Master Cleanse Overview Spirit of Health at www.spiritofhealthkc.com Vaughn Lawrence ‐ Naturopath, Herbalist I have read both Stanly Burroughs books and the newer books by Tom Woloshyn. Although I still do not, and may never, understand the bias they have against honey, the bottom line is that the cleanse works. I have personally substituted honey, and my clients have as well, with tremendous results, but for the sake of “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it,” we’ll discuss using maple syrup in this program. ** Note that I personally do not recommend this cleanse unless you are 100% sure you have no problems with sugar. Not just physically, but emotionally as well. So many Americans are addicted to sugar, and if sugar is a weakness for you, do not feed the problem by doing this cleanse! There are many better options, and I will happily design you a program to follow. Also understand that sugar feeds all foreign pathogens in the body (candida, fungus, parasites, etc.), and has many other detrimental effects. Of course this applies much more to processed white sugar, but excess sugar of any kind can be a major problem… History The Master Cleanse is time proven. It’s simple and effective. It is not a fast, it’s a cleanse. You are getting lots of nutrients and you are not starving the body in any way. There are many doubters and skeptics out there. I encourage you to learn for yourself, and study the history of cleansing. You’ll be hard pressed to find a skeptic who has even tried a cleanse, and if they do, they would become a believer. Cleansing has been used by ancient cultures since the dawn of humanity for healing purposes. Just because we have chosen to ignore these proven methods in the advent of “modern medicine” does not mean they are still not effective. In fact, they are more important and necessary now than ever before in history because of the world we now live in! Why We Cleanse By not consuming food, you take the heavy burden off digestion and allow the body to focus on cleansing and healing. It can now rid itself of toxins and poisons that have been trapped in the system for years. Illness manifests itself in the body, not by some mystical force in the universe as many “modern” medical professionals would have us believe, but because of toxemia. This is the accumulation of toxins in the body. There are many reasons for this buildup. The foods we consume, the absolute destruction and processing of our food supply, the toxic environment we live in and even our own negative thoughts all play a role. Ingredients Lemon and cayenne pepper are very alkalizing to the body and will neutralize acids. This reduces inflammation and swelling and most conditions in the body result in some type of inflammation. This will help to oxygenate the tissues and the blood. Cayenne pepper will stimulate the heart and naturally


thin the blood. Lemons also break down calcification in the body, such as kidney stones and gall stones. Lemon is an incredible cleansing agent inside the body, high in vitamin C and containing lots of minerals. Do not use Meyer lemons for the cleanse. Cayenne pepper is a catalyst. It makes everything work better. Cayenne will increase metabolism, increase circulation and aid in digestion. It can stop internal or external bleeding. One of the greatest benefits is the ability of lemon and cayenne to break up mucus in the body. Mucus is a protective mechanism used by the body and often traps and stores toxins to keep the body from harm. Unfortunately, layers of mucus build up and are often never eliminated as we constantly bombard the body with more poisons and never allow it to cleanse. As alkalinity increases, oxygen levels increase and mucus is eliminated. Maple Syrup provides you with fuel, providing plenty of vitamins and minerals to sustain you during the cleanse. You always want grade B. Benefits of the Master Cleanse These are benefits that have been documented by both Stanley Burrough, Tom Woloshyn, as well as experienced myself and with my own clients. This encompasses decades of cleansing among thousands of people… Better sleep, increased energy levels, clarity of mind creating a burst of awareness, positive outlook on life, increased flexibility, weight loss, freedom from addictions, increased strength, reduced swelling and pain, hair stops falling out, skin improves and becomes healthier, allergies reduced and often eliminated and healing from major illnesses, including all digestive complaints. How Long to Cleanse I recommend 10 days for true benefits. If you do 3,5,6 days you will initiate the cleansing reaction, but then abruptly stop it, which is not good. Remember the first 3 days are usually the most difficult. You can do anywhere from 10‐40 days easily. There have been people who have done the master cleanse for over a year straight. The longer you go, the more benefit you will receive. *Keep an eye on your tongue. As long as it is white, yellow, brown, pasty and coated, you need to cleanse longer, until pink ideally! This may take a series of cleanse’s. Getting Started Go on a vegetarian diet for 4‐5 days before the cleanse which will prepare your body. Wean off coffee, soda and any caffeine. Buy your ingredients. Get enough lemons for 3 days at a time. Buy organic lemons, cayenne pepper, Grade B Maple Syrup, Sea Salt or Himalayan Pink Salt and an herbal laxative. Contraindications People who have had organ transplants or are on immune‐suppressant drugs cannot do the master cleanse. Because the Master Cleanse will stimulate and increase immune system activity, this can cause the immune system to attack the transplanted organ. Be aware that all drugs may work better during the master cleanse as the functions of your body systems, organs and absorption will all increase. This may have an undesirable effect based on your medication dosage. The Steps to the Master Cleanse 1. Take the herbal laxative the night before you start the cleanse. 2. The next morning take herbal laxative again or do a salt water flush (one tablespoon of sea salt or Himalayan rock salt in a quart of room temp/warm water) 3. Drink the water, lemon, cayenne and maple syrup drink all day as needed. This is the only thing you will consume. Drink 6 to 12 8oz. glasses per day as needed. ‐Keep lemons on counter at room temperature. ‐Only use laxatives for short periods of time while cleansing, never use long‐term ‐You can take herbal laxative in capsule or tea form, this may cause short term diarrhea ‐After drinking the salt water, expect to eliminate ½ to 1 ½ hours after taking. If you do not go to the bathroom, add more salt next time you try it ‐Do the saltwater flush 3 times during a ten day cleanse, do more if longer cleanse ‐Take time to drink salt water, up to 10 minutes, drink at body temperature ‐If during your bowl movement you have soreness from toxin elimination, apply extra virgin coconut oil on affected area Making the Drink For a ten day cleanse you will need approximately the following: 60‐80 lemons (organic or farmer’s market), 2 quarts of maple syrup, ½ cup sea salt or himalayan pink salt, 10 gallons of good water, more if you will drink extra or make tea, 2 ounces cayenne pepper, herbal laxative. Each Glass 2 Tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice 2 Tablespoons Maple Syrup 1/10 teaspoon of cayenne pepper (teaspoon, not tablespoon, very important!) 8 oz good quality water (spring, ionized, distilled (must add minerals back in), reverse osmosis, etc.) ‐Always make each glass fresh, do not make up gallons at a time. Drink it within 10 minutes after preparation. Make a drink every time you feel hungry. ‐Start first drink 1 hour after laxative, or after elimination from salt water flush ‐Drink 6‐12 glasses, or more. Some have done 26 glasses per day while training for triathlons ‐If you cannot make fresh drink each time, mix equal parts maple syrup and lemon juice in dark container, keep cool in thermos. When needing a drink, mix 4 tablespoons of the mixture into a glass, add cayenne and water, stir. ‐You may drink water also during the day, and herbal teas if desired. But drink mostly the combination drink. Never microwave water.


Healing Crisis and What to Expect Everyone responds differently to a cleanse. Although this sounds against conventional theory, you want to experience a healing response. In other words you may have headaches, achy joints, feel stiff, cold/flu symptoms, runny nose, lots of mucus, sore throat, low energy, etc. This is good news! This means the body is stimulating healing and old toxins and poisons are being thrown out of the system! Knowing this and being aware of it helps you to understand that embracing this experience is key. You may feel nausea, have bad breath and body odor as your body eliminates poison. You may stir up old emotions and feelings, and you may feel old toxins resurface. For example, if you used to smoke, even years ago, you may taste or sense smoke being cleared from the body. Toxins from foods you have not eaten in a long team will enter the bloodstream and potentially cause cravings. Be ready for this. What you should also notice is increased awareness and sensory activity. For me, this is usually around day 4 or 5, but varies person to person. You will suddenly realize you can smell better, see better or hear better. We have become so desensitized to the world around us, partly because of the toxic bodies we live in. Most people have one or two days that are most difficult during the cleanse. ** Make sure you follow instructions. Most people who have a bad experience do the cleanse wrong, or change something on their own accord. Supercharging the Master Cleanse One thing absent from the Master Cleanse that would be of enormous benefit to anyone would be doing a series of colonics at the same time. The root of all sickness starts in the intestinal tract. Although the master cleanse does a great job of cleansing the body, it may not get all the old, trapped matter stuck to the bowel walls and trapped deep in pockets within the colon. During the Master Cleanse would be an ideal time to do this. I think you will be surprised to see that after day 10, day 20 and maybe even day 30, you still have matter coming out of you during colonics! This can be a real eye opener as to what causes sickness inside your body. I recommend doing one every other day during the cleanse. I would be happy to give you a recommendation for the colonics, besides water. Many people use clay, chlorophyll, coffee, garlic, herbal combinations, etc. to accentuate their cleansing. Colonics should be done using the open system. You can have this done at the same location at Spirit of Health. Talk to Angel or Shanda. This is critical! Many people live to eat instead of eat to live. If you over‐indulge after the cleanse, you will damage your body. You should be able to appreciate and truly taste each individual food you eat now, as your senses have increased. You have choices when coming off the cleanse, but take it easy and be wise. Remember your stomach is the size of your fist, but people have a stretched out stomach, and they want to always feel full which is a huge mistake.


After the cleanse, your stomach has shrunk, so eating too much will make you miserable. Here are some options: Day 1 and 2 Drink fresh squeezed juices; orange juice, apple juice, pineapple juice or vegetable broth in morning. Vegetable soup or broth for supper. Day 3 Vegetable broth, soup or whole fruit for breakfast. Small salads for lunch and supper. Day 4 Resume normal eating, but again be wise. Learn how to eat smaller portions. If you eat meat, only a palm sized portion per day, it is very difficult for the body to digest. No processed foods, white sugar, white flour, etc. Make a lifestyle change for ultimate results! Here are some more tips for maintenance after the cleanse: ‐After doing the Master Cleanse, you may feel your old lifestyle and eating habits no longer suit you. You can literally change your body chemistry to now desire proper foods, and no longer mindlessly eat everything put in front of you. ‐Eat raw foods high in enzymes ‐Eat alkalizing foods, not acidic foods, follow the 80/20 rule ‐Drink plenty of pure, fresh, clean water during the day ‐Get plenty of natural fiber sources for bowel regularity ‐Exercise! I cannot emphasize this enough. Weights, cardio, yoga, walking, sports, just move. ‐Relax, pray and meditate daily ‐Find a job you enjoy doing, don’t be a slave to work ‐Stop using products that contain tons of chemicals ‐Don’t use your microwave, unless using for storage ‐Surround yourself with friends who love and support you
