Perosino graduated from Cheshire High School in 2000, and he and his wife, and their three children, live in town.

At the Feb. 16 Board of Education meeting, Dr. Mary Gadd, CHS principal and member of the hiring committee, noted that Perosino has served the district as a physical education teacher at the secondary level and has been a coach throughout his career in Cheshire.

Paul (Scrapper) James Simisky, Jr., Anthony (Toby) Christopher Simisky, James (Jamie) Francis Simisky, his sister-in-law, Maryann Simisky and his nephew, Toby Merrill Simisky.

David was a devoted son who loved his family. He was loved by and will be missed by all of them. A memorial mass will be held at a future date.

Also speaking on Perosino’s behalf at the recent BOE meeting was Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jeff Solan, who described the appointment as “the next generation of leadership” for CHS athletic programs.

Perosino said he hopes to build on the work Trifone put into Cheshire athletics and to continue the collaborative work with stakeholders.

Lorraine Maxwell

CHESHIRE - Lorraine

Maxwell entered eternal rest on February 11, 2023. She will be missed by all who knew her. Lorraine was born in Dickson City, PA, the fifth daughter of Daniel and Christine Kowalchik. After graduating from high school, she enrolled in the Nursing School at Temple University and received her RN Certification. She worked in Philadelphia for a couple of years before accepting a position at the West Haven VA Hospital. It was here that she met her future husband, Tom Maxwell. They were married on October 3, 1964.

top priority. She spent 36 years as an RN, and also worked at YaleNew Haven Hospital, St. Raphael’s, Gaylord, and Whitney Center. They had a son, Tom Jr., the light of their life, who prematurely passed away at age 49. Tom called his mom prior to his graduation from Drew University to say that he was being inducted into the Drew University Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa upon his Graduation as Summa Cum Laude. It was the proudest moment as a mother for her.

Being raised by a loving family she had a host of friends that she met as a nurse, as well as any one she met for the first time. She loved to travel and spent many vacations in

Florida, South Carolina and Annapolis, Maryland, as well as Hawaii.

Upon his retirement from SNET her husband became the CT Area Coordinator (AC) for the U.S. Naval Academy Admissions Office, and she attended the conferences with him, and met the wives of other State ACs, the Superintendent, and some of her husband’s candidates who received appointments.

While on a vacation in Florida some years ago she was diagnosed with NonHodgkin’s lymphoma, and thus began many years of chemotherapy treatment. She licked lymphoma, but at a physically draining price. Her indomitable spirit refused to

quit, and she willed herself to continue as best as she could to enjoy her life. She, and her husband, were inseparable and went everywhere together. Her husband lovingly referred to her as his ‘gold nugget’, and he was her ‘Pookie’ As the years went on, she increasingly felt the effects of her bouts with chemotherapy by not being able to travel. She was sustained by many calls from her extended family, as well as visits from them, lifelong friends, and the doting care of her ‘Pookie.’

On February 11th the Lord said ‘Lorraine, it’s time to come home’. She will be terribly missed by her Pookie, until one day when they will meet again. Honey, may you have Fair Winds and Following Seas.

Joanne Kuczynski

CHESHIRE - Joanne

Kuczynski, age 80, of Cheshire, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at MidState Medical Center in Meriden, after a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of Leo Kuczynski for over 58 years. Joanne was born on July 22, 1942 in Derby, daughter of the late Joseph and Marion (Dick) Fiasconaro. Joanne grew up in Ansonia and attended local schools before earning an Associate’s Degree from Southern Connecticut State University. It was there that she met Leo. They married on June 27, 1964 and moved to Cheshire to raise their two daughters, Karen and Amy. After staying home to raise her children, Joanne worked in the insurance industry as an insurance adjuster and rater. She retired from The Hartford in 2004. Joanne was an avid reader, frequent visitor at her local

The Town of Cheshire will hold a free, community-wide mattress recycling event Saturday, March 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Quinnipiac Park, 1325 Cheshire St.

Cheshire residents may drop off mattresses/box springs at no charge.

This will be a contactless disposal.

Items that will not be accepted include:

• Mattresses from futons, sofa beds, water beds, car beds, crib mattresses

• Mattresses infested with bed bugs

• Mattresses that are wet, damaged, or excessively soiled

• Sleeping bags

• Mattress pads, toppers, pillows, bedding

• Furniture, other household items, garbage library, and an expert at crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She was happiest when spending time with her family and enjoying her morning cup of coffee with her husband, Leo, the love of her life. She enjoyed trips out with her daughters and grandchildren to lunch, the movies, and shopping excursions, where she always did her utmost to pick up a trinket to brighten their day. She also enjoyed supporting her grandchildren at their sports competitions, and above all wanted them to know that their Gram and Gramp were cheering them on no matter what. Joanne and Leo enjoyed many trips in retirement including adventures in Italy, France, Germany, Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia, as well as many vacations in Wellfleet, Gloucester and Rockport, MA. There were also trips to southern Maine and Canada and out West to various National Parks. Joanne is survived and deeply loved by her devoted husband, Leo; daughters Karen (Robert) DiNino of Glastonbury and Amy (Janssen) Padilla of East Haven. She also leaves her loving grandchildren, Dedee Baker Kuczynski and Casey Moody of East Haven and Anna and Nicholas DiNino of Glastonbury; her cherished great-granddaughters, Riley and Abigail Moody of East Haven; her sister Diane Henries (William); brother-in-law Thomas Kuczynski; nieces Alison Henries; Elizabeth Henries (Jason Crelinsten) and their children Lucas and Max; Katherine HenriesMeisner (Michael) and their children Thalia and Harrison; and Rebecca Henries - as well as many cousins and longtime friends.
