We founded Rebel Athletic over 5 years ago with the hope that our unique approach to design, service, quality, choice and value would resonate with gym owners, coaches, athletes and cheer parents around the globe. Since then we’ve continued to innovate based on your needs and strived to exceed your expectations at every turn. We’ve been called disruptors by some and trailblazers by others. One thing is clear; our design teams are setting the key fashion trends for Allstar Cheerleading and we are immensely proud to be the company that others in the industry look to for inspiration, ideas and innovation. Our 2018 Couture Lookbook, “Rebel in London” has been our largest and most rewarding production to date. Like our Paris book, “Rebel in London” was produced entirely in-house over 5 long days, with a cast and crew of 40 talented models, photographers, stylists, make-up artists, location scouts, assistants, videographers and chaperones. This year we cast both American and British Cheerleaders and photographed at iconic landmarks in London, England. We hope this collection of Rebel Luxury Couture Concept Uniforms sparks your creativity and brings a smile to your face. Vice President OF DESIGN AT REBEL ATHLETIC While unpacking and organizing the Couture Uniforms in the model’s London flat I had such a feeling of pride envelop me. Rebel does truly have the most creative Fashion Designers in the Allstar industry. It can seem so effortless the way ideas get transformed into breathtaking uniforms, but the love and talent that goes into these designs is simply incredible. #RebelInLondon was no doubt going to be our most exciting project to date, and I couldn’t wait! Embracing the unique fashion history of London acted as the basis for this collection. We drew inspiration from historical Elizabethan fashion, punk rock of the ‘70s, architecture, and even the Spice Girls! I hope that as you travel through our 2018 Rebel in London Lookbook you share in our enjoyment and thrill at all the unique uniforms, locations, and photos taken by our amazing team! When we decided on London for our next couture location, Gordon Steinecke, Vice President of Design, immediately knew he wanted to design something inspired by one of his favorite historical figures, Queen Elizabeth I. Fierce, powerful, and quite the Rebel herself, Elizabeth I was the epitome of Tudor fashion. Her wardrobe was full of gowns with insanely ornate embellishments that evoked feelings of fantasy with their intense styling. (Very similar things that Rebel’s uniforms have become known for as well!) Drawing his inspiration from her Gordon set out to create his version of true Rebel Royalty. A uniform with gorgeous crystal details, unique period touches, the perfect crown, and to finish it off he stitched a dramatic, long velvet robe complete with our own Rebel coat of arms! You can never skimp on the details!

Rebel Designer Alex Ells decided to capture a subtle version of royalty by combining the look of ceremonial robes with traditional military embellishments in her design. “I created this uniform with the hope that all women would be able to reign sovereign over their own lives so that they could make their own decisions and live the way they want to,� said Alex.

Taylor Rawson... she wakes up like Snow White! —Ava
From what I remember I don’t think many of us were very happy in the mornings. Taylor Rawson usually does a good job at it though. —Katia Jalen, the younger girls always were more energetic in the mornings. —Hope Gabi was usually always the happy one that was listening to music in the morning. —Cortney I’m pretty sure I was the morning person, haha! —Taylor Gabi Butler is definitely a morning person. She was always awake and getting ready before everyone else woke up! —Kiara
What was it like staying in the model house? I had a lot of fun staying in the model house. All of the girls were very sweet, and I made friends with them quickly because we basically lived together for a week. It was awesome! —Kiara It was really fun staying in the model house; you got to bond with other models! —Jade
The model house was chaos but I love being so close with my Rebel fam! —Cortney
It was a lot of fun. Almost like having a sleepover with your best friends every single night! —Hope
It felt a little chaotic and so very messy. The hardest part is when you have to go to sleep for an early morning wake up and others are running around slamming doors and yelling. —Katia The model house was hectic but fun! —Taylor
What time did you have to get up to be ready to shoot? I mostly got up to get ready to shoot around 4 or 5am. —Cortney 4am every day. —Katia Our call time was pretty early, so I think it must’ve been about 6am. —Darcy I usually shot mid-day or at night so I didn’t have to wake up early except for the last day, which I had to be up at 4am! —Jade 4:30am was the earliest I got up and 9:30am was the latest. There are different call times each day. —Ava I usually woke up between 4:30am and 8am. —Taylor

MODELS TELL ALL! How long did it take to get hair and makeup done? Any stories?
It took about an hour and a half to get my hair and makeup done. I actually fell asleep while Bridget was doing my makeup because her brushes are so soft lol. —Cortney
It didn’t take too long, maybe about an hour? The glam team made it go pretty quick, they were so funny! While we were getting ready we just had Bodak Yellow on repeat because it got us feeling ready for the shoot. —Darcy
Hair and makeup usually took about an hour and a half to two hours. My funny makeup story would have to be us jamming to old music at 5 am while trying not to wake the other girls. —Hope
Who always fell asleep first?
Makeup and hair took about an hour and a half. I was so excited to get styled with the Arianna Grande-style ponytail this year!! Then I was lucky and got to wear the Rebel Princess Leah buns! Best hair ever and to top it off I got to wear the London makeup palette. Wearing London makeup while in London... AHHHH-MAZING!! — Ava
In my room the first to always fall asleep was Jamie. —Cortney
A long time. I was almost late for every shoot I was in. Either there wasn’t enough time or room for me to get my hair or makeup done so I had to resort to doing it myself and then had problems with hair. Or there were other people who shouldn’t be in the chair who just hopped in line because they were awake and ready. —Katia
Jamie always fell asleep first! —Taylor Honestly everyone’s sleep schedule was a little off. You cannot think of London fashion and not be inspired by the punk subculture of the ‘70s. You just can’t! From the studded leather jackets, silkscreened shirts covered with band logos, heavy chains, and Dr. Martens the punk movement heavily inspired many fashion designers. “I too was inspired to create a hardcore punk look that incorporated all my favorite details from the scene. It being London I also wanted to include the Union Jack in a fun way. Throw in a little lace corset and this girl is totally ready to rock the main stage and headline her own world tour,” said Rebel Vice President of Design, Gordon Steinecke. 42

“I find it quite refreshing to be inspired by a city, especially an iconic city like London,” said Joey Mireles, “The first thing that popped into my head was the Punk Rock Movement and how we were introduced to Glam Rock and Rock ’n’ Roll Fashion. This truly transcended a whole wave of aesthetics that is still in trend today.” The strength and conviction of punk rock established the foundation of Joey’s design which is reflected in the faux crystal belt and stud embellishments. Any girl can wear this and feel empowered.

“When I found out London was our couture location, I immediately knew I wanted to do something punk,” said Grace Velasquez, “Designers such as Vivian Westwood and Alexander McQueen inspired me to design a mashup of what I would imagine a punk cheerleader would design for her own uniform.” The result is this edgy creation, complete with a faux leather moto jacket covered in patches, but also girly and fun elements including lace and TONS of crystals.

Flowers & Lace Designer Allison Mayes was inspired by the organic beauty of flowers as she created this uniform. “I wanted this design to have a lot of organic cutouts that formed the negative space design of flower petals, and of course crystal fill the flowers!” said Allison. The full pleated skirt with the laser cut mystique flowers inside the pleats emphasizes organic movement and makes this uniform a piece of wearable art. 58

Lace was on Maggie Zepeda’s mind when sketching this stunning uniform. This delicate fabric has been used in many garments throughout history from the renaissance to, runway fashion. In order to bring fashion history to the present Maggie accentuates parts of the uniform with lace in crystal form, giving it a modern twist.

The inspiration for this design is bridal with a cheer twist. “I wanted to have a full look that gave you the same delicacy and beauty that the color rose gold gives on its own,� said Deloya Pepe. The mix of filigree, lace, corset back, damask, and crystal neckline are all soft elements that can be found on a wedding dress and together with the addition of rose gold create an effortless beauty. I had so many people ask me if I was from Texas just by hearing me talk. —Cortney Yes. It took just one “y’all”, and all the Londers I met asked me to talk Texan. —Ava No one really said anything about my American accent...probably because I was practicing my British accent constantly! —Kiara Yes! All the time! lol —Sophia Nobody commented on my accent! —Taylor
Yeah a lot of the girls really loved it, and wanted us to teach them loads of English words! But I thought all their different accents were really cool too. —Darcy
What’s your favorite thing that you brought back with you? My favorite thing I brought home was my London sweatshirt from a corner store! —Taylor My favorite thing that I brought back with me are my memories of the trip! I created lifelong friendships with the girls, and we had some amazing experiences in London. —Kiara My favorite thing I brought back with me was actually all the memories and new friendships I made. —Cortney My favourite thing is probably the Rebel Against Bullying jumper (sweatshirt) with the rose gold writing, because it’s a clear message of what Rebel stands for and a really important one too. It’s also really comfy, I wear it a lot! —Darcy My favorite thing I brought back from London was all of the memories and new friendships. —Jade That we all had a great time on the tour bus and sang, laughed and then the farewell dinner was great because, we actually got to have fun with everyone including all the staff. —Lala
Will you please share a funny story or experience from the trip? When I was on set and we were trying to figure out where to shoot I was walking but looking at Big Ben at the same time and ran into a phone booth so we just stopped there and shot at that phone booth because it was a good view. Being clumsy comes in handy. ;) —Cortney The best time I had the whole trip was probably the boat cruise. Five of us (Kaylee, Taylor, Cort, Hope, & I) talked about all the years we’ve been together and how much we’ve grown together and stuck together and made really good friendships. —Katia On the last night Kiley and I went with the older girls and danced and had a blast. The boat dinner and everyone singing together and bonding was a blast. —Sophia The Instagram live stream when we were all on the London tour bus was really fun, with everyone singing along to the music that was blasting from a speaker! —Darcy

My funniest moment came from my ice cream shoot. Everyone was laughing as I was balancing the ice cream, the new Rebel Dragon Skin Bag and modeling the new Rebel active wear line while trying to eat the ice cream fast enough so it wouldn’t drip on the clothes. I would get a brain freeze which just made me laugh even harder during the shoot. —Ava A funny experience that was small was me and Cortney were walking down the stairs early at 4:30 AM for makeup and then she slipped down the stairs and I was cracking up at her but then two steps later I fell down too and it was super funny and something I’ll always remember. :) —Taylor Funny story was when we got to house and we heard a thump and someone said “I’m ok I just fell down the stairs!” —Lala

Karina Garza was also heavily influenced by the Spice Girls, but she’s quick to clarify that, for her, inspiration never comes from just one place.
“It can never be one thing for me for creation is always a thread: its everything I see, everywhere I go, and even what music I’m listening to. You see, as a designer for Rebel Athletic, many of my visions and inspirations are based on admiration of the brand itself and what it stands for,” said Karina. On this uniform full British flag made entirely of crystals covers the skirt while an intricate basket weave covers the full back.

“As most girls growing up in the 90’s I loved the Spice Girls and when I think of England they are one of the first things that come to mind,” said Kristen Scott. According to Kristen. Ginger Spice’s Union Jack dress is one of the most iconic looks of that time, so she wanted to create something that was inspired by that outfit without simply recreating Ginger’s look. To do this Kristen incorporated the flag by making it the entire sleeve instead of using it on the torso. The open shoulders were a must to keep the sleeves from looking to heavy. In typical Rebel style, she included a cute cut-out back with an appliqué and of course crystals EVERYWHERE because a little sparkle is a good way to Spice Up Your Life! WHERE REBEL MEETS THE RUNWAY

This uniform ironically started as a gymnastics leotard designed by Allison Mayes for Australia. History lesson 101: England colonized Australia so the Australian flag has the Union Jack l on it. Allison transitioned the leotard into an unconventional Allstar uniform by putting the logo on the sleeve and showing off the Union Jack the chest.

Starry Nights
Inspiration for this couture uniform designed by Maggie Zepeda came from a desire to combine the delicate look of lace with the drama of architectural art. “I also wanted to incorporate the atmosphere of London’s night time feel.” said Maggie, “London’s art culture inspired me to add ‘night sky stars’ with crystals similar to Van Gogh’s Starry Night painting, with the crystals not only representing lace but also the sparkle of the night sky.”
RUNWAY READY
“My inspiration for this set was directly from the runways. There were so many different collar shapes from different fashion shows that I wanted to incorporate it to my couture design. After finalizing the collar, everything else—from the colors to the swirls—flowed from there,” said Cherrie Luzon.
Color Pop
Allison Mayes decided to play with a few different types of techniques with this uniform: a crystal mold with only large stones, gathered puff shoulder caps, and crystal bursts blending into each other. The high contrast royal and white color scheme allows the logo to really pop and keeps the focus on the different interesting crystal designs.

In the Moment
“For this uniform, I wanted to capture a moment I experienced one early morning on the beach in Mexico where the sun was just beginning to rise,” said designer Cassie Arnold. Her color scheme was drawn from the golden yellow hues that peaked behind from the clouds, the shimmering pink that reflected off the water, and black from the silhouettes created in the foreground. She wanted to incorporate stars into this design with white sharp lines coming from the cloud lines left behind by airplanes in the sky. “Sketching while being in the moment allows me to incorporate unique elements into my designs that I might not have thought about otherwise without experiencing feelings from an experience,” explained Cassie.

Jet Set
During a flight to The Cheerleading World’s 2017 a magazine article titled, “The 10 Most Historical Cities in the World” caught designer Cassie Arnold’s eye. As she read, her interest was piqued by the second city on the list: Alexandria, Egypt. Ever the creative, Cassie started looking up pictures and pulled out her sketchbook to capture the striking elements of ancient pyramids that inspired her. She chose a dimensional gold color to replicate how the sun reflects on the pyramid walls and the shimmering sands of the bright desert. “Spinning off of these ideas really became the driving factor of my inspiration for this design, particularly the dramatic neckline that becomes the focal point of the uniform,” said Cassie.

LONDON BLACK CABS The stylish black taxi cabs that grace the streets of London are made exclusively for the city by The London Taxi Company. Easily handicap accessible and able to seat 5, not only are these cabs an iconic part of London, but they are also a great way to explore London as many drivers operate as tour guides as well. Many cab drivers offer guided tours of London from the luxury of the backseat of their taxi cabs. While the idea of your cab driver giving you a tour may sound a bit strange, you’ll find that the amount these men and women know about London is staggering, all thanks to their training process, known as The Knowledge. The Knowledge is the in-depth study of London streets, routes, and places that black cab drivers must have memorized before they are allowed to obtain a license. Initiated in 1865, the idea is that black cab drivers should be able to act immediately in deciding which routes to take, where to go in case R E B E L AT H L E T I C C H E E R . C O M
of obstruction, and to be able to accommodate any request or question posed by their passengers. This involves becoming intimately involved with over 25,000 roads and 50,000 points of interest. It’s widely regarded as the most demanding training course for cab drivers anywhere in the world and, on average, it takes around 34 months for a driver to learn all that is needed to pass the final exam. Part of the final exam involves sitting in an empty room and detailing a journey from a randomly selected point to another. The would-be driver needs to list the names of all roads used, junctions crossed, notable roundabouts, when to make turns, and to list which notable buildings are on either side of the road they are taking in their potential route. This means that these cabbies know more than most about Great Britain’s capital city and a surprising amount of the history that comes with it. REBEL IN LONDON

You’ll find the actual crown jewels of England under armed guard in the Jewel House at the Tower of London. These gems are a unique working collection of royal regalia and are still regularly used by The Queen for important national ceremonies, such as the State Opening of Parliament. 106

THE LONDON EYE IS A GIANT FERRIS WHEEL ON THE SOUTH BANK OF THE RIVER THAMES IN LONDON. The structure is 443 feet tall and the wheel has a diameter of 394 feet. When it opened to the public in 2000 it was the world’s tallest Ferris wheel. Supported by an A-frame on one side only, the Eye is described by its operators as “the world’s tallest cantilevered observation wheel”. The Eye has done for London what the Eiffel Tower did for Paris, which is to give it a symbol and to let people climb above the city and look back down on it. Not just specialists or rich people, but everybody. That’s the beauty of it: it is public and accessible, and it is in a great position at the heart of London.

THOUGH IT APPEARS OLD, TOWER BRIDGE IS RELATIVELY NEW BY EUROPEAN STANDARDS. This combined bascule and suspension bridge in London built between 1886 and 1894. The bridge crosses the River Thames close to the Tower of London and has become an iconic symbol of London, resulting in it sometimes being confused with London Bridge, situated a half mile upstream. The bridge consists of two bridge towers tied together at the upper level by two horizontal walkways, designed to withstand the horizontal tension forces exerted by the suspended sections of the bridge on the landward sides of the towers. The vertical components of the forces in the suspended sections and the vertical reactions of the two walkways are carried by the two robust towers. The bascule pivots and operating machinery are housed in the base of each tower. Before its restoration in the 2010s, the bridge’s color scheme dated from 1977, when it was painted red, white and blue for Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee. BIG BEN IS THE NICKNAME FOR THE GREAT BELL OF THE CLOCK AT THE NORTH END OF THE PALACE OF WESTMINSTER IN LONDON... And is usually extended to refer to both the clock and the clock tower. The tower is officially Elizabeth Tower, renamed to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II in 2012; before that, it was known simply as the Clock Tower. The clock has become a cultural symbol of the United Kingdom, particularly in the visual media. A four-year renovation of the clock and tower began on 21 August 2017, which is why you might notice scaffolding surrounding it in some of our photos.

LEAKE STREET GRAFFITI TUNNEL Deep beneath Waterloo Station, a dismal, disused tunnel has, since 2008, enjoyed a new lease of life as an ever changing, unofficial, art gallery. Leake Street is a road tunnel in Lambeth, London where graffiti is tolerated regardless of the legal complications. The street is about 300 meters long, runs off York Road and under the platforms and tracks of Waterloo station. Many believe it represents the best of London’s street art scene, and because new artists are constantly adding their mark, a visit here is never exactly the same.
