development of adding colour

Page 1

Experimenting with adding coloured ink to the printing plates, below are examples of my first attempts with combining colours, however I don’t think the colours stand out enough and are dull together which doesn't’t connote the feeling of fun, nonsense and imagination.

Though I’m not entirely happy with this print, I think the use of 3 colours instead of 2 work much better and is more bold and ‘fun’.

Experimenting with bolder colours.

I have used similar colours to achive a gradient effect instead of randomly placing opposite colours together to avoid clashing which isn't nice on the eye. I have also adding the colours in a slightly different way than the fit colour prints I attempted, this time I used a different card to place each colour on to avoid mixing the colours together, this way the colours stayed in the designated areas and remained pure.

This is still the print I am least happy with, I think I will print this again and will add a brighter colour such as yellow to liven it up a bit. I also find this print the least bold, I feel it lacks deep lines, I may try and engrave more lines into the etch but I fear this will ruin the aready etched lines.

First print with colour- I liked but wanted to improve on where I added the colours to make a stronger contrast and bolder colours

Again I have used a gradient of colours, however because I liked how the purple and yellow sat together on the last print I randomly added this in-between the gradient

I prefer the placement of colour on this print than the first one, however I feel I may have added to much colour which takes away from the back lines. I want my prints to be predominantly moncrome, with a dash of colour to symbolise a burst of magic and imagination.
