02 LONG TERM LET This property needed a complete refurbishment and the client left the design concept entirely open as long as it suited it’s function as a long term let flat. The design was modern and mostly neutral throughout with the use of dark colours in places to create interest and atmosphere. This flat was featured in Scotland on Sunday 02/06/19. 04 CREATIVE CONNECTIONS This co-working space for creatives was my fourth year major project. From research and personal experience I found that creative graduates suffer from a lack of support, lack of experience and isolation. This co-working space could tackle these issues and give graduates the opportunity to begin their career.

Long Section

Ground Floor Entry Level Exhibition Space (left) The ground floor is open to the public and is an exhibition and display space. The work is showcased on the display poles which are adaptable.

Concept Sketches

Collaborating is crucial to success for the graduates therefore forming the concept of connectivity and the name creative connections. I have cut through the floors diagonally ensuring each space is connected and have kept each floor as open plan as possible. A steel and glass wall was added allowing natural light to flood in and also gives the ability to see the water, ground and sky on each floor making you feel grounded and connected to nature.

Inside the building I chose mostly raw materials such as concrete, wood and metal, this gives the feeling of being unfinished and a work in progress which is reflected in the graduates. Although, I have used some pops of colour throughout as it is said to encourage creativity and it is also important to me as a designer to include bold colour in an interior.

Lower Ground Floor Multi-Use Space

Lower Ground Floor Multi-Use (above, right) This has a bar which may encourage the public to spend more time in the building and can also be used for networking events and client meetings which are very important for the graduates to connect with others.

Booth Frame Seating This booth seating was designed to fit the larger glass box in the lower ground floor. I designed this so that there would be pattern and colour seen from the exterior as well.

13

First Floor Co-Working Space (left) The display poles encourage graduates to discuss the work on display and interact with each other and there is also a glass box that can be used for meetings or phone calls. To the back of the room is a coffee station which would also encourage interactions and there is a small make space and printer room.

Booth Frame Seating This booth seating design was to fit the glass boxes. These will also create interest from the exterior and are in keeping with the design scheme.

14

Second Floor Break Out Space (left) The breakout space provides a place for the graduates to come and interact socially. It features a bar and a pool table, which will bring people together.

15

Roof Terrace (left) The break out space continues above on the roof terrace. The space has a sheltered seating area and also the booth frames that I designed for the glass boxes have also been used up here. You can also see the adjoining flats courtyard from up here giving a visual connection to the neighbours.

16

The exterior of the building (left) that faces the water has a modern contrast to its Art Deco facade but complements it, and the flats beside it. All of the elements in this building should encourage progress for new graduates and take them to the next step in their lives.

05 TINY HOME This 25sqm tiny home is fully self sustainable and is powered mostly by optimising human activity for energy use. This is done through movement, food waste and body heat. Power is also gained from the wind turbine and rain water is collected. All materials used are sustainable, durable and cost effective.
