LUTHERAN CHURCH OF THE R EEMER

ATLANTA, GA

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalm 139:14

Building on the theme explored by our youth at this past summer's ELCA youth gathering, this fall we will explore the theme of Created to Be

We are created to be...

Brave: to show up with an open mind and heart and be willing to be challenged

Authentic: to bring our whole selves and know that we are loved by our creator

Free: to be transformed by the gospel and the offer of new life

Disruptive: to work for justice for all our siblings and the entire creation

Generous: to share our God-given gifts of time, talents and treasure to build up the kingdom of God.

Disciples: to be sent out into the world to love our neighbor like we are loved by God

Through our worship, service, fellowship and outreach, together we will transformed into the unique and gifted disciples we have been created to be.

FamilyCampingTrip

Redeemer families headed to Camp Glisson in Dahlonega for a weekend of family camping. We gathered around campfires, gazed at the stars, waded at the base of a waterfall, cooked good food together, explored who God has CREATED us TO BE, raised our voices in worship, laughed hard, and played a LOT of Gaga Ball! Whatever size and shape your family is, we hope you’ll join us next year!!

RejoicingSpirits RejoicingSpirits

Make a joyful noise to the Lord all the earth!

—Psalm 98:4

What is Rejoicing Spirits?

Rejoicing Spirits is a worship service for people of all ages and abilities. It is worship that encourages all to share their gifts in a comfortable, shush-free setting where difference is celebrated and ‘can’t’ is thrown out the window.

Should I go to Rejoicing Spirits?

YES! We are all beloved children of God with strengths and weaknesses. People with disabilities and their caregivers need the support of their faith community. Come to be a friend and make some amazing new friends!

Do I have to choose between RS and my fave Redeemer service?

NO! RS is once per month, and occurs during Faith Formation Hour. You might miss part of your adult Faith Formation class, but next week you can tell them all about Rejoicing Spirits!

With Deepest Gratitude

Dear Redeemer Family,

Words cannot express the gratitude and love I have for each of you who have welcomed me to serve among you here at Redeemer! You’ve opened your hearts and homes to me, in times of joy and pain, times of celebration and vulnerability, and I am forever grateful for each of you! Thank you for showing me the love of Christ and encouraging me in ways you’ll never know!

It has been a joy to serve alongside each staff member and rostered minister here too. Each of you have taught me so much about the church, welcomed my ideas (good and bad), and shared both highs and lows that come with ministry. I will forever carry your friendship with me.

My prayer is that God continues to bless and flourish the ministry of Redeemer here in Midtown and beyond! God is up to really amazing things here and I am so honored that I got to be a very small part of it!

I hope we’ll get to do ministry together here in Atlanta in unique ways and that I’ll get to hug your necks when I see you out and about!

God loves you all and so do I!

With deepest gratitude, Pastor Jennifer Roberts

Prayer Presence Practices

Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus - Philippians 4:6-7

And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching. - Hebrews 10:19-2

Love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer - Romans 12:9-13

Free family-friendly event for Midtown community offers live music, food, libations, games, and more

Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, a cornerstone of Atlanta’s faith community since 1903, gives Midtown a blast of German-inspired fun with Oktoberfest at Redeemer, a free and festive event open to all, taking place 4-7 p m on Saturday, October 19

Oktoberfest at Redeemer comes to life with a live German band, a German beer garden, food trucks, games and more. The event, which is Redeemer’s second annual block party, serves as a gift to the Midtown community.

“Oktoberfest at Redeemer is not only a celebration of our German heritage, but also a celebration of Midtown itself and the colorfully diverse community found within,” says Pastor Mark Larson, senior pastor of Lutheran Church of the Redeemer

The lederhosen-wearing Atlanta German Band brings live entertainment to the stage, playing an array of traditional German Oktoberfest music and popular American-style oom-pah tunes. The strains of trumpet, accordion and tuba invite guests to glide across the floor to everything from waltzes to polkas to the crowd favorite “Chicken Dance ”

Fuel up on brats and other delicacies, as well as an array of sweet treats Explore the German beer garden where craft brews and wine flow for those age 21 and older The family-friendly festivity offers hands-on games and other activities where kids can dive into playtime.

“As always, Redeemer’s doors are open to everyone, and Oktoberfest at Redeemer is no exception,” Pastor Larson says. “We are thrilled at the opportunity to ring in the fall season with both new and familiar friends, and share the light and love of a wonderful community ”
