. Last year, October 1, I was in Fire Camp in Northern California. That night while I was asleep, my brother woke me up frantically, telling me to wake up, “Wake up Josh! Las Vegas is under attack!” I immediately jumped up out of my sleeping bag and followed him outside to watch all of the news footage on his cell phone. My heart dropped. I felt helpless; my family was home in Las Vegas. Everyone in Camp kept telling me not to leave, that there was, “Nothing you can do.” Despite their pleas for me to stay, I was on the next plane home. Editing the #RealVegasStrong Oct. 1 video I shot was both emotionally draining yet a beautiful evening of remembrance, especially the candlelight vigil and the crosses segment. I am a father of 3 beautiful children, 2 boys and one girl, my family is everything to me, I have been a videographer for about 2 years now and absolutely love what I do. I love to help clients engage with their audience and build their brand with fresh, customized video content. I help develop content that is eyecatching, motivating, and unique to their brand. Whether they need video content for communication, marketing, training, education, or entertainment, I offer the professionalism, creativity, and technical know-how to get the job done. I provide cost-effective solutions that result in the highend video products that my clients expect. From consultation and concept design, to production management, to shooting, to editing, I am ready to meet my client’s needs.
