MANNHEIM | GERMANY what is all this snake thing about?
Starting with a typical Mannheim block, which encloses space inside We broke this block alowing to run away the bounded space, but it’s not already possible to make it useful mixing public space with semi-public through lineality
Our project twists delimiting spaces without closing, giving them unique and individual character through lineality
Breaking orthogonality to connect with preexisting planning and neighbourhood
Pavement mixtures A zone with B zone and is useful for gradating space with surroundings
Inserting green zones with wood-staying zones to humanize our ways and squares
Let’s crack the snake to allow relationship between this delimited spaces
Breaking this bridge to conect the surrounding area and generate living spaces in the middle
By extruding the final point from our project we get a counterpoint for Turmtower
We throw a bridge to the other side of the planning, over the railtrain, giving it enough wide to forget about a simple gateway
and what about the historical buildings?
Using the planned cut in one of the factories due to the new avenue between A and B zones, we insert a new piece to allow us to construct a concert room. This piece can be closed or open as we need. In this factory we place too a couple of music rehersal rooms
In the other factory, in best terms of maintaince, we just place a market using such a big space and flexibility.
housing!
Azone buildings in detail. 5 floors and unique residential use, with parking half-buried in basement
how does it feel to live in Mannheim?
Living-types. 1,2,3 bedrooms in each case. Every corridor conects two flats per floor
Corridors slice our building section

During summer isolation is avoided thanks to this double enclosure at midday, and opening the outer glazing the overheating is lost. With vertical slats we can stop later sunrays and control lighting
In winter isolation stays in our home radiating to the inside from the closed-balcony. With slats we can control lighting without losing the heating direct income Air renovation changing temperatures between inside-outside to keep comfort athmosphere As in other buildings in Mannheim we decided to use geothermical superficial foundations losing the heating direct income
