Iceland August 2010
Iceland I’d been thinking about this trip for years; combining the pleasure of horseback riding with the exploration of wild natural landscapes. Varying from volcanic moonscapes to lush greenscapes, Iceland is certainly a beautiful country. My trip began with several days in Reykjavik; exploring the town and going on a tour to visit the “Golden Circle" in Icealnd’s south: Pingvellir National Park, Gullfoss waterfall and the geyser Geysir. Then onto horseback in the far north of Iceland in the Lake Myvatn area near Akureyri. Over the following 6 days we followed the Laxa Salmon River, stopping off at Dimmuborgir lava fields, Hverarond boiling mud pools, soaking sore muscles in geothermal outdoor pools and visiting Gooafoss waterfall before then hopping on a (whale) watching boat. It was an incredible experience; meeting wonderful people, riding the Icelanic horse (learning to tolt!) and exploring such beautiful landscapes.

Incredible landscapes, great horseriding and also special moments with some wonderful people: Susanna, Sophie, Sven, Inger, Camilla, Benony, Kolla, Laurence, Lisa, Didier, Jowie, Siggi, Sika, Steini and Steina. And of course some very special horse-companions whose names I could never pronounce!
