ost people use a search engine in finding a particular service or product as it is the most convenient and the fastest way to get information on the web. As an online entrepreneur, you must accept the fact that the success of your business is highly dependent on your online presence. And one way to establish this is by having a good SEO strategy.
SEO is a moving target as it continually changes. To cope with this, you must be consistent in updating, modifying, and replacing your SEO technique.
What you only need to do is to monitor your site’s statistics periodically and always take note of the updates that a search engine does. We already know what to do to maintain a good ranking in the SERP or Search Engine Results Page.
We have the do’s, but what about the don’ts? Therefore, it is significantly important for a webmaster and online business owner to know what are the things that they should not do. One thing that most webmasters do is focus on keywords and create a site content full of those words. They primarily aim for good ranking and forget about creating a rich content. As seen on certain websites, they create one page per keyword specifically in local pages. It is vital that you create content that would be valuable to searchers. Something that could give them a precise description of what the company is about and what can the company offer. As mentioned in my previous blog, your primary target as an online business is to create a sale and not just merely rank in SERP.
Another thing that some webmasters give too much attention are the Google updates. We never know when Google will say “Everything is perfect now”. Updates will keep on going and going considering the dynamic behaviour of searchers and the influence of current trends. Do not focus too much on how your site will cope with the changes to a point where your site’s primary purpose is neglected. It is, of course, important to take note of Google’s updates but there should be a balance between the two.
In one of my previous articles, I also stressed that Google’s job is to provide excellent user experience while your role as an online business owner is to generate income. You need to focus more on the main reason why you exist. Images also play a vital role in capturing searchers attention. Some webmasters don’t give much importance to images and just put it in there as a supplement to the page. Inserting a high-quality image of a product is vital as it will better describe the item.
Some practices that webmasters do in the past is trick Google to rank better in the SERP. One example is exploiting fake reviews; another is using AMP or Accelerated Mobile Pages as teaser pages. It may have worked before, but note that Google doesn’t only care about creating updates on its algorithm. Maintaining a fair fight between websites is also one of its consideration. SEO is complicated if you don’t have the right strategy. It is therefore vital for online entrepreneurs to have a careful deliberation on how they can attain their goal by identifying the things that they should avoid.
