HOW TO ENROL Here at Redcar & Cleveland College, you can enrol throughout the year for our part-time courses. Once you have decided which course you would like to study, follow these easy steps and you will be enrolled in no time... Course information

You can enrol on our part-time courses from Tuesday 28 August 2018. With our courses starting at various dates throughout the year, enrolment for our part-time courses is open all year round. To confirm a date and time for your enrolment, please contact Student Services on 01642 473132. Alternatively, you can visit us during our Summer Enrolment Week on Tuesday 28 Friday 31 August 2018. PAYING FOR YOUR COURSE HOW MUCH WILL IT COST TO STUDY? If you are aged 16-18 you will not have to pay tuition, registration or examination fees.* Fees are given alongside each course in this guide. OTHER FEES Other fees can include registration, exam and certification fees, and in some cases residential fees. INTRODUCTORY COURSES If you are aged 19 or over and receive one of the benefits listed, you may not have to pay tuition fees. LEVEL 1 COURSES If you are aged 19-23 and you do not already have a Level 2 qualification, you will not need to pay any tuition or exam fees for an Entry or Level 1 course.

Earn less than £15,736.50 annual gross salary, based on the Social Mobility Commission’s low pay threshold of £8.07 (hourly rate in 2016) and on the assumption of a 37.5hr contract with paid statutory holiday entitlement

Please note that evidence of your employment must be provided at the point of enrolment. This could be a wage slip dated within 3 months of your learning start date, or a current employment contract which states gross monthly/annual wages. *Please note that full cost, Higher Education and Level 3 and above courses that attract Advanced Learner Loans are not eligible for fee remission.

PAYING FOR YOUR COURSE CONTINUED LEVEL 3 COURSES Your course may be free if you qualify for Level 3 Entitlement. Find out more below: LEVEL 3 ENTITLEMENT If you are aged 19-23 and studying for your first full Level 3 qualification you will not need to pay tuition, registration or exam fees. In some cases, this could be a first full Level 4 without having attained a first full Level 3 qualification. All of the categories listed are subject to the student satisfying UK/EEA residency requirements. All courses eligible for Level 3 Entitlement are marked with this icon:  ADVANCED LEARNER LOANS Advanced Learner Loans are student loans similar to Higher Education Loans, but for further education students. Advanced Learner Loans are available to students aged 19 or over, studying at Level 3 or 4, including QCF Certificates and Diplomas, and Access to HE. You will need to have been a resident in the UK for 3 years prior to the start of the course. For further details, please contact Student Services on 01642 473132 or visit www.gov.uk/advanced-learner-loan/. LOAN REPAYMENTS If eligible, you don’t pay anything up front for your course fees and, once completed, you do not need to pay anything back until you earn over £25,000. Loans will not be means tested or subject to credit checks. You will not have to pay back your Advanced Learner Loan if your loan is for an Access to Higher Education programme and you progress to and successfully complete an approved Higher Education programme, which is eligible for student finance. WHEN DO I NEED TO PAY MY FEES? If you do not get fee remission or are enrolling on a course that is not eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan, you will be required to pay for courses, registration and exam fees at the time of enrolment. This can be in cash, by cheque, credit or debit card. If your employer is paying your fees the College will need to see a letter of authorisation at enrolment. Please visit Student Services for support in applying for your Advanced Learner Loan or Higher Education Loan. PAYING IN INSTALMENTS We want to make it as easy as possible for you to pay for your studies. Instalments are permissible on tuition fees of over £300 and are as follows: An initial deposit of 25% of the course fees is required, followed by three monthly instalments on or around the first working day of the month. Please note, this service does not include registration, exam, residential or other course fees, which must be paid at enrolment. The first payment, plus all other costs, must be paid at the point of enrolment. Further payments are to be made by Direct Debit. THE EASIER PAYMENT OPTION DOES NOT APPLY TO HIGHER EDUCATION COURSES Full details regarding fee remission, loans and finance are explained within the College’s Fee Policy which is available on the College website and at the point of enrolment. HE LOANS PART-TIME STUDENT FINANCE Eligible new part-time students undertaking designated Higher Education courses can take out a yearly tuition fee loan from Student Finance England. Your course will be free at the point of entry and you only make repayments if you are earning over £25,000 per year once you have completed your course. The courses in this guide that are designated for tuition fees are: •

First Degrees (BA Education & Training)

Foundation Degrees (FdA Early Years, FdA Supporting Teaching and Learning)

Higher National Certificates (HNC Building Studies, Chemical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Instrumentation & Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering)

Initial training of teachers (Certificate in Education, Prof Grad Cert Ed)

The amount of ‘fee loan’ a student can apply for cannot exceed the fee charged by the university. ELIGIBILITY FOR PART-TIME TUITION FEE LOAN To be eligible for financial support for a part-time undergraduate course you must meet certain criteria: •

You must have ‘settled status’ in the UK i.e. be a UK citizen or have been granted ‘indefinite leave to remain’ by the Home Office

You must also have lived in the country for at least three years prior to the beginning of your course. This does not apply to people granted refugee status

You must be enrolled on a course which is at least the equivalent of 25% (normally a minimum of at least 30 credits) of a full-time course. All the designated courses listed in this section meet this criterion

Your course must last for at least one year

EQUIVALENT LEVEL QUALIFICATION •

You are not entitled to the part-time tuition fee loan if you already have a qualification that is equal to or higher than the qualification you wish to study

Initial Teacher Training courses are exempt from the above restriction

HOW WE CAN SUPPORT YOU FINANCIAL SUPPORT

CARE TO LEARN

The College has student support funds which can provide financial support if you are on a low income. Subject to meeting eligibility requirements, funds may be available to help with the cost of your books, equipment, travel and childcare. As these funds are limited, we recommend you apply as early as possible if you think you could benefit from this support.

This scheme aims to meet the childcare and additional travel costs of young parents under the age of 20 years. For more information about this fund or to request an application form, call Care to Learn helpline 0800 121 8989 or visit www.direct.gov.uk for more information.

Note that we cannot guarantee to support all applicants. Awards are means tested and require evidence of household income. Evidence of earnings or benefit must be dated in the last 3 months. CHILDCARE PROVISION Redcar & Cleveland College offers nursery provision in partnership with local day nurseries, as well as other childcare providers. We may be able to offer a number of free or partly funded places to students who are in receipt of certain benefits or who are experiencing financial hardship. FANTASTIC FACILITIES AIRLINE CABIN Take off in Redcar & Cleveland College’s mock airline cabin facility, designed to give students the skills and experience needed to take to the skies. The fuselage, taken from a partial interior of an Air France 757, is complete with seats, overhead storage, food and drink service, duty-free and life jackets. Students will be taught how to serve customers in a simulated flight experience, gaining the required skills they will need to work for some of the largest airlines in the country. LEARNING RESOURCE CENTRE

FITNESS SUITE

Our experienced staff will help you find the materials you need in the Learning Resource Centre, where there are quiet study booths as well as small tables for group discussion. All students attend an induction that is tailored to their learning needs and their area of study/research. Higher Education students are also able to access learning resources and facilities remotely and on site at Teesside University.

At Redcar & Cleveland College we care about our students’ wellbeing and fitness. That is why we have a brand new state-of-the-art fitness suite on site with the all the equipment students need to help live a healthy lifestyle. The college also has Level 3 Personal Trainers who, as part of their course, can offer fitness and nutritional advice to you and can also plan workout regimes to help you stay in shape.

THERAPEUTIC CARE WING Our unique state-of-the-art learning environment provides excellent opportunities for those wanting to join or develop their skills within the health and care sector. The Therapeutic Health and Care Wing incorporates: •

A fully equipped three bedded ward with interactive patient dummies and medication trolley to explore all areas of patient care

The patient home simulation allows training for rehabilitation skills including ageing suits and occupational therapy aids

A sluice and dirty utility for demonstrating infection control practices

A clinic and nurses station to develop skills in confidentiality, observation, data protection and communication

A flexible teaching area which includes space to accommodate 25 students in lecture style seats so that practice and theory can be linked together.

A reproduction training Ambulance and Emergency room to enhance understanding of critical care and rapid response

HIGHER EDUCATION CENTRE Redcar & Cleveland College is your local College offering courses to local people in partnership with your local University. We are here to bring you the highest standards of teaching and learning, outstanding facilities and the best Higher Education experience available. The College has a purpose-built Higher Education Centre sponsored by Teesside University and the Sir William Turner Foundation, offering university-standard facilities. The Higher Education Centre is equipped with the best teaching and learning resources available, including a 250-seat lecture theatre with advanced audio visual technologies, dedicated ICT, specialist engineering workshops and learning resource facilities exclusively for the use of higher-level students. The Centre, housed in its own dedicated wing, is spacious, comfortable and conducive to study. It features relaxation areas and quiet study zones, allowing you to make the most of your time in the Centre. Secure, safe on-site car parking is available to all students, as is access to the College’s main leisure facilities, including the hair and beauty training salon and the sports and fitness centre. ACCESS TO HIGHER EDUCATION Are you looking for a fast-track route into Higher Education? At Redcar & Cleveland College, no formal entry qualifications are required. Our Access to Higher Education Diploma is a Level 3 course which prepares you for study at degree level. If you do not have the qualifications you would normally need to study for a degree then this is the course for you! It is recognised as an entry qualification by UK Universities and Colleges offering Higher Education courses, which actively encourage applications from Access to Higher Education students. There are no formal entry requirements and no upper age limit. A diagnostic assessment to assess suitability will be required.
