Additional elements are added to the Prince’s Trust Schools programmes to motivate and enhance the student experience. One of these additions is Forest School. Forest school activities have been embedded into our Prince’s Trust school’s delivery as we feel it offers individuals the opportunity to be become more autonomous. In school and daily life there is an emphasis to conform to academic expectations and follow strict rules / guidelines. Working outside encourages people to think for themselves in an environment where there is scope for individual expression.
Learning is embedded in Forest School, much like English and Maths within the Prince’s Trust Achieve course. Forest School is incorporated within core units and linked to practical activities. Forest School largely focusses on Experiential Education – Learning by doing. The activities undertaken within these sessions link to units that we undertake during the Prince’s Trust Achieve programme. There may also be an opportunity for learners to complete a specific Forest School Level 1 Award. The activities that are included in our programme include the following;:
Flint and steel / Fire
Shelter building
Archery
Campfire cooking
Conservation tasks
John Muir Award
Prior to any activities undertaken we will provide the school with a Forest School Handbook. This contains the ethos of activities we deliver; staff qualifications; health and safety documents and other useful information relating to the activities that are on offer.

What others say about the Prince’s Trust Schools Delivery
Prince’s Trust
SRC Proudly Delivering Prince’s Trust For 20 Years
“The activities were planned around each student’s learning needs, which meant that our pupils were able to identify, areas of personal development, plan activities to address these through a personal development plan. Clearly, this promoted autonomous attitudes within the students, consequently, the students were able to take responsibility not only for the current learning but future learning needs. As well as improved engagement within school context, our students were able to actively participate in exploration post 16 further study and preparation for adulthood. Within this period, we have seen our students develop self-esteem harness the skills, grow in confidence in other areas of their lives. Watching pupil ‘grow and shine’ was fantastic” Steve Rees Behavior mentor The Mo Molam Academy “Students that have taken part have thoroughly enjoyed their experiences of the Princes Trust and have always asked if they could do ‘more’ when the course has come to an end.” “The course offers activities in and out of the classroom and has led to our students developing
self-esteem, confidence and self-worth in addition to skills relating to team work, conflict resolution, employability and problem solving. They have enjoyed the challenges of their outdoor activities which was able to bring them together as a team.’’ Dr C A Lear - AHT-SENDCo (VALT) Egglescliffe School “I believe that the programme gave our students the confidence to look at themselves and how other people perceive them as well as looking at what and where they see themselves fitting in society after school. “ “The engagement of the students with every week became more and more noticeable, at first its new and the students were hesitant at first but over time the programme brought out their individuality and the course enables them to become confident and able to verbalise their thoughts about the tasks involved and where they need to be to fulfil those tasks.” Gary Jude Include base Curriculum Leader Northfield School
