CLIENT ANALYSIS Designer Sadie Williams graduated with an MA from Central Saint Martins in 2013. Selfridges noticed her talent and became one of their 2013 ‘Bright New Things’. Selfridges have continued to back her work giving her the opportunity to create a collection to sell in store; her MA collection was also displayed in their Oxford Street window, which she helped create due to having a small team. Since then she has collaborated with Barbie designing a range of dresses for the dolls, sold exclusively in Selfridges toy department. Williams also created a successful collection for & Other Stories, sold online and in store prices from £45-£195. Sadie’s main line is available worldwide online priced from £500£3000. Sadie Williams began her own PR for her brand as well designing her own collection and working freelance for other designers; JW Anderson and Marc Jacobs. This shows her diversity and the opportunities allowed her to develop as a designer. The collections are presented at London Fashion Week in the NEWGEN installation space due to sponsoring the brand. Williams does not currently have the budget for advertising but her work is often featured in high-end fashion magazines in editorial pieces. Based in London, Williams specialises in print and textiles and has created her own embossing techniques, which set her apart from other designers. Williams’ work takes a lot of time and intensive labour in order to get the garments to the highest standard. The collections are between ten and twenty pieces each. Her work is tailored towards feminine tomboys due to its fun and youthful nature. She believes it’s important as a designer that she stays true to herself and each collection shows her evolution as a designer. 42 Gloucester Avenue London NW1 8JD 020 7722 2801

CLIENT ANALYSIS Strengths

Weaknesses

• Selfridges ‘Bright New Thing’ 2013 • Newgen designer, support and funding • Unique

• Her work may only have a slim audience • Handmade garments take up a lot of time • The garments are also very labour intensive due to the techniques used • No budget for advertising • High cost to make garments

Opportunities

Threats

• Backing from Selfridges gave the opportunity for further exclusive collections for the store • Freelances for major design houses so her work can be shown and allows development

• If she doesn’t make clothes for commercial use she may lose money • Other brands could make something similar but using technology rather than hand making each piece for bulk production

PROMOTION CONCEPT Sadie Williams has had successful collections for Selfridges and & Other Stories. The NEWGEN designer gains support from Topshop as sponsor and helps fund her exhibitions for collections. Due to Topshop’s support for Williams’ brand a collection for the store would work very well. The collection will consist of dresses, tops, skirts and trousers ranging from £50- £190. The collection would be a more affordable way for consumers to access the brand and have one-off pieces by the up and coming designer. The collection will allow for the brand to become more commercial and sell to another audience. The collection will still be of good quality, due to the lower prices compared to Sadie’s main collection the pieces won’t be hand made but the pieces will have digital printing on them with Sadie’s exclusive designs for Topshop. The collection will be placed in Topshop stores around the UK, with the Oxford Street store holding the launch party to celebrate the collection with a wide range of industry professionals, models and trend setters invited to try the collection and view and share it. The store would have exclusive window displays to celebrate the event and advertise it to the public. The collection will be released to coincide with London Fashion Week in September 2016 to showcase the one off spring collection for Topshop. The event would still stay true to the brand as well as reflecting who Topshop are as a brand and a way of celebrating new British talent. 42 Gloucester Avenue London NW1 8JD 020 7722 2801
