Dear Librarians, Sun Tzu’s The Art of War has sold millions of copies and been translated into nearly every language on the planet. Books like SEAL Team Six and No Easy Day have become semipermanent fixtures on bestseller lists. What if there was a book that catered to this entire readership? Recorded Books is publishing the exclusive unabridged audio edition of Rob Roy’s The Navy SEAL Art of War: Leadership Lessons from the World’s Most Elite Fighting Force as part of its second-quarter 2015 Development imprint. Now a retired chief petty officer, Roy spent 20 years as a Navy SEAL (including service on the legendary SEAL Team Six) before founding SOT-G, an 80-hour intensive leadership course that uses military combat training to teach executives and managers leadership skills for succeeding in business and life. The $6,000 program has been featured on the Fox Business Network as well as in the Wall Street Journal, Entrepreneur, and Inc. Six thousand dollars? Thanks, but I’ll stick with the bundled CD and OneClickdigital audio editions for $85.70. (And this is also a good place to remind you that all audiobook titles in this catalog are Recorded Books exclusives on OneClickdigital.) On your second-quarter Griot list, look for Wanjiku˜ wa Ngugi’s ˜ The Fall of Saints and Tracy K. Smith’s Ordinary Light to get a ton of press. But don’t be surprised if it’s urban lit authors Noire, Nikki Turner, and Treasure Hernandez who fly off your shelves. Southern Voices has maybe my two favorite books of the season: Diane Thomas’ haunting Amanda Coplin by way of Chris Bohjalian Appalachian novel In Wilderness and Jeremy Hawkins’ nostalgic romp The Last Days of Video. How nostalgic? Big Fish author Daniel Wallace said, “This book should be put in a time capsule. [It] is like the literary missing link, about a time when things were really real.” And as I so often do when talking up the imprint catalog, I’ve run out of space. My apologies to Beverly Lewis on the Inspirational list, Miriam Toews on the Maple Leaf list, and the vast array of bestselling romance authors I neglected to mention. I’ll do better next time.
