Lutheran Church of the Redeemer’s Statement of Welcome

We serve a God of abundant grace and generosity Our worship is centered on the invitation that Christ offers at the communion table: all are welcome in this place. That welcome flows through all we do and say We open our arms to everyone who comes to share our love of God and all God’s people. We affirm and value the lives of everyone, including all who have been marginalized by ability, age, gender, gender identity, mental or physical health, poverty, race, sexual orientation, or any other circumstance Let our message be clear: all are welcome to participate fully in the life of our congregation.

Important Weather Update

We are monitoring the road and sidewalk conditions around the church As of now, the plan is to hold our regular schedule of worship and faith formation events. If the conditions in Midtown deteriorate overnight, we will send out a congregational email by 7:30 AM Sunday morning indicating that we will be worshiping online only. Please carefully monitor the conditions in your neighborhood and place the safety of you and your family as of the highest importance.

Pastor Mark H. Larson, preaching

The theme of the Day

Sunday's festival rejoices in God’s blessings. We recall and celebrate our adoption as God’s children, the gift of the Holy Spirit, and the promised company of almighty God when we “ pass through the waters . . . the rivers fire ” On this day the heavens open again for this assembly, and we receive the gift of God’s Beloved, Jesus, in bread and wine.

Rejoicing Spirits- January 26th

What better way to kick off the new year than with your Rejoicing Spirits friends! As much of our culture is pressuring us to ‘optimize’ our bodies and minds, let’s stop and celebrate what they can already do, and how we are already bringing our best to the people and world around us.

This special worship service is designed to be accessible to people of all abilities- yes, that means you! We are all beloved children of God with strengths and weaknesses. People with disabilities and their caregivers need the support of their faith community We all need to be reminded that whatever our abilities, we are enough. Come to be a friend and make some amazing new friends! Meet in Rudisill Hall from 10:15 - 10:45 (before or after attending your usual service!)

Come and join our weekly practicing while strengthening our mental, emotional and spiritual health in difficult political and global times The meditation practices will be in English

Tuesdays 5 pm | Zoom

Join Pr Jonathan for a discussion of the The Rev Elizabeth Edman's book, 'Queer Virtue.' Rev Edman is an Episcopal priest whose book posits that Christianity, at its scriptural core, incessantly challenges its adherents to rupture false binaries, to “queer” lines that pit people against one another. As always, reading is optional, we are glad to be able to create a space for everyone to learn and grow together If you have any questions, please email Pr Jonathan at jtrapp@redeemer org

Over the last few days, multiple wildfires have broken out across Los Angeles County in California, with over 100,000 people under evacuation orders Sparked by dry conditions, strong winds and a limited water supply, these fires have destroyed homes and businesses and have led to injuries and loss of life

This disaster is just one of many including hurricanes, war and famine to which Lutheran Disaster Response is still responding. Your gifts to Lutheran Disaster Response equip us to respond quickly and generously, wherever and whenever disaster may strike.

Firefighting efforts continue in Southern California, and we won’t know the full impact until the fires are extinguished. Even as these fires still burn, Lutheran Disaster Response is here to support the families and communities that will be rebuilding their lives
