STUDIO PRACTICE Project Proposal Name Rebecca Williamson http://r-‐williamson1316sp.blogspot.co.uk/ Date 29th January Rationale I want to create work that focuses on the older generation of our society. I want to bring awareness to the fact that many older people suffer from loneliness and isolation, making viewers think about someone elderly in their family, or even a stranger, which will hopefully encourage them to visit, call, or even volunteer as a ‘befriender’ (Age UK Campaign). I hope to personally communicate with elderly people, finding out about their story and life, which I could communicate within my drawings, therefore showing that each person is an individual with an interesting past. From previous projects I have undertaken, especially COP 3, I have found success in my practice heavily relies on myself personally connecting to the issue at hand, when I have this passion and strong opinions towards a subject I find I become a lot more invested into the project and I produce work to the best of my ability. I also enjoy producing work that could influence a positive reaction within society. Themes / Subjects Loneliness Vulnerability Individualism Sharing life experiences / storytelling Documentary Audience / Context Willing volunteers People who are perhaps lonely themselves 18+ Families who could offer their company (invite round for dinner) Products / Methods of Distribution
A set of prints (3-‐4) of different elderly people combined with elements of their life. These could exist as poster ads, magazine ad etc. in places to attract potential volunteers and those who have elderly relatives to take action and consider talking/visiting them. -‐Could be used by Age UK to promote their ‘be-‐friend’ campaign.

Willam.H 2004. What Are Old People For? By geriatrician William H. Thomas who served, for a period of time, as the official geriatrician of this blog and for whom I continue to be grateful for his untiring advocacy on behalf of elders. "...practically speaking, there is no elderhood into which we can be admitted. This absence cannot be described as a careless oversight. We live in a society that denies the legitimacy of old age and has little tolerance for those who dare to suppose that crones and sages could inspire us as models of healthy human development." - See more at: http://www.timegoesby.net/weblog/the-best-books-onaging.html#sthash.wUGjBMYS.dpuf
