THANK you
our local experts
During the shut-down, we partnered up with local restaurants like Paymon’s Mediterranean Restaurant to feed families FREE every week and we’d especially like to thank Paymon Raouf & Jeff Ecker for helping us provide and give back to our local community. Your kind gestures didn’t go unnoticed in our communities’ time of need. Another special thank you to Harris & Harris Injury Lawyers, Rachel’s Kitchen, Hash House A Go-Go and the Defenders for their assistance in helping our Las Vegas locals with good deeds and support for those in need. Many local businesses did incredible things and we enjoyed the displays of genuine care and concern for our Las Vegas locals. While some do it simply for the recognition and publicity, we know that your actions were simply to serve. THANK YOU all and we hope you enjoy reading Real Vegas as much as we enjoy putting it all together!

Do your legs feel tired a lot?

SUMMER ISSUE 2020 • REALVEGASMAGAZINE.COM
By: Dr. Ralph Carullo
Photos by Michael Rogers Photography
Leg fatigue can be normal, especially if you’re very active. However, if you find that your legs feel tired more often or more quickly than usual, it could be a sign of underlying venous disease, even if you cannot see visible varicose veins, spider veins, or leg swelling (lymphedema). If Your Legs Feel Tired, It Could Be Venous Disease If it’s leg day at the gym and your legs feel tired afterward, that’s completely normal. However, if you’re active and notice your legs feel tired, achy, or heavy after very little exertion, you definitely want to schedule an appointment at Carullo Vein Center of Las
Why Your Legs Feel Tired with Venous Disease Leg fatigue, pain, and heaviness are common with venous disease such as varicose veins. With varicose veins, the veins and valves within them are weakened. This creates difficulties with blood circulation back up to the heart. As the veins struggle, blood pools in the affected vein. This causes bulging, heaviness, and soreness. Varicose veins are sometimes visible but not always, as the deep vein may be affected. Invisible symptoms such as leg fatigue may be present, but visible symptoms like spider veins can also give clues about underlying varicose veins. How Varicose Veins Affect Overall Health Varicose veins are more than bulging veins that make your legs feel tired, and it can affect other aspects of your life like playing sports, working out, going for a walk, but varicose veins and the discomfort that come with them can negatively affect endurance. This is very common among my active patients. Varicose veins can get in the way of your game, keeping you from the activities you enjoy the most. Visible veins also have an impact on confidence. Many patients who come see me tell me, “I just want to be able to wear shorts again.” Confidence to show off your legs while also feeling comfortable during the summer months are both very important for your well-being. How I Help Patients Venous disease requires a multi-faceted approach. At Carullo Vein Center of Las Vegas, we screen every patient to determine the extent of their venous disease. With this knowledge in hand, I create a treatment plan, which includes lifestyle changes and non-surgical, minimally invasive in-office treatments. Lifestyle Changes I encourage all of my patients to: • exercise regularly • maintain a healthy weight • avoid high-heels and restrictive clothing • wear compression hosiery • practice leg elevation every day To the surprise of many patients, these lifestyle changes improve symptoms and quality of life to a large degree. Walk in and out Treatments with Little-to-No Downtime We offer many non-surgical, minimally invasive procedures to treat and remove varicose veins, spider veins, and leg swelling/lymphedema. With many advances in technology just in the last 20 years, you have options, helping you avoid the vein stripping procedures your parents and grandparents told you about. Our procedures include methods such as: • Endovenous thermal ablation, catheter-based radiofrequency (RF) or laser energy (EVLT) is used close the vein • Venaseal medical grade glue is injected in the varicose vein to seal the refluxing vein • Varithena the varicosed vein is closed with ultrasound guided foam sclerosant • sclerotherapy, a sclerosing agent is injected to painlessly irritate and close spider veins • Cutaneous laser for difficult to treat spider veins on the legs All of the above treatments are performed in our office under local anesthesia. Oral sedatives may be used to help you remain at ease during the procedure. General anesthesia is not required, nor is a costly surgical suite or hospital stay.
Choosing a Vein Specialist Traditionally, the treatment of varicose veins meant a surgical procedure. However, with the introduction of portable office-based ultrasound technology and endovenous vein ablation techniques (treating the vein from the
19
inside with a catheter), things have changed. The surgical scalpel and vein stripping have been replaced with minimally invasive procedures, done under local anesthesia, moving the procedures from the operating room to the office setting. Dr. Ralph Carullo is a diplomat of the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine, and a phlebologist with years of experience. The decision on who provides your vein care is important. If you want an innovator in the field with years of experience and who has performed over thousands of vein procedures, Carullo Vein Center of Las Vegas is a great choice. Dr. Carullo is committed to excellence in vein care.

Subluxated Virus:
How Chiropractic Care Aids in Immunity By: Samuel Hickson
Although chiropractic medicine isn't a cure for the coronavirus, it could certainly help make the body and immune response stronger
ChiropracTED, led by Dr. Ted Sim, realized that although chiropractic medicine isn't a cure for the Coronavirus, it could certainly help make the body and immune response stronger. Dr. Sim, who also serves as the current Vice-President of the Nevada Chiropractic Council, is currently working to help his patients get through this trying time. According to Dr. Sim, most people often think about chiropractors after they have suffered some type of personal injury, such as in a car accident. However, Dr. Sim feels it is essential to know that chiropractic medicine, like most medical modalities, can be used for other purposes. One purpose of chiropractic is to support immune function. Dr. Sim says, “Without getting too heavily involved in the scientific and medical talk about the immune system, here is what we know. We know that COVID-19 and the fears around the virus can create a great deal of stress on the body. We know from the medical research that stress impacts the immune system. We also know that chiropractic medicine can help with making the body stronger to fight off the stressors of the environment.” Dr. Sim’s comments underscore a large and growing body of medical research that examines the impact of spinal manipulation on the immune response. While the research is scant, consistently, there is evidence that because of the inherent principle of chiropractic medicine to work with the body to heal itself, chiropractic medicine, through the use of spinal manipulations can help with improving the functionality of the immune response. As Dr.

Many of the other physicians in town have similar training and accolades as we have some excellent physicians in the area. This issue is devoted to the 2020 Greatest Medical Minds of Las Vegas. How do you ensure you find one or at least a trusted up and coming physician in the area? You have to be a consumer of care. Spend as much time on the person who works on your body and mind as

examples of where to look PATIENT GENERATED PHYSICIAN RATING SITES- The average physician is 3.8 stars out of 5. Look for a physician or practice with an above average rating. Ratings close to 5.0 should be looked at with concern as practices can game the system by using reputation defending platforms, that alone is a huge concern. One system that is hard to eliminate negative reviews for physicians in Yelp. The problem is reviews take work and are hence only put forth by people who really like their practice or people that have concerns. If a lot of the 1-star reviews are secondary to billing practices, they are often by patients who do not understand their insurance structure, co-pays, or co-insurance. More often these complaints are in the first 6 months of the year when people have not met their deductible. Look at sites such as Healthgrades, Yelp, Facebook, and Vitals. If one site is a 5.0 and Yelp is lower, and they have a lot of reviews on other sites, they often are pushing favorable reviews, the practice is often using reputation monitoring services. FORMAL PHYSICIAN RATINGS- Several rating systems have been in service for years for rating physicians. In my opinion, the best systems utilize referring physicians as a major factor in choosing their recognized physicians. Castle-Connelly is one of the most known systems, used for the longest period of time, and cannot be influenced by advertising. If you see a physician rating is high in other periodicals and the physician has an ad, it may have been influenced- unless it is Castle-Connelly- the most trusted name in physician reviews. This service has reviews for regional and national excellence.

IS THE DOCTOR BOARD CERTIFIED? – Board certification is a step that physicians take to demonstrate that they are keeping up to date with the latest advancements in their specialty. Board certification is another means that the provider has passed examinations showing they have a basic level of medical understanding in a specialty. You can check if your doctor is certified at certificationmatters.org/find-my-doctor CHECK THEIR WEBSITE – A more modern website does not guarantee physician quality but in the contemporary practice of medicine it does display a care for reaching out to patients. In addition, look for further information on the website on the physician you are interested in possibly seeking care from in the future. CALL THE OFFICE YOU ARE CONSIDERING- A superior office will often provide customer service before a visit. Ask about practice philosophy on things that are important to you and if a doctor will call you back. A high-performing practice for patients will often serve you prior to a visit or tell you why they cannot and attempt to communicate with you. HOW WAS YOUR FIRST VISIT? - Did you get full and respectful conversation during your appointment? Was you provider a good listener? How as the wait time and time spent with you during an appointment? Were your questions fully and respectfully answered?

Real Estate is Essential. Pandemic or Not. By: Dani Bradford
Nothing can make you take a second look at your business from all angles like a foreign deadly virus. If you may have become complacent or even stuck in monotonous day to day motions, I'm sure this pandemic has forced you to re-evaluate your business like finding and solving your old Rubik's cube. My business has been fortunate with only important tweaks to accommodate buyers, sellers, and the general public. Real estate is essential, people are on the move pandemic or not. When this began, Valley real estate agents were in the middle of home sales transactions, people were in the middle of relocations. We had to get creative and keep on moving. My active clients now have had more time to look at homes and decide. Prices may have dipped a little, which excites my home buyers to act on their dream home now before the prices start rising again when the city re-opens. Thankfully, our housing market was very strong when this began and continues to be strong. Quarantine or not for essential work, this has been a time to become more innovative and creative with how to conduct business. The use of virtual tours and using FaceTime has become more popular. Before, I only used those methods for my military clientele or relocating Federal Law Enforcement families.
37
Things have drastically changed for my clients that still need to see homes in person. We arrive at showings in our version of Hazmat gear. I come equipped with dozens of gloves for changing, Lysol wipes to disinfect lockboxes, keys, doorknobs, light switches, any surface frequently touched. We wear masks and footies. After the showing is done, we drench our hands in hand sanitizer and quickly escape to the safety of our vehicles. My listings have become proactive as well. Before the Wuhan Virus, we may have labeled someone who insists you wear masks, take your shoes off, and be doused in hand sanitizer before entering as quite the germaphobe. Today we thank them for keeping us and the community safe and taking this virus seriously. We agents should always keep on hand the materials needed to keep our clients safe. If this virus returns this winter, it would be smart to have gloves, masks, Lysol wipes, and hand sanitizer ready to go. We need to always be prepared for this again. This coronavirus will impact a lot of us for a long time. The full effect of this is a great forever. We need to rise to the challenge by keeping our essential profession safe.

ETHAN ZOHN is a motivational speaker, a former American professional soccer player, and a reality television series contestant who won $1,000,000 on Survivor: Africa, the third season of the reality TV series Survivor. He also appeared on the All-Stars and Winners at War editions of the show.
Plants, Not Pills
I had the pleasure of sitting down with Ethan to talk life after winning one million dollars on Survivor, about buying drugs in a dark alley on the streets of New York City not long after, and the moment when he found out that he had cancer, twice. He's not just a 'Survivor' of the television show, he's also a 'Survivor' in life. Siloh: "This is Siloh Moses from Real Vegas Magazine here with Ethan Zohn, Winner of Survivor: Africa. Winner of the one-million-dollar grand prize and now part of MontKush CBD brand. Ethan, great to meet you." Ethan: "Thank you. I'm happy to be here. "Siloh: "Ethan, we are going to get right down to it. Is that okay with you?" Ethan: "Yes. Of course." Siloh: "Great. Not long after winning Survivor (probably the best time of your life up to this point) and the grand prize of one million dollars, you found out that you had cancer. First, you

The high of winning a million dollars was crushed by the fact that I now had cancer." Siloh: "What did you do next?" Ethan: "Next was a long 4-month process. SUMMER ISSUE 2020 • REALVEGASMAGAZINE.COM
As a working woman it can be hard to carve out extra time out of your morning for an extensive beauty routine. If you are a woman on the go keep it simple by trying these makeup tips:
1. Start with Primer Choose a primer that also works as a moisturizer this will cut your makeup routine down by a step and help your makeup last longer.
I recommend: Refine moisturizer Twinmedic.com
2. eyes first If you struggle with eye shadow fall-out and can’t live without wearing it, try applying it first. This will make it easy to wipe off without having to start your beauty routine over.
3. Neutral is Natural Stick to using neutral tones when choosing makeup colors. Neutral tones are easier to blend when trying to create an eyeshadow look.
I recommend: 01 Neutral Mattes viseartparis.com
4. Tinted Moisturizer Tinted moisturizer is a great option if you have pore less beautiful skin and do not need the full coverage of a regular foundation. Forgo the use of a moisturizer and primer all together.
57
I recommend: Beautifier tinted cream Inglotusa.com
5. bold lip Choosing a red lip is a great way to slice your beauty routine in half. No need for eyeshadow; just a little mascara. Let your lips be the focal point.
6. Strategic Targeting

Local creator of Graffiti Mansion, Arman Izadi, Shows Off His ‘Quarantine Mansion’ to raise funds for a charity he has set up called First Responders during the Covid-19 crisis. The mission of his charity is to put the right tools, or much needed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) into the hands of healthcare providers and first responders in the United States. We talk to Arman about why he feels the need to clean up, and how local Las Vegas residents and people in the U.S. can now pool in together to help fight this invisible global pandemic killer.
TELL US HOW YOU CAME UP WITH THE IDEA OF ‘QUARANTINE MANSION’? Izadi: Well, I was feeling kind of ‘blue’ with the whole lock down situation, and as an artist, when this happens you get inspired. I just felt the need to paint, and express my emotional state with painting the whole mansion blue, and the need to set something up that would pull people together and make a difference. So the idea of calling it ‘Quarantine Mansion’ came about behind making the mansion ‘happy’ again, but also others happy again. I think “A Clean mansion is a Happy Mansion!” We’ve created loads of ‘foam’ all over the place to emphasize the idea of cleaning it up in the U.S. but also well known household names like Mr. Clean and paintings of him, and scrubbing sponges that come alive.
Q: WHAT IMPACT DO YOU HOPE TO MAKE THROUGH IT? Izadi: I thought about what would make the most impact now was to help the U.S. government save lives, and in order to do that the thing they need the most now is the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) so the charity First Responders was set up for this. I hope that people who have seen this in the news will support this cause, not because of me, but for themselves and their loved ones, other people’s loved ones to prevent more deaths in our country, and don’t forget all the healthcare workers and first responders who are the real heroes now.
Q: WHERE DO THE DONATIONS GO, AND HOW DOES IT WORK? Izadi: It’s really simple, as you go to the First Responder Source site: https://www.firstrespondersource.com/ and donate as much as you want. We just started this project but so far we’ve only donated a few hundred face masks. We spend the money on PPE items, such as face masks and they are being donated to anywhere within the U.S. that has shortages now- like hospitals or within healthcare. We’re also working with a beauty company in Barcelona, called Biovène Barcelona, who have set up something called 365 DOC to work with us. 365 DOC is where public organization and governmental mandates can go to get N95 3M 8210 respirators for the low cost of $1. The reason for this is because qualified hospitals need these now to save lives, and not worry about ridiculous prices, and this is what we’re also providing- an access and ability for them to do their job.
BESIDES DONATING, WHAT ELSE CAN THE PEOPLE OF LAS VEGAS AND THE U.S. DO TO HELP? Izadi: Besides donating yourself, tell everybody, and share it on social media. I think ‘a good thing’ is always infectious! We want to bring your attention to all the first responders out there to keep us safe.
