“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but
to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style”
Maya Angelo’s quote stands out. This is not just because it holds a positive message that
promotes a passionate way of living, but it also emphasizes the importance of thriving rather
than simply surviving. In all aspects of my life,
I recall this life mission and bring it into practice.

DE SI G N PO RTF O LIO
I realized that this was a feeling I wanted others to experience as well. After serving six years in
the United States Air Force, I made the decision to pursue my dream of working in the design field by moving to Alabama so I may attend
Auburn University’s Interior Design Program.
While I loved my job as a Loadmaster in the Air Force, I knew that my true calling was design.
I truly enjoy creative problem solving and finding
innovative design solutions. And, though no design is new design, I am so inspired by others and enjoy
finding innovative ways to reinvent a concept. I strive to make each design unique and personal to the user because I understand the influence our
environment holds over our mood and overall wellbeing. With great design, we may envelop people
in feelings of positivity that uplift the spirit. With this, I see creating beautiful designs as a way for me to passionately make the world a better place.

09 February 2018 RE: Becca Stinson To Whom It May Concern: It is my pleasure to recommend Becca Stinson for any opportunities that you may have. I have worked with her for over a year in two capacities; she was a student in the sophomore classes I taught 2016-2017, and in 2017 she worked for me as an interior design intern when I served as Campus Interior Designer in Facilities Management at Auburn University. In class, Becca fully participated, was professional in her comportment, and asked thoughtful and challenging questions. She actively contributed to class discussions, and her deliverables were consistently on time and of high quality. She is well-liked by her peers, and she became an informal peer leader when working on group projects.
8
In practice, Becca is a rare combination of thoughtful, creative, and incredibly detail-oriented. She applies herself fully, and invests in whatever project she works on. She is reliable, and has worked with me on a variety of prestigious projects. Recently she was entrusted with working on developing graphics for a project in the Office of the President at Auburn University. Becca actively listened, diligently worked to assimilate the necessary information, and produced excellent drawings for presentation to the Auburn University President and First Lady.
DE SI G N PO RTF O LIO
One of Becca greatest assets is her belief in the “growth mindset”. Most people avoid identifying—or even thinking about—their weaknesses, and primarily focus on their enhancing their strengths. While Becca works on refining the skills she’s confident in, she also actively seeks to identify her “blind spots” so that she can become the best designer possible. Because of this, she approaches projects from a strategic standpoint: not only does she research the client’s needs and explore opportunities to innovatively fulfill the programming requirements, she also endeavors to hone her skillset and develop herself on each project. I recommend Becca Stinson for any opportunities you may have available. I’m positive that she would be an asset, and due to the diligence and hard work that I have consistently seen her execute, I believe she deserves any opportunities you may have available. If you would like to discuss this further, please contact me at 334-703-4970 or at annaruth@auburn.edu . Sincerely,

Hand-painted, half-inch squares were applied to a 31 x 47 foam board. The final design was composed of

DESIGN CONCEPT The Red Rabbit’s design marries client Jean-George’s East Coast fine dining with California’s laid-back yet energetic personality. Design elements exude a lively ambiance through use of eclectic furniture, bold art and a
contrasting color pallet as this theme is directly inspired by Jean-George’s exotic and playful menu. The Red
Rabbit’s flexible design will allow for smooth transitions
between day-time dining and a relaxed nightlife by use of floor-to-ceiling windows and adjustable lighting.

relocated to the the center of the home,
the kitchen is now adjacent to the exterior
wall, offering the space more natural light.
B O T T O M R I G H T : To provide
Greg additional closed-storage the design offers floor-to-ceiling storage. This is not
only complimentary to the kitchen’s design. The custom storage is conveniently located next to the entry for storage of Sally’s dog items and Greg’s weather gear.
Additional Notes: Our team of 4
students completed all class requirements
for this project in addition to submitting an alternate design proposal with the stairs
located at the center of home. Displayed are only final items from the alternate
design proposal. Greg enjoyed the design proposals and, after deliberations, did
choose the design elements curated by our team.

INSPIRATION
Fireflies embody real-life magic and playful movement. Arlo Midtown’s design marries
these attributes of the firefly with luxurious materials and finishes to create a space
filled with enchanting design moments and a playful energy by way of thoughtful
materials specification and lighting design.

DESIGN
MATERIALS L E F T : The design pallet curated for the main spaces pairs contrasting textures and colors while green is used to highlight key design features.

R I G H T : The top image displays the
lounge rendering from the hotel livingroom.
Just as fireflies glow, the sputnik chandeliers add to the relaxing atmosphere as evening approaches.
The image below shows the livingroom’s bar elevation. The custom perforated metal design allows for dramatic design, but
doesn’t limit views. The bar features green velvet panels, black marble bar tops and gold metallic details.

ATRIUM WALL The custom perforated metal is used to accent the five exposed elevator
shafts that extend below to the public lounge space and custom overhang. Goals of the Atrium’s design are to prevent view obstructions and act as a backdrop to the space’s custom lighting installation.
MAIN FLOOR SPACE PLANNING
An orchestra of fireflies dance throughout the atrium’s volume at the top of the hour,
every hour. The fireflies illuminate the space by use of coordinating projection systems covertly installed throughout the atrium’s mass.
This enchanting moment will be experienced from multiple guest perspectives, but creates a singular collective experience for everyone present, 24 times a day.

a simple touch. With Arlo, guests have the option to
check-in through their phone or at the kiosks. These kiosks also provide a platform to offer concierge information and local map services.
ARTIST INFORMATION The photographs displayed on the kiosks above are by Dutch Photographer, Hendrik Kerstens. Kerstens’
portrait photography playfully refers to works from the Italian Renaissance and Dutch Old Masters. The
portraits use everyday items as props, clothing and wigs to cleverly remind us to never be too serious.

63 CORRIDOR DESIGN T O P R I G H T : The corridor’s design offers
an enchanting atmosphere as guests head to their rooms. Material choice and lighting design make
the space reminiscent of dusk when fireflies come out to play.
B O T T O M R I G H T : Approaching the
room entry, the gold room number placard attracts the eye as it’s mounted against the black velvet upholstered wall. This detail not only aids with
wayfinding but continues the perforated metal
detail, from the public spaces, on a smaller scale. Tools: AutoCad, SketchUp, PhotoShop & Illustrator
THE GUEST ROOM The material pallet curated for
the guest room is similar to that
of the main space with a greater emphasis on natural materials. The custom headwall design,
featuring wood, acts as a playful backdrop to the bold color
pallet of the space. The room’s lighting design is playful and relaxing.
Custom furniture, shown right, accommodates for the room’s size. The wardrobe provides
