Mobile Devices RULE THE FUTURE OF ONLINE SEARCH

It was noted that most searches are done using a mobile phone today. A survey shows that over 60 percent of searches are recorded to have come from a mobile device. This figure isn’t surprising at all because an estimated 62.9 percent of the total population already have a mobile phone and is expected to rise to 67 percent by 2019. Google believed that people are lured in using a mobile device in searching the web than a desktop and laptop computers because of speed and convenience. And 89 percent of these people are more likely to recommend a product or a site after a positive experience using mobile phones. Another interesting discovery shows 76 percent of searchers who uses smartphones to look for some local services or products visit the shop within a day.

There are a lot of advantages in using a mobile device when searching online, and it keeps increasing. As the dominating medium for online search, Google is expected to give more emphasis and effort in enhancing the mobile search features on its quest for providing an excellent user experience. Google previously refined its mobile feature by adding and refashioning certain elements to add more usability. These changes include Site link carousels, AMP or Accelerated Mobile Pages, Showcase Shopping Ads, Purchases on Google, Voice Search, etc. Also, they tried to give more value to mobile devices by implementing the mobile first index and removing Google Instant.

Recently, Google confirmed that it is testing yet another feature on the mobile search result page. The first format shows “more result” link that appears at the bottom after a few search result is displayed. By clicking on the link, Google will display more organic and relevant result. The second format shows a featured snippet displaying more image and search suggestions. However, there is no formal report yet about when or whether this will be rolled out or not. Overall, it is fitting that webmasters and site owners give significant attention to mobile searches. But that doesn’t mean that desktop searches are no longer relevant today. You just need to be flexible and dynamic to take care of mobile search factors without completely neglecting desktop search. A gentle reminder from Rand Fishkin, “mobile didn’t kill desktop; it just killed all our free time.”
