Hello, Hello from the Redcar & Cleveland College Schools Team. As we get closer to the new academic year and with enrolment just around the corner, we want you to know that you are fully supported in every way. Your exams may have been cancelled, but your place at Redcar & Cleveland College isn’t.

We have been working closely with our course tutors to develop our ‘Get Started’ programme to help you get started in your chosen course and ensure a smooth transition into college life. Over the next couple of months we will be sending you lots of information and top tips. If you have any questions about the course tasks in this booklet please do not hesitate to contact the course leader who will be able to help. Welcome, Hello and welcome to the Public Services department at Redcar & Cleveland College. We hope you are staying safe and well. It is not long to go until you enrol with us in August 2020. Over the next few months we are going to be sending you some information and tasks to complete over the summer to help you get started on your course. TASK 1: RESEARCH PUBLIC SERVICES CAREERS For this task we would like you to research different careers within the uniformed public services. We would like you to use the National Careers Service website to learn more about careers. On the next page we have provided you with a worksheet to add your answers next to the five careers we would like you to research - police officer, army officer, firefighter, royal navy officer and royal air force officer. 1. Visit the National Careers Service website by going to: https://nationalcareers.service.gov.uk/explore-careers 2. Enter one of the five careers we would like you to research into the box on the website. 3. Make some notes about the different careers in the worksheet on the next page, how much you could earn, what skills you might need and what day-today tasks you will be doing in these careers. 4. Once you have completed this task, save the document and email it, along with your name and the course your have applied for to: mark.watts@cleveland.ac.uk Deadline for submissions is: Monday 6th July 2020.

TASK 2: YOU ARE GOING ON AN EXPEDITION... Our Public Services and Policing courses have lots of outdoor activities for you to get involved with, this could be activiities from team building to developing map reading skills. For this task we would like you to think about the different items you would take on an overnight expedition with you and why. Your list should include ten items that you consider are essential for this expedition and why. The expedition could be to anywhere in the UK during any season of the year so you must be prepared for all weathers. There is a worksheet on the next page where you can make a list of the items and why you would take them on the expedition. Once you have completed this task, please save the document and email it, along with your name and course you have applied for to: mark.watts@cleveland.ac.uk. Deadline for submissions is: Monday 6th July 2020.
