The Human Pretzel in Model Form By Anna Quigley and Katrina Doherty
When somebody says act natural, it’s automatic to strike the most unnatural pose thinkable. Imagine somebody striking these outrageous positions on purpose, trying to make it look fashionable. These are models. If somebody was to look at these poses, not knowing that they were done by models, they’re laughable. When models hold this posture, they are trying to make the newly accepted society again feel like outsiders. Society is used to models simply smiling and putting their hands on their hip and average humanly postures. People still look up to models today, but models have changed. They do unnatural poses revealing more and more how abnormal they really are.
The dictionary definition of model is a standard or example for imitation or comparison. As models continue to show more and more skin and use more and more photoshop materials, how can you compare yourself to Barbie? If you were seen striking the poses as shown in the pictures, society would judge you for it even though they created these crazy poses.
You are beYOUtiful. XOXO!

Social Media Trying to Perfect Teens By Haley Jones and Sydnei Washington
Social Media Targeting Teens? Many social media sites condone ideas of needing to change
you. These
apps do such things knowing that their main users are the teenage
population.
Stereotypically if someone were to look at the average teen girl she is
glued to her
phone and social media. It could almost be predicted that the teen
population is
being targeted. Sites such as Instagram have come out with “Sponsored Instagram Ads” these ads aren’t what everyone expected them to be. On famous accounts in which thousands of people follow will display ads such as this (on the right) provoking girls to lose weight or change eating habits with a thin tea detox. Sounds not completely horrifying, right? Well the thin tea detox really consists of appetite suppressants which will cause girls to eat less and become unhealthy. Photo filtering apps, not so harmless after all? A new app called “Perfect 365” has been released and is reaching the top charts on the App Store. This app allows people to change almost any physical aspect on your face such as adding make up. This app takes this play make-up innocence to an entirely new level when it gives people the ability to change the shape of their face and even make their eyes larger! A young child who is looking for a fun new game to play on their iPod touch and comes across this app is now being taught that them as who they are isn’t good enough and that make up needs to be added before the image is acceptable.
Instagram Issues With most social media sites having over 18 filters, the world has become filled with people who believe that they need filters to make themselves look beautiful. The creators of most
Social media
sites have gotten an idea in there head that everyone needs filters and in
reality we
don’t . Over 90 percent of Instagram users believe that this is true but
they need to
know they don't have to hide behind the black-and-white filter there
beautiful just
the way they are. Is this what the teenage world has come to? Society is
conforming us
to not being beautiful as we are now guess what now you are absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!! Hashtag central People are using social media to believe that they are exactly what social media says them to be. Why do we buy into such travesty these are some of the top ways that they do so. (Negative Hashtags {top used}: #ugly 8,784,435 #fatty 2,897,833 posts #hateme 178,880 #hatemyself 132,497 posts #wishiwasher 21,843 #fatthighs 16,324). All of this is all wrong because what you look like right now is beautiful because that is you. know that beauty does not know looks but knows who you are beauty is not what is on the outside it is deeper than that. Remember beauty is not skin deep it is on the inside of you. Don't take the two times in your life you see yourself through a picture and in the mirror ruin your confidence. look in the mirror and tell your self “I am who I am and that makes me beautiful.
Take a Time-Out for Self-Care and Compassion Life can be stressful. Especially for teens. Take time to be compassionate to yourself. This may include setting aside time to read your favorite book, catch up on TV shows, or take a nap. Or maybe you want to escape from the pressures and stress of life through by treating yourself to a “spa day. You can accomplish this without expensive treatments, and without professional help. These few remedies you can concoct in the comfort of your own house. You are worth it! 1. You can purchase your own favorite color of nail polish at a local supermarket. All under your control, you can give yourself or friends a flawless manicure or pedicure! There are endless design possibilities. Think of your nails as an empty canvas waiting to be created. 2.
You can invent a nourishing face mask for your skin type. o
Here is a homemade mask recipe for oily skin: 3 tbsp. banana 1 tsp. honey a few drops of lemon juice. Mix these ingredients until they form a smooth paste. Apply to your face and neck for 20 minutes, and avoid the eye area! This mask nourishes and hydrates the skin, absorbs moisture, and exfoliates dead skin cells.
o
Here is a mask for those with dry skin: 3 tablespoons of dry oats, with one tablespoon each of honey and milk in a blender, and blend until formed into a paste. Apply with clean hands, and smear on clean skin until dry (about 15 minutes). Rinse the hardened mask off gently with warm water. Always moisturize afterwards to lock in moisture.
3.
Bubble bathes are another natural and relaxing way to feel beautiful. By simply adding shower gel or bath soap, dimming the lights, and turning on a few spa tunes, you can transform your day from drab to fab!
Whether your personal style includes wearing makeup or not, it is certainly not necessary to feel beautiful!
No matter what, your beauty shines from the inside-out. Believe that you are beautiful. Because you are. You are beauty-full.
Human Barbie and Ken By: Abby Quigley
One main effect of low self-esteem is plastic surgery and the need to change yourself. Those who may feel that their body or face doesn’t look the way they want it to may result to getting their body physically altered. The Human Barbie and Ken are a perfect example of this. They have gotten countless procedures done to fit society’s “perfect” man and woman. This shows how society shouldn’t impact the way you think about yourself, but sometimes it does. By simply giving someone a compliment, we could solve this problem, and could get people to feel that they are beautiful just the way they are. After all, there is only one you! “To wish you were someone else is to waste the person you are.” As explained by the quote, you should feel that you are beautiful just the way you are because everybody is different, and that is for the best. If everybody on Earth looked the same, life would be oh so boring. This is a reminder to not change who you are to fit society’s expectations, because in the end, staying true to yourself is the most beautiful thing. Another reason to not use alterations and filters is there is no going back to who you were before! You are worth it!
This world needs you more than you need it. Your positive attitude makes my heart go pitter-pat. Do you know that your body is beautiful?
“For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.”
Real beauty is perfectly imperfect. “You are beautiful, no matter what they say. Words can’t bring you down. Oh no! So don’t let them bring you down today!”
Cut these out and give them to your family and friends to remind them that they are beautiful!
