Advanced Learner Loans
Your course may be free if you qualify for any of the below:
If you are aged 19 or over and are planning to study a level 3-6 further education course or Access to Higher Education programme you may be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan. If eligible, you can apply for a loan to meet the upfront costs of your qualification, which will be paid directly to the College on your behalf.
>> Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) >> Employment Support Allowance (ESA) in the Work-Related Activity Group >> Universal Credit >> Unemployed and receiving a state benefit >> Employed or self-employed and eligible for co-funding and earning less than £16,009.50** annual gross salary
If eligible, you don’t need to pay anything up front and you will only start to pay back the loan when you earn over £25,725** a year. Loans will not be means tested or subject to credit checks.
>> Aged 19-23 without a full Level 2 or 3 >> Over 16 and under 19 years old on 31 August 2019 * Please note: Evidence of your benefits, or if you are in employment, evidence of your gross monthly/annual wage, must be provided at the point of enrolment to support your claim. When Do I Need to Pay my Fees?
Part-Time Student Finance
If you are not entitled to fee remission or an Advanced Learner Loan, you will be required to pay for your course at the time of enrolment. This can be in cash, by cheque or credit/debit card.
Eligible new part-time students undertaking designated higher education courses can take out a yearly tuition fee loan from Student Finance England. Your course will be free at the point of entry and you only make repayments if you are earning over ÂŁ25,725** per year once you have completed your course.
If your employer is paying for your fees, you must provide a letter of authorisation at enrolment.
Paying in Instalments We can provide you with an easier payment option to help split the cost of your course. An initial deposit is required on the day of enrolment. This is to be followed by monthly instalments, which are to be paid by direct debit. Please note: The full balance needs to be paid off before the end of the course.
The courses in this guide designated for tuition fees are: >> First Degrees >> Foundation Degrees >> Higher National Certificates The amount of fee loan a student can apply for cannot exceed the fee charged by the university. For further information and advice about loan applications, please contact our Student Services team or visit: www.gov.uk/student-finance **Subject to change.

HOW WE CAN SUPPORT YOU Financial Support The College has student support funds, which provide financial support if you are on a low income. Subject to meeting eligibility requirements, funding may be available to help with the cost of your books, equipment, travel and childcare. Awards are means tested and require evidence of household income. Evidence of earnings or benefit must be dated within the last 3 months.
Childcare Provision Redcar & Cleveland College offers nursery provision in partnership with local day nurseries, as well as other childcare providers. We may be able to offer a number of free or partly funded places to students who are in receipt of certain benefits or who are experiencing financial hardship. Please note that awards are means tested and subject to applicants meeting eligibility criteria.
Care to Learn The Care to Learn scheme aims to meet the childcare and additional travel costs of young parents under the age of 20 years. For more information about this fund or to request an application form, please call the Care to Learn helpline on 0800 121 8989 or visit www.direct.gov.uk for more information.
