Read what four people have to say about their addictions…
Susan “I used to live alone and I got into the habit of eating chocolate when I was watching TV. I always used to enjoy it but it was never a problem in the past. Then I found I was eating more and more. I’d have some chocolate before meals, after meals and sometimes during meals! I put on more and more weight and I couldn’t give it up. My friends noticed too. One day I decided to stop and now I feel better without the weight. I still miss chocolate though!”
Tim “I used to love reading. I would often read 3 books a week. Then they invented the internet. I bought my first computer ten years ago and I immediately became addicted to it. Now, I usually spend four hours a night on the Net. It’s like having a best friend. I don’t go out much and I don’t have time to read any more.”
Brenda “When I was at school I didn’t use to do much sport. I’d often get my mother to give me a sick note so that I could miss the lessons. It was only when I started work that I took an interest in exercise. I wanted to look good. There’s a gym at work and I started going there. Now I go everyday…I love it! In fact it’s about the only thing I do in my leisure time.”
John “Smoking used to be quite acceptable. Everyone did it when we were young. I smoked for years, 40 a day sometimes and I was totally dependent on it. When I got married, my wife told me she hated the smell of cigarettes so I used hypnotherapy and quit smoking, for her.”
