Gentle listeners and librarians, We greet 2014 with two stellar picture-book biographies as entertaining as they are informative: Josephine: The Dazzling Life of Josephine Baker and On a Beam of Light: A Story of Albert Einstein. We’re also thrilled to welcome the irrepressible EllRay Jakes to our early-chapter-books list with EllRay Jakes Is Not a Chicken! The Grimm Conclusion, Adam Gidwitz’s final take on the classic Grimm fairy tales, is, if possible, even more mordantly funny than its predecessors, A Tale Dark and Grimm and In a Glass Grimmly. And it’s a thrill to have John Flanagan’s latest Ranger’s Apprentice adventure, The Royal Ranger, available exclusively to libraries from Recorded Books. For young listeners who prefer stories grounded in reality, there’s Linda Urban’s moving family drama The Center of Everything and the ever-popular Mike Lupica’s QB 1. For more mature listeners, Rick Yancey concludes his award-winning Monstrumologist series with The Final Descent, and Joelle Charbonneau continues the Testing series with Independent Study. Sharon M. Draper wows us all again with Panic, a look at a teen desperately trying to right her life after making wrong decisions. We’re also delighted to offer The Bane Chronicles. These stories about Magnus Bane, the immortal warlock from Cassandra Clare’s Shadowhunters series, were released in serial form, and Recorded Books is the only place you’ll find all 10 episodes in one collection.
