headed by a campaign leader (like a "Division Manager"!). These campaign leaders will motivate their divisions to achieve the highest rate of participation possible. They are now involved in organizing their divisions and planning their campaign promotions. What a great time to introduce these five people who are the pulse of the '79 United Way Drive.
"When you work for a company like Avon, you really ought to get involved in this kind of program. We're taking a L special Avon approach to United Way this year, and I think it will encourage friendly competition among our fund leaders. I've been with the company for 13 years, and I know many of the people in my area, and I look forward to working with them on this project. " Jim Campion Manager-U.S. Inventory Accounting, Controller's ' 'Several years ago, I worked on the United Way Drive at Avon. Reflecting on it, I think I got ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ « a lot more out ^ ^ ^ of it than I put ™ ^ ^ ^ ^ into it. It was a good feeling working to help the kind of organizations the fund supports. It also was a fun opportunity to meet a lot of Avon people I normally wouldn't get to know." Dudley English Studio Manager, Sales Promotion
"I feel that everyone will be positively motivated for this United Way Drive. jt^gprr ^ ^ Avon is a socx ^^m &\ fl I aliy-minded Bap ^k organization, ^^™ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ and this campaign is consistent with our company's goals. It's really the only time during the year when we're asked to get involved in a dollarand-cents way. The United Way offers a built-in opportunity to give to so many organizations at one time. It's a great cause and we're ready!" Ted Cohen Manager-Sales Estimating Product & Inventory Control

All Hands on Deck! Creating the^tS^ns Cruise 'As long as we both live, my husband and I will never forget the most wonderful, fantastic days (we enjoyed) as winners of Avon's Tempo Sweepstakes Cruise. From a grateful lady to the greatest company in the world, I always knew that Avon was great to work for, but now I will forever sing their praises because my husband and L after 32 years of marriage, experienced the first honeymoon we ever had!" This note from a winning Representative expressed the sentiment and elation that characterized Avon's Tempo Cruise. The Cruise gathered together Representatives from all 50 states, and their guests, plus several District Managers, and Home Office hosts. "We tackled so many unusually creative tasks which none of us had ever tried before," said Cathy Smith, Copywriter in Representative Motivation. "It was such an exciting project." For nearly one year, the Incentives group worked to Put together the Tempo Cruise. They designed every detail of the cruise to give it a personalized Avon touch. They personally greeted all 649 people at the airPort. When they boarded their ship, the Sunward II, a Plane towing a "Bon Voyage, Avon" banner flew over Jne Miami port. For three glorious days, the Tempo Y r u 'se sailed through the Caribbean to Nassau. When [ney arrived in Nassau, they were greeted by the Royal Bahamas Police Band, and they received an official Welcome from the Ministry of Tourism. Possibly, one of the most unusual feats of the trip Was a one-day excursion to a tropical paradise, named Avon Island" for the occasion. There they swam and snorkeled and even had a treasure hunt. Pam Laudenslager, Representative Motivation f a n n e r , assessed the impact of the Tempo Cruise: With this cruise, we took a giant step forward into the area of travel as a motivational tool. Representatives really love to travel! We also learned that we can Succ essfully bring together Representatives from all
