Get your heart broken so your art improves
Get your heart broken so your art improves Let the pain that steeps in your heart thaw,

drizzle, drip down into your fingertips and out onto the page in rainbows of emotions, trailing behind you on the street in streams that replace those of dried tears on your cheeks. Let each stroke of your pen push away the memories that still sting, memories of eternal December, of short-circuited string lights above a twin sized bed, occupied by two bodies made one, remember how the snowfall sparkled – but brown eyes don’t shine in moonlight. Is it worth it? Pain, because my poems don’t bite as hard without hearing her voice through your door or seeing you smile at a sun I don’t see. Maybe moving on is a homicide of the muse, but worse, a suicide of the soul. Get your heart broken because it is in art, really, where misery finds its solace, where pain erupts in color, and where suffering is a sunrise.

you know I brought my shovel to the beach and I wanted to dig to China and it was hot under the red sun and I dug a hole, and my mom said she was proud of me, and that I should let all the kids use my shovel so we could all go to China and I elected to do so because I love my mom and I trust my mom, but none of us got to China and as the red sun set we all sat in our shallow traps and my mom lied, she did not want me to get to China, she did not want things to change.
