8 CLEVER WAYS TO INCREASE YOUR BATHROOM FUNCTIONALITY Describe your ideal “bathroom” and the word “functional” will probably come to mind. After all, few other spaces in the house serve so many purposes. One moment it’s a bath-time playpen for the kids; full of toys, bubbles, and noise, and the next it’s a candle-lit, jazz-infused meditation retreat, perfect for some downtime once the kiddos have gone to bed.
There is more opportunity to maximize your bathroom’s functionality than you might expect. Sure, throwing some cubbies under the counter and buying a drawer divider helps organize the space, but trust us when we say there is yet-untapped potential for your bathroom to serve your family’s needs even better. So, how do you make this Swiss-ArmyKnife of a room even more functional? Here are 8 ideas that will help you do just that.
6
Effortless 2018 | REBATH.COM
1
Bye-bye bathtub
THE IDEA: Consider replacing your bathtub with a tub-to-shower conversion. Over 60% of homeowners prefer a shower to a traditional tub, and for good reason. On average, this uber-functional improvement adds 5 square feet of usable space to your family’s bathroom and offers a much more practical bathing option. Though more involved than some ideas listed here, partnering with an experienced professional for the installation will make this upgrade as enjoyable as it is functional. ADDED BONUS: For seniors and individuals with limited mobility, replacing your bathtub with a low-threshold shower makes the bathroom dramatically more accessible.
2
More maneuverable
THE IDEA: Adding grab bars to your new or existing bathroom goes a long way in making your bathroom more functional and welcoming. Slips and falls are downright dangerous, and family members young and old will benefit from this small but mighty safety measure. Forget the cold, medical device-like bars of yesteryear. Modern grab bars are beautiful in their own right, perfectly complementing your bathroom’s aesthetic. Few bathroom improvements are as simple, beautiful, and functional as a grab bar. ADDED BONUS: Recent data shows mobility-friendly bathrooms are prized by home buyers, and can drive up your home’s value more than almost any other upgrade.
3
Clever convenience
THE IDEA: Mirrored medicine cabinets are a highly functional, dual-purpose solution for keeping bathroom essentials out of sight and out of mind. These mirror/cabinet combinations not only add beauty and depth to your bathroom, but they offer lots of extra storage where you need it most. A variety of modern and classic mirror styles, offered in a hinge or sliding designs mean there is a model to complement any aesthetic. ADDED BONUS: For families with young children, mirrored medicine cabinets help keep toiletries and medicines tucked away from curious hands.

Lighting upgrades
THE IDEA: Upgrading your bathroom’s light fixtures is often an overlooked yet powerful way to make the room more functional. Poorly lit bathrooms feel small and cold, and can make everyday chores like makeup and hygiene more time-consuming. Installing a new vanity, wall hanging, or sconce lighting will make the space feel bigger and more inviting, and help minimize the amount of time you spend on mundane tasks. As you might expect, there is a seemingly endless variety of light fixture designs, which means your lighting upgrade can be as beautiful as it is functional. ADDED BONUS: Not only is a new light fixture one of the most immediately rewarding bathroom improvements you can make, it’s among the most affordable.

5
Fashionably functional
THE IDEA: Adding new towel hooks is a simple, affordable, and totally functional upgrade to your bathroom’s look. Modern bathroom designs continue to blend aesthetics and practicality, and these handy accessories are no exception. A variety of materials, colors, and finishes make for an impressive finished product, even to the most discerning homeowner. When it comes to minimally invasive but totally practical bathroom upgrades, it is hard to beat towel hooks. ADDED BONUS: Simply having a place to hang wet towels, as opposed to leaving them in a pile on the floor or hanging off of doors, can instantly transform how your bathroom feels day-to-day.
6
Splendid storage
THE IDEA: Installing a new vanity instantly improves the storage capacity and usability of your bathroom. By keeping towels, toiletries, and all other daily essentials neatly organized and tucked away, your bathroom takes on a spacious, tidy appearance. Another fantastic function of a new vanity is the additional counter space they offer. Especially in smaller or shared bathrooms, having a couple extra square feet of room for daily makeup and hygiene routines makes all the difference in the world. Not sure which vanity is right for your space? Speak with an experienced designer for some professional input. ADDED BONUS: As the homeowner, installing a new vanity is a chance for you to show off your personal sense of style. A plethora of wood colors, cabinet designs, and granite or marble countertop options make this upgrade truly personal.
7
Practical repurposing
THE IDEA: Recycling old furniture for new purposes around the house is a great way to minimize the financial and economical cost of upgrading your bathroom. Old dressers and nightstands are great for towel and toiletry storage, and often just require some sandpaper, paint and elbow grease. If you don’t have a spare chest of drawers laying around, a quick search of local classifieds is sure to reveal a plethora of low cost and free choices. ADDED BONUS: Repurposing old or spare furniture for bathroom use means you’re likely not concerned with keeping it in original condition, so you’re free to try all sorts of paint and stain options until you find something you love.
8
Handy accessories
THE IDEA: Built-in benches, caddies and shelving make bathing more convenient and enjoyable. While disposable plastic caddies and shower seats are common in family bathrooms, premanufactured stone and wood pieces offer a permanent and secure solution to storage and seating in the shower. We say minimizing clutter while improving the overall appearance of the bathroom is a win for any homeowner. ADDED BONUS: Built-in benches, shower caddies and shelving can blend perfectly into your bathroom’s existing design, and don’t necessarily require a new shower unit.
Making your bathroom more functional should be as enjoyable as it is practical. The Re-Bath process is designed to do exactly that. We start by pairing you with a design consultant to guide you through the entire remodel process, and to make sure you’ll love the finished result for many years to come.

Q&A
BEFORE
WITH RE-BATH FRANCHISE IN GRAND RAPIDS We sat down with Lori Grover, owner of Re-Bath in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to talk about her passion for bathroom remodeling, what customers can expect from Re-Bath, and more!
10
Q
I saw a photo of your latest bathroom remodel – gorgeous! Tell us about it.
A
Thank you! That project came from a home remodeling show we attended. We put in a new tub and shower with a horizontal, teakwood DuraBath® Natural Stone and mosaic wall surround. This was a good example of how we work with homeowners. When we installed the wall surround, we noticed a red vein running through the stone over the tub. It was small, but to the homeowner it looked unpleasant, so we worked together to find a solution. We ended up adding a custom designed tile square to cover that spot so that it looked perfectly intentional. It turned out great — and the homeowner loved it!
Effortless 2018 | REBATH.COM
Q
Clever! Tell us about your history; what led you to become a Re-Bath franchisee?
A
Before becoming franchisees, we’d not been in the remodeling industry at all. In fact, I began my adult career as a registered nurse. But after having five boys, a nursing schedule just wasn’t working for me. My husband owned an orthopedic sales distributorship, and while I raised our kids, I helped him with the business. So, we both had 15 years of experience running a business. Once the kids were grown and moved out I was bored — you can only play so much tennis! That’s when I began looking for something to do. Some friends of ours have a few Re-Bath franchises in Florida. And they hadn’t been in the industry either, so it took out the intimidation of jumping in. We bought Re-Bath of West Michigan in 2009. The franchise in Battle Creek helped us out a lot. The owner even sent his installers to help us with our initial projects and got our installers up to speed.
AFTER
Q
And the rest is history?
Pretty much! It’s been almost 10 years now. There were definitely a lot more moving parts than we anticipated. It was a learning process. Even now we are always learning and trying new things. Sitting down with each customer and learning about their lifestyle, their needs and wants, and then working together to come up with the right solution is so rewarding. Sometimes the process can seem a bit haphazard, but it always comes together beautifully in the end. Seeing the look on a customer’s face when they step into their new bathroom — that never gets old!
Q
What’s the best thing about owning a Re-Bath franchise?
A
For us, it’s a family business. Two of our sons work with me. One is an installer and the other handles all the ordering. And one of my daughters-inlaw is our photographer. She goes out on day one to take a “before” picture and again when the project is completed to take the “after” shot. After ten years, I’m finally ready to start working my way out, and turning the business over to my sons. I have five new daughters-in-law, nine new grandbabies and more on the way, so life just gets busier — and better!
A
Q
Sounds like you have your hands full! What has been your favorite project so far?
A
One of the first remodels we did is memorable for me. It was a complete remodel — everything but the floor. As a new owner, and being new to the industry, it was a bit intimidating, but Rod, who owns the Re-Bath in Battle Creek, was so helpful. We learned a great deal during that project, and also discovered how tight the network of Re-Bath owners is. So many people were willing to jump in and help us be successful. It really is an incredible network of professionals all dedicated to helping homeowners get a beautiful, functional bathroom they’ll be able to enjoy for years to come.

17 TIPS FOR CREATING A LUXURY SPA AT HOME
It’s the end of a long day. You walk into the house, set your keys down, and inhale, breathing in the comforts of home and exhaling the stresses of modern life. Many of us look to make our houses an escape from the hectic outside world. A destination of comfort, relaxation and peace. It’s no wonder that recreating an atmosphere of ultimate relaxation is a growing trend. If a home spa sounds too good to be true, you’re in luck. We’ve taken inspiration from some of the world’s greatest spas to assemble this list of practical, actionable ideas for turning your bathroom into a mini, luxury spa (and you won’t have to spend $100 an hour to enjoy it).
Delight the senses 1
12
Bring in aloe, lavender, or bamboo plants to purify the air and add a touch of nature to your bathroom. There are countless options perfect for any space. Be sure to choose plants that do well in humid environments with little or no direct sunlight.
2
Let stress float away with a countertop waterfall. The soothing sounds of cascading water help your spa achieve an air of serenity.
3
Add a diffuser to infuse your bathroom with the aroma of lavender, eucalyptus, lilac and other soothing scents. Though candles and incense are ever-popular, diffusers provide the same benefits with less upkeep (and they don’t require an open flame).
Effortless 2018 | REBATH.COM
4
Try natural cleaning products with DIY guides like this one for a more soothing atmosphere. The odor left by harsh chemical cleaners can detract from a relaxing environment.
5
Bluetooth speakers are perfect for setting the tone of a relaxing retreat. Playing some of your favorite mood-music or natural sounds while you soak is an ideal way to end the day.
6
Thick, soft towels are an easy upgrade. And if you want to take it a step further, consider adding a towel warmer. Imagine stepping out of a steaming bath or shower and wrapping yourself in a warm, luxurious bath towel. It doesn’t get much more relaxing than that!
A serene setting
7
An earthy color palette of greens, blues, browns, and greys help to create a calming atmosphere. Consult with a design professional to choose a serene palette that works with your style and décor.
10
Use a combination of stone and wood-like materials in your bathroom. Not only does this make your bathroom feel warm and inviting, it will be more resilient to mold, mildew and stains.
8
Transfer soaps, body washes, and shampoos to apothecary-style dispensers for an uncluttered appearance.
11
Beautiful, durable, and resilient, stone or tile flooring is a major spa-like upgrade. Wood-like materials are another great option for a natural appearance.
9
Install dimmer switches to set a calm, sunsetlike mood. Lighting is a critical component of a professional spa’s tranquil ambiance.
15
Consider adding a shower bench or a built-in caddy. Matching benches are a beautiful, functional addition to almost any shower, and a built-in caddy makes storage a breeze and adds a 5-star touch.
16
Touchless faucets and soap dispensers are reminiscent of high-end luxury spas and simple to install. A little bit of the right technology can add a lot of luxury.
17
A new shower head is the perfect way to cap off a spa-inspired transformation. Modern designs that mimic the natural flow of falling rain are a joy to see and use.
Accessorize for tranquility 12
13
14
Replace those plastic or rubber body scrubbers with natural loofahs and sponges. Biodegradable and inexpensive, these are perfect accessories for a relaxing experience. The right mirror can complete the look of your vanity or countertop arrangement. Out of date, dirty or broken mirrors are unsightly and easily replaceable for a more modern look. A plush bathrobe and comfortable slippers is affordable luxury at its finest and will perfectly complement your new home spa.

5 WAYS
RE-BATH TAKES THE HEADACHE OUT OF BATHROOM REMODELING The time has come for you to build your dream bathroom. Finally, you’ll get the new lighting you’ve been dreaming of, you’ll get to ditch that old bathtub, and last but not least, you can update that faucet that’s just a bit past it’s prime. Sounds dreamy… until you start thinking about the logistics: money, timing, and endless decisions. It can make the entire bathroom remodeling process a little bit daunting. Where to begin?
18
Effortless 2018 | REBATH.COM
1
Re-Bath saves you precious time. Tackling a home remodeling project typically means spending several weekends shopping for products, comparing prices and scheduling deliveries. It’s an exhaustive process with more choices than the cereal aisle of the grocery store. Deciding on the color, style and material for every fixture and surface in your bathroom can truly be overwhelming. Working with Re-Bath means you won’t have to spend the next three Saturdays driving from store to store. Instead, you’ll receive a no-cost, no-obligation design consultation in the comfort of your own home. Our design consultant will bring a showroom’s worth of products, materials, and design ideas right to you, so you can make educated decisions with the help of an experienced professional. If time is money, this one’s a no-brainer!
2
Re-Bath helps you stay within your budget. Let’s face it, there’s a wide range of bathroom remodel products available to homeowners. From flooring and vanities, to tubs, showers and fixtures, you can spend a little, or a lot. Most contractors will give you a rough estimate to remodel your bathroom. But by the time you finish picking everything out, that estimate has gone up by 30 or 40 percent. That’s because contractors don’t factor in high-end products. Re-Bath prides itself on delivering world-class bathroom remodels for every budget. During your no-cost consultation, our design consultant will help you select materials, finishes, fixtures, and accessories within your chosen budget. Then, before any work is done, you’ll be provided an honest, accurate quote of your final cost. Say goodbye to over-budget home improvement project anxiety!
3
Re-Bath helps you see the big picture. Not only is it difficult to make all those decisions, but unless you have a degree in design, knowing exactly how to get the style you’re after can be intimidating. Is that faucet contemporary or transitional? Does that traditional faucet complement the lighting fixtures you’re considering? Working with a Re-Bath design consultant means you’ll have years of remodeling experience at your disposal. Our experts are trained in both the latest trends and the styles with the greatest staying power. They know the difference between trends and fads, and how to mix metals and other materials to get the desired effect. They’ll also ask about your needs, the needs of your family, and about your overall expectations for the remodel. This way, you’re sure to choose the right fixtures, vanities, flooring, and accessories that will bring your dream bathroom to life.
4
Re-Bath provides assistance — without the pressure If you’ve ever been accosted by an aggressive sales person, you know how stressful shopping for home products can be. The Re-Bath process is designed to make your bathroom remodel an enjoyable, stress-free and painless experience. Re-Bath design consultants are trained to identify your needs, listen to your concerns, and assemble your ideal bathroom without any high-pressure sales tactics. We believe the homeowner’s experience is just as important as the finished product. That means we realize your remodel is about you, and we won’t start assembling your dream bathroom until you’re ready.
5
Re-Bath helps you maximize the return on your investment According to the 2018 Cost vs Value Report, a mid-range bathroom remodel offers a 70% return on a homeowner’s investment. Quick turnaround and cost-effective pricing make a Re-Bath bathroom remodel an ideal choice for homeowners who are thinking about selling or struggling to sell their homes. Even if you have no inclination to move, knowing that you’ll be able to recoup almost two thirds of your cost is a big win. Having an expert guide you through your product, material, and color choices may help you get the most from your home later on.

4 GREAT REASONS TO DITCH YOUR TUB
Walk through a recently remodeled bathroom and you might notice something — the bathtub is missing. In fact, 60% of homeowners prefer a shower over a tub, according to the National Association of Realtors. More homeowners than ever before are upgrading their bathrooms with tub-to-shower conversions. Especially in homes where each square foot is precious, ditching the tub can be a great solution for the perfect full or even partial bathroom remodel. More than a simple replacement, modern showers are an artistic blend of form and function. Beautiful designs and materials, slip and mold resistant finishes, and an array of shower door options mean showers feel more spa-like than utilitarian. But is this trend of throwing the tub out with the bath water a smart choice for you? Maybe. Here are four reasons to consider:
BEFORE 22
Effortless 2018 | REBATH.COM
TUB-TO-SHOWER CONVERSIONS ARE INCREASINGLY POPULAR Ditching the bathtub in favor of a modern, easily maintained, aesthetically pleasing shower adds value and space to a home.
1. Peace of mind Traditional
bathtubs can be a source of stress for homeowners. Porcelain tubs built in the mid 1970s, for example, may have lead in the glaze or even contain lead dust, exposing homeowners to dangerous levels of lead poisoning. For mature adults and those with limited mobility, getting in and out of a traditional tub can be difficult. A tub-toshower conversion is ideal for homeowners who want to maximize their bathroom’s comfort and safety. When combined with grab bars and seating accessories, showers are safe and easy to access and navigate.
2. Lower maintenance Less upkeep means less stress – and less pain! Scrubbing a tub is hard on backs and knees. A new shower built with modern materials such as groutfree, mold-resistant wall surrounds reduces the amount of maintenance a bathroom requires. Imagine never having to re-grout or scrub away mildew again!
3. A spa-like aesthetic
Modern bathrooms are more than just a utilitarian space. The privacy a bathroom affords, along with new products, design elements and accessories can turn it into an in-home spa you’ll enjoy spending time in. Replacing an old tub with a sleek shower instantly creates the minimalist vibe of an expensive spa. Luxurious materials like stone, wood, or tile make the shower not only functional, but eye-catching, as well. The addition of accessories like seamless bench seating, frameless shower doors, and built-in shelving add a level of convenience and style. Upgrade your lighting, and add a basket of spa essentials such as scented soaps, lotions and candles for an aromatherapy experience you can’t wait to come home to.
Re-Bath is unique with the ability to design and install your new shower in days. By custom-fitting your new shower into the space where your bathtub resides, your bathroom is “under construction” for the shortest possible amount of time.
4. Maximized space
The average bathroom has a footprint of just 35-40 square feet. In a room this small, every square inch is valuable real estate. Replacing a bathtub with a shower gives homeowners back an average of five square feet of space. That’s enough extra storage for towels, soaps and lotions, and other essentials. As an added bonus, replacing your tub with a glass-enclosed shower can create the illusion of space, making your bathroom feel larger than it is. Speak to a design professional to see what your best options are for making the most of your bathroom’s footprint. 1-844-9-REBATH

IS YOUR BATHROOM
CLUTTERED? Toothpaste, towels, hand soap, extra toilet paper and more — bathrooms have a way of cramming lots of stuff into a small space. Organizing a bathroom can be a challenge. For most of us, these compact but important spaces are shared by spouses, kids, friends and guests. Which makes clever storage and consolidation a priority. We came up with five tips to help organize your bathrooms.
Be honest about what you NEED Add storage space Thinking of knocking out a wall just to add space? Before you do any demolition work, consider adding some beautifully designed storage instead. Extra drawers, shelving and cabinets can make a world of difference, and keep all of those extra personal care products within reach but out of sight. Re-Bath partners with Bertch to provide customers with high quality, functional storageready cabinetry that’s built to last.

We’ve all been guilty of leaving halfempty shampoo bottles in the shower. Or keeping that paper-thin tube of toothpaste. The first step to organizing your bathroom is to rid yourself of all the junk. If you haven’t used it in a week, in the trash it goes. Have three bottles of the same product, two nearly empty and one new? “Marry” the older ones and recycle the empty bottle. Letting go can be hard, but before you break out a bunch of clever organizing solutions, make sure you’re organizing items worth keeping.
Make your shower work harder Organizing shampoos, conditioners, lotions, and soaps can be a challenge. Quickly, the shower fills up with bottles and containers, leaving an unsightly disorganized mess. Though plastic removable shelving is commonly used as a quick-fix, these units are prone to falling and breaking. In addition, they often fill with soap scum and residue. Update the look of your shower and amplify storage space with Re-Bath’s built-in shower caddies and shelving units. Even a built-in shower bench is a clever way to add storage, safety and functionality.
Re-Bath offers storage designs to meet the needs of every bathroom. Available in small, medium, and large sizes, in a variety of framed and edgeless designs, these all-in-one pieces accommodate the need for maximizing space without sacrificing style.
Ditch the bar soap Bar soap is especially good at leaving scum, residue and film on counters, sinks and showers. Swapping it out for liquid hand soaps, body washes, and lotions can not only save you hours of cleanup time but leave your bathroom more presentable overall. Remember, organizing is often about preventing the mess in the first place.
Think dual purpose Dual purpose mirror and cabinet units serve to enhance the organization, look and feel of your bathroom. A small storage unit behind the mirror keeps personal items safely tucked away, and has the added benefit of making the space appear larger. Layered shelving is hidden neatly beneath a fold-out or collapsing mirror.

TIME TO GET BRASSY
MIXING METALS IN THE BATHROOM It used to be a no-no to mix metals in a bathroom. Most of us don’t have any problem mixing metals in the kitchen. For example, small appliances may be different than the large ones, so why not think about mixing metals in the bathroom? Say goodbye to the concept of every single metal finish on everything being matchy, matchy, because this season it’s all about combining different metals into your bathroom to create depth, and visual interest to the space.

Effortless 2018 | REBATH.COM
TIPS FOR MIXING METALS
Here are the dos and don’ts for reaching the best results!
THE HOTTEST TRENDS IN FAUCET FINISHES • Two-toned finishes are returning • Matte Black in combination with finishes such as: Chrome, Stainless, and Gold • All Matte Black • Satin Brass, Aged Brass, Unfinished Brass • Satin Gold • Champagne Bronze • Copper With so many choices, the trickiest part of mixing metals is knowing how to create a delicate balance to achieve a mixed metal look without looking too crazy. Mixing metals is such a hot design trend because it adds depth to the room and looks beautiful. 1 It gives the room balance. 2 It creates a “collected” look. 3 The result is a unique
and personal feel.
(Your bathroom deserves better than looking like everything came from one collection in a hardware store)
DO
• Pick a dominant metal. This metal should be the finish used for the majority of the features in your bathroom. The best place to start is by choosing a metal finish for your favorite hardware, faucet or light fixture and using that as an anchor in the bathroom. • Choose one or two supporting metals. Combinations to try; Bronze with Copper, Gold with polished Silver or Gold with Chrome. When choosing an accent metal, Black is always a safe bet. You can frame mirrors, your shower enclosure, and art with Black as your accent to use with almost every metal finish. Repeat each metal at least twice. • Pay attention to color. Warmer metals will work best in bathrooms that also have a warm color palette. For bathrooms that have shades of greens, blues and violets, it would be best to use cooler metals like nickel and chrome. For more neutral color bathrooms in shades of earth tones, use a mixture of both warm and cool metals to create a sophisticated appearance.
DON’T
• Overdo it. Sometimes less is more. Make sure you don’t have all the metals in one room. In general, you don’t want to use more than 3 metal finishes in any one room. Bathrooms are small spaces and you don’t want to feel overwhelmed. Select one metal to use most and then incorporate different metals with door handles, mirrors, faucets, vanity knobs or light fixtures. • Incorporate different finishes. If it has the same function, always use the same finish. For example, the sink faucet should be the same metal as the tub spout and shower head. • The bathroom will look best if mixed with a combination cool and warm metals. Don’t be limited by old rules. Examples of cool metals include chrome, stainless steel, nickel, pewter (and to a lesser extent–black) while warmer metals include brass, bronze, gold, rose gold and copper. There are so many great combinations. A bathroom has plenty of opportunities to mix metals, from the plumbing fixtures to the accessories. The most important thing to remember is that it’s all about keeping a balance and paying attention to your color scheme.

WALL PAPER FOR AN EYE POPPING POWDER ROOM
If there is one room in your house that you keep working on, re-touching and redesigning, but never feel like you have achieved the look you’re ultimately going for, for most people that room is the guest powder room: “The Jewel Box of your home.”

Consider Wallpaper If you thought you knew wallpaper, it’s time to think again. We might associate wallpaper with the 1950s, but boring walls were given personality with wallpaper beginning five centuries ago with the invention of the printing press. Wallpaper has been gaining in popularity fueled by improved selections and a renewed interest as public exposure. Wallpaper has the ability to transform a room in ways that paint can’t. Paint is one dimensional, and wallpaper adds a very different dimension to your walls. Three elements to keep in mind when tackling the powder room: 1 Color pallet
2 How bold of a
statement to make
3 Budget
One of the best features of wallpaper today is the wide range of options and colors. Technology has made the product more attractive. You can purchase wallpaper that looks like tile, with bold geometric designs, or unexpected color palettes, and larger scale prints that offer a modern take on a classic design. You can even get wallpaper that mimics natural materials like wood and stone. Don’t be afraid to see a small space as an opportunity to think big. Hanging a big, bold pattern in a small room might seem counterintuitive, but when done correctly, it can actually make the space appear larger- and certainly more lively and unexpected. One accent wall may be all you need to achieve the drama of wallpaper without the huge commitment, and don’t forget the 5th wall–the ceiling. There are many types of wallpaper, but four of the most popular kinds are vinyl coated, coated fabric, paper or solid sheet backed vinyl, and fabric backed vinyl.
Vinyl-coated wallpaper is one of the most diverse types, suitable for almost any room, but particularly the bathroom due to its improved water resistance. This type of paper is sprayed or coated with an acrylic vinyl on its surface resistant to moisture penetration. A popular type of paper due to its wipe-ability, ease to hang and strip abilities. Similar to vinyl-coated paper, fabric-backed vinyl wallpaper has a strong moisture resistant surface. As its name implies, this type has a fabric backing rather than a paper one. Fabric-backed vinyl paper is very durable and tear resistant as well as impervious to moisture and humidity. Moisture resistant wallpaper is great for bathrooms, but that doesn’t mean waterproof. It’s recommended to install a tile or hard surface splash around the vanity. A single roll of wallpaper measures about 56 square feet. However, after waste is figured in, you won’t get much more than 30 square feet of coverage. When ordering wallpaper make sure you clarify whether you are talking about single or double rolls, and American or European coverings. Wallpapers come in an infinite array of styles and price ranges, but a rule of thumb for what you can expect to pay ranges from around $40 to $60 for a single roll of lower priced paper to around $140 for a single roll of mid-range paper, and $300 or more for a high end paper. It’s a good idea to order a sample before proceeding with an order, and always inspect the wallpaper you have purchased roll by roll to ensure you have the correct paper, color, and sufficient quantity of the same lot number. There are many flaws you can spot even with new paper. Some flaws include: damaged edges, un-even coloring from side to side or roll to roll.
Who to Hire While it’s possible to hang wallpaper yourself, it’s not recommended. Professional wallpaper installation can save you time, money, and frustration. It pays to do your research before hiring a wallpaper hanger. • Ask for recommendations • Check references • Search the National Guild of Professional Paperhangers database for members in your area. • Make sure he or she has a contractors license, if required in your state, and insurance
• Once you’ve narrowed down your list of qualified candidates, it’s time to solicit bids.
• Installing wallpaper is a fun way to transform the look of a room without radically altering the space.
• The lowest price isn’t always the best deal. A more expensive paperhanger may use higher quality materials.
• Take your time in choosing a wall covering you truly love, and you’ll love it when it’s up.
• Installation costs depend on many factors including: size of the wall(s), condition of wall(s), the number of obstacles, and your location. 1-844-9-REBATH

REMODELING YOUR
MASTER BATHROOM GUEST BATHROOM
VS
It’s in the DETAILS Your master bathroom is your sanctuary. The one place that reflects your personal taste, and the one place you’ve probably given the most thought. Most homeowners try to achieve a spa-like pampering in their master bath. Typically, homeowners are willing to spend more on a master bath because it receives the most use on a daily basis. It’s the one room where we tend to splurge on luxurious materials, and the one room we start and end each day and will for decades to come. It should feel welcoming, comforting and refreshing to you. Will your master bathroom be your at-home spa? On the outset, make a list of what you’d like your new bathroom to include and how you need it to function. Remember: This first stage is your wish list, so the sky’s the limit. After this step, you will make sure your list is both practical and affordable for your circumstances. No matter the size of the room, details pull the style together, and they often make the difference between a design that’s nice but boring, and one that has personality and polish. Some of the best details you can include are the smallest-drawer pulls picked up at resale store or a reclaimed bracket from an architectural salvage yard.
34
Effortless 2018 | REBATH.COM
Consider the style and setting of your home. Your master bath should take its style cues from your master bedroom. Design them with a common style, even if there is a door between them. A style you have loved for years is most likely to fit this description. Style coordination between bedroom and bathroom is especially important in an open master suite. Your master bedroom suite should inspire the shapes and finishes of your master bathroom cabinetry. Sharing lighting styles can lend inspiration to the fixtures in the bathroom. Continue the master bedroom’s flooring color into the bathroom flooring. This color can be carried over as an accent color in the tile or as its dominant hue, which will make the spaces look larger. You are only limited by size, budget, and imagination – and some local codes. So, go ahead and pamper yourself.
Got Guests? Practical and Beautiful Guest Bathroom When it comes time to remodeling, many homeowners think master bathroom first and guest bathroom down the road. Guest bathrooms may get forgotten altogether. However, the guest bathroom is the one visitors are more likely to see and a “gift” to your family and friends. Every room in your house has the potential to showcase your personal style, and your guest bathroom is no exception. Creating a welcoming space for friends and family doesn’t have to cost a lot either. In fact, you can take a more practical approach to the guest bathroom and still create a dynamic, and functional space for overnight guests.

CUSTOMER HIGHLIGHT
MY RE-BATH STORY AFTER 26 YEARS OF HEAVY USE, LANE AND CAROL’S BATHROOM WAS BEGINNING TO SHOW ITS AGE. “It started with the floor,” says Carol. She described it as “getting ugly” with little cracks developing. The finish on the tub began deteriorating, too. “It was builder quality to begin with,” her husband explained. Carol tried added accessories to make it look nicer but it just wasn’t up to their standards. That’s when the couple saw a Re-Bath commercial and were drawn to the idea of not having to work with several contractors, but having one company handle the complete bathroom remodel from start to finish.
Getting started
Four days later…
Lane and Carol sat down with Re-Bath’s Design Consultant, who explained the entire process. “He had a ton of samples to look at, and there was such a logical progression from one thing to the next,” Carol says. “We had a lot of choices. We sat there for at least three hours talking!”
Lane and Carol’s bathroom remodel started on a Tuesday and by Friday at 1:00 they were finished! “I thought they were going to lunch,” laughs Lane, “but nope, they were done!”
There wasn’t much the couple needed to do to prepare. They cleared an entrance and moved pictures to make it easy for the crew to get in and get started. “On the first day,” says Lane, “the man came in and went upstairs. We didn’t’ even know he was up there most of the time!”
“I was blown away when I saw how well everything went together, how nice it looked and how clean it was,” Carol says. The couple is so happy with the way their bathroom turned out, they’re already talking about their next project. “She’s already talking about our other bathroom!” Lane says. “I’m so glad we did it,” Carol adds. “I love every part of it!”
Carol remembers being “impressed by the way everything was cleaned up when he left for the day.”

SAFETY IN YOUR BATHROOM
Bathroom safety isn’t just for toddlers and aging adults. All of us can benefit from paying attention to safety – and a thoughtfully designed space that keeps safety in mind can benefit every member of your family, and all your guests, too. With this in mind, we’ve scoured the internet to pull together this comprehensive list of bathroom safety tips. Bathroom safety is no joke. You might very well need to make some safety upgrades, either because your current bathroom doesn’t accommodate a family member with different abilities, or because you’re concerned about being able to stay in your own home as you get older. Either way, that doesn’t mean you can’t have a gorgeous bathroom that you love!

1
Store cords away from water sources.
2
Install slip resistant flooring.
3
Keep your home’s water temp at or below 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
4
Cap electrical outlets with safety covers.
5
Install good lighting and night lights.
6
Install a handheld shower head so users of all sizes and abilities can bathe safely.
7
Use non-slip mats in the tub and shower to help prevent slipping on wet surfaces.
8
Equip your faucet with an anti-scald device.
9
If your shower is equipped with glass doors, be sure they are non-breakable (safety glass).
10
Use battery-powered candles versus traditional to avoid fire hazards.
11
Be sure that all outlets in your bathroom are GFCI-protected — test once a month.
12
70% of aging adults use shower features such as a towel bar or the glass shower door to help steady themselves when getting out of the shower or onto the toilet. This can cause series falls and injuries. Instead, install weight-bearing grab bars near the shower, tub, and toilet.
13
Use a shower chair or add a seamless shower seat for safety and stability.
14
Install a raised toilet seat for family members with limited mobility.
15
Consider a walk-in shower. Not only are they trendy right now, but their no-lip entry makes them an ideal universal design solution for people of all ages and abilities.
16
If you’re an older adult or have different abilities, consider a walk-in tub. Modern walk-in tubs offer thoughtful design features such as door handles that are easy to operate, faucets that are easy to reach and use, and comfortable slide-in seats that accommodate users of all abilities.
17
Install a bathroom door that swings out rather than in. That way, if a fall does occur, help can easily access the bathroom.

GETTING YOUR BATHROOM GUEST-READY
FOR THE HOLIDAYS Ready or not, the holidays have arrived. If you’ll be entertaining guests — whether for dinner or for a week-long visit — you’re no doubt working hard to make your home feel warm and welcoming: washing linens, eradicating dust bunnies, and maybe even cleaning the leftovers out of the fridge.
“Clean guest bathroom” is likely on the to-do list already. But to earn your Holiday Hostess with the Mostest award, you’ll want to go beyond scrubbing the toilet and wiping the toothpaste off the mirror. Here’s how to make your bathroom truly guestready for the holidays:
Offer Some Amenities It’s thoughtful to clear away bathroom clutter, but don’t go overboard. Make sure the soap dispenser is full, and leave a fresh hand towel on the rack—and not an overly fancy one that no one’s sure they’re allowed to use. Better yet, leave a basket of disposal towels on the vanity. (Hand towels get a bit soggy during holiday parties!) Also, provide a basket of items your overnight guests may have forgotten to pack: • razor and shaving cream • toothbrush and toothpaste • mini-bottles of shampoo and conditioner • body soap (in a bottle, not a bar) • feminine hygiene products
Brighten Up Your Space Clear the Clutter If your guests will be staying overnight, help them feel more at home by clearing some clutter: • Stash your collection of miscellaneous cleaners and lotions. • Pitch those mostly empty bottles of shampoo and conditioner currently taking up space in the shower. • Tidy up the linen closet, so it’s obvious which towels your guests should use. • If your guests include children, be sure to put medications out of reach. 42
Effortless 2018 | REBATH.COM
Updating your bathroom lighting is a quick and inexpensive way to make your bathroom guest-ready for the holidays. Simply swapping out your light bulbs can make a difference. Look for 2700-3000K bulbs with a Color Rendering Index (CRI) of at least 80.
Do Some Remodeling If you’ve been thinking about a partial or complete bathroom remodel, the holidays are a perfect excuse to make that happen. Update your shower with a beautiful stone wall surround, choose stylish cabinets and countertops, upgrade your faucets and showerhead, and/or replace your flooring with beautiful, durable tile.

Q&A WITH RE-BATH DESIGN CONSULTANT BRADLEE NEUHAUS Recently, we sat down with Bradlee Neuhaus, Re-Bath Design Consultant at Re-Bath in Phoenix to talk about her latest project, trends in the bathroom remodeling industry, what customers can expect from Re-Bath and more!
Q
Tell us about your background; what led you to become a Re-Bath Design Consultant?
Q
A
It’s in my blood! My mom is an interior decorator and I grew up watching her remodel bathrooms and bedrooms. She used to design faux finishes on walls and furniture and I developed an interest in that. I never thought I’d be doing bathroom design, but once I finished college, my career naturally led me to Re-Bath. I’ve been with the company for about a year and a half now.
A
Q
What does your design process look like?
A
48
It’s very different from job to job, but each project involves solving problems in a client’s bathroom. That might be an outdated style, lack of safety or the need for increased functionality. A lot of our clients want to make sure their bath and shower are safe. I work with them to incorporate features such as low-profile shower floors, slip resistant technology and safety accessories. The key is that while they might need an ADA-accessible bathroom, they want to feel comfortable in their home. Baths are the most used rooms in the house but usually the space is long overdue for a remodel.
Effortless 2018 | REBATH.COM
Where do you get your inspiration?
Our customers look to us for guidance so the most important step is sitting down and talking with them. Their wants and needs are framed around their lifestyle. Young families with small children need more space, and more storage. More mature couples need a safe space that’s easy to navigate. I take my inspiration from their personal stories and looking around their home to incorporate design elements from other rooms so that their bathroom design fits in with the rest of their home and their lifestyle.
Q
What are your customers’ most frequent questions or concerns?
A
Design is a big concern. Customers who can benefit from a walk-in tub don’t want it to look like an eye sore. So, I work with them to figure out how to incorporate modern design elements into the space. We might add natural stone around the tub or a modern tile pattern. I work to make sure whatever we choose is functional but also beautiful.
Q
Are there any bathroom remodeling trends unique to your market?
Q
Do you have a favorite remodel project? What makes it stand out?
A
The transitional trend is really popular. Because it’s a mix between contemporary and traditional, it goes well with many other design styles to fit their home. Whites and grays are popular. And we’re in the desert, so many of my clients’ homes have a “southwest” style. We update that look to incorporate modern design elements.
A
Q
Are there any functional or techy trends popular among your customers?
There are two, actually. Most recently, I worked with a family who needed a better solution for their child with a disability. He loved the water, and splashing in the tub but he was soaking the entire bathroom! We designed a walk-in shower with high walls, waterproof wainscoting and minimal glass for safety. It was completely functional and they didn’t have to worry about damage to the drywall. It was a feel-good project for me because the family was able to give their son a safe space to play.
A
Definitely! Clients are interested in Moen hands-free faucets, steam showers, and smart technology such as adjustable temperature and timer functions in the shower. ADA-compliant products are also gaining traction, especially among more mature clients. Motion activated faucets and lighting, and roll up vanities are popular requests.
The other was a client who had collected bathroom remodeling estimates for more than two years. She’d talked to more than a dozen companies. People don’t enjoy remodeling because it’s not convenient. Beyond price, they’re worried about how long their lives will be disrupted. She was worried that her bathroom would be gutted and then sit, unusable until the next contractor could get there. The fact that we don’t subcontract and that we can complete a bathroom remodel in just a few consecutive days was a deciding factor for her. She felt very comfortable with me and we won the project. I went to see her after her bathroom was finished and she gave me the biggest hug! The bottom line for me is that I want to help people, I want to give them complete functionality and a beautiful space. That, to me, is the best feeling.
