REDEEMER BIBLE CHURCH // ANNUAL REPORT 2021

REDEEMER FAMILY, The year 2021 will be one referenced in our church for many years to come. It was the year the Lord entrusted to us our first “Sending Base.” As we have said all along, the facility doesn’t make the church, and yet as we close the year we thank God for the provision of a place for us to headquarter our ministry. As excited as we are for the Sending Base, what fires us up even more is the work God is doing in and through the people of His church. This has been another year of massive work that the Lord has done. Our mission is to glorify God by making disciples and we make disciples as we multiply new believers and mature existing believers. We have much to celebrate on both the multiplying and maturing fronts from this past year. In 2021 we saw: .

God work the miracle of salvation in people's hearts as they trusted Christ as Savior.

A number of people go public in their faith through baptism.

The most students we have ever had attend Summer Camp where God moved mightily.

God continue to draw the hearts of our young ones in Redeemer Kids where He is powerfully at work through an amazing team of leaders.

Our young adult ministry live out a beautiful Acts-like faith where the Lord has continued to add both in number and in great spiritual depth.

Our discipleship groups continue to strive ahead in community with one another.

God move us forward in what it means to be in “Formational Community” together.

People step into the calling of living 4W lives.

Neighbors engaging neighbors and co-workers who were far from God in conversations about faith in Jesus.

Homes opened to those hurting in the body in need of community to come around them.

Our first church plant, DOXA Bible Church, turn one this year as God has done some truly amazing things in their midst.

All of these things and more you will find celebrated on the pages that follow. Psalm 126:3 says, “The Lord has done great things for us; we are glad.” That sums up another year of the Lord’s faithfulness to His church. He has done great things. He has made our hearts glad. He gets all the glory for it. To Him be the glory in the Church,

COMMUNITY Discipleship isn’t a one-and-done mission. My walk with Christ isn’t something that is ever complete—and neither is yours. While my initial faith in Christ is settled by grace through faith in the completed work of Jesus, it isn’t the finish line. It’s just the starting line. I am constantly being formed, transformed, and re-formed into the character of Christ. I am being continually sanctified. Christ is formed in me. It is this sense of formation that has led us to the central theme of our new discipleship curriculum. Too often modern Christianity has been about the things we must learn. “If I could just understand it better, I’ll be mature.” But that’s only partially true. Other times we’ve made it all about the obedience or activity. “If I just do the right things, I’ll be mature.” But that’s just as incomplete as the other side. Over time I’ve become increasingly convinced that the target isn’t what I know or what I do, but who I am and who I am becoming. This is the mindset we bring into formational community. Spiritual Formation is about becoming. It’s about learning and obeying, but not as the end goal. The end goal is being like Christ. Being Formed. Christ formed in me.

This 7-week class is designed to help you understand the core doctrines of the Christians faith from a biblical and practical perspective through up-front teaching, classroom discussion, and weekly homework.

We need each other. Growing in Christ is a team sport. Designed to take the members of your group from “I think I want to be in a group;” to “I’m committed to this group and everything it is trying to accomplish.” Formational Community is the starting place for each group. This 8-week study incorporates the vision for groups, the biblical “one anothers,” and the 4W Life into one streamlined resource.

F O R M AT I O N A L L E A D E R S H I P (Launched August 22, 2021)

Healthy leaders lead healthy groups. Growing disciples make growing disciples. But how? Formational Leadership sets the foundation for disciple-making in the church. This 4-session training equips discipleship group leaders to understand the vision, be a growing disciple-making leader, lead the discipleship group environment, and develop the next generation of leaders.

Leaders need to be cared for and cultivated. Coaches are in the business of disciple-making leadership development and Formational Development teaches them how to do it. This training will equip our strongest and most faithful leaders to equip and devlop other leaders.

REDEEMER YOUNG ADULTS

I am blown away by what God has done in the last year. When the ministry first began in Fall of 2020, I hoped for 20-30 dedicated young adults (YAs), but the Lord has wildly surpassed my hopes. A true “Acts 2” community has begun to form. I am simply in awe of what God has done as I think back to the lives transformed by Christ, baptisms, 4W Life moments, generous giving, and many testimonies shared on Wednesday nights. The one word we continue coming back to this year is transparency. What I hear most often from new YAs is that this community feels truly authentic, and they encounter God when they attend. Praise Him! The Lord has given me more of a kingdom mindset as I have watched YAs get called by Him to move for work, active duty orders, and ministry. It has been bittersweet to see large numbers move on, but ultimately we know this makes our church more of a sending base than ever! While many are called elsewhere, even more are coming in search for truth, community, and a place to learn how to follow Jesus for real. Jeremy Hendon | Director of Young Adults

In the midst of a year full of change, Redeemer Student Ministry has kept the same consistent focus: Help students take one step toward Christ. We watched that happen as our middle school students served our church and community early in the year, during summer camp, on Sunday nights during discipleship group time, and, Lord-willing, we will watch it continue next year. Our mission in Redeemer Kids is to connect kids to Christ through the Word of God. It’s been an incredible year where we saw God do amazing things in the midst of a lingering pandemic. From February to September, we transformed the gym and hallway at CPMS into our Redeemer Kids space using temporary walls, carts of supplies, and more, and we are so thankful for our nearly 100 leaders and volunteers that helped us restart Redeemer Kids strong! On October 3rd, we were able to have our grand opening in the new sending base and it has been a blessing to serve an average of 180 kids each weekend since! Over the year we thank God for opportunities to serve families such as our Family Serve Day, Parent Commissionings, Freedom Springs Night, First Tuesday Kids, Thanksgiving Journals, and Family Advent resources. VOLUNTEERS IN ‘21

VOLUNTEER HIGHLIGHT SET UP LEAD: LINNEA MITCHELL During my 5+ years serving on the set-up team, God used the inconspicuous task of setting up chairs to connect me to His body at Redeemer, grow my marriage, and teach me more about what it means to be created in His image. My husband was a member of the core group, and Redeemer is a big reason why we put down roots in Indiana. I left my hometown in Illinois and the church I had attended all my life, so establishing relationships and community was certainly my biggest need and challenge. I’m not exactly the best conversationalist. Whereas my husband Paul is more relationally focused, I am task-oriented. Therefore, the opportunity to help put away chairs after service (which quickly transitioned to setting up chairs beforehand) was a Godsend. I like to help. I’m happy to talk to people as long as I have something to do with my hands. Setting up chairs helped me to meet people, and I got to learn about others as we served together. We strengthened relationships by problem-solving together. And we built trust as we learned to rely on each other.

This is where setup intersects marriage. I could always count on Paul to fill in when our team was short. Eventually, he got added to the roster not because setting up chairs was the best use of his spiritual gifts or particularly interesting him, but because he chose to love and support me by helping me in an area in which I delighted to serve. As Redeemer continued to grow, we navigated new challenges for setup. Small groups were recruited to help and I particularly enjoyed this season, as it not only alleviated the pressure to make sure we had a full crew to set up the worship center before service, but it also gave me the opportunity to get to know and build relationships with people I might not otherwise have met. Lastly, serving as a setup lead grew me in my understanding of what it means to be created in God’s image. In Genesis 1, we see God as Creator and a God of order. Setting up chairs isn’t exactly a feat of creation, but there was something very satisfying about clearing out the worship area, setting up the chairs with care, and then looking out to see the orderly array of chairs we had arranged. Finding joy in setting up chairs may sound strange, but there is nothing strange about delighting in the work God has given us. Early on, God taught me to embrace and delight in this facet of my character. God wired me this way, and He delighted to use me to serve in setup. It’s easy to dismiss the everyday tasks as menial. It’s easy to grow impatient as we wait for what we see as better or our goal. Yet we serve a God Who knows the number of hairs on our heads, and He will work in and through every facet of our lives if we submit to Him and slow down to see what He is doing.

DOXA It’s been a busy year at DOXA! They are growing every week and continuing to make disciples. They’ve had the opportunity to help plant two churches in India and have started a “3 Circles” discipleship class that provides tools to turn everyday interactions into gospel conversations. We look forward to the coming year to see where God will lead our DOXA family!

GERMANY THE BÜLTEMANNS Jonas has served as the lead pastor of Free Church on Bohlweg in Münster, Germany, since November 2020 and is beginning the work of revitalization. They have already seen the Lord do great things. Here are a few highlights from 2021:

Bought 40 new chairs to accommodate new people on Sunday mornings

Talking to partners in the city of potentially renting a school auditorium (if they grow to over 100 people at a service)

Baptism Sunday coming up (3+ people to be baptized!)

THE GRÜNINGS The Grüning family has settled in fairly well since moving to Germany this last spring. One of the largest adjustments has been constantly hearing and speaking German, but they are continuing to learn. Here is an update from Dennis: “We are continuing to grow in our dependence on the Lord as we face challenges in communication, culture adjustments, and weariness. We have all felt the importance of passionate worship (We miss Redeemer in this way!)

and God is teaching us to be grateful that we have the ability to worship, even if the way it is done is not what we would prefer. We had the special joy of meeting up with Jonas and Paige Bültemann and it was wonderful to watch them serve Christ and talk with them about the challenges. It was good to hear how God is blessing their ministry efforts and it seems that Proverbs 21:5 is a good reminder for both of us: "The plans of the diligent will surely lead to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty." Ministry is tough but faithfulness will bear fruit. May God be made great in our service!”

MINISTRY The need for biblical counseling is very large in Germany. Unfortunately,

. churches often have no idea what biblical counseling is or have little to no

structure to offer it. Dennis has had the opportunity to participate at training sessions with a local church and has taught a course in ”Basics of Biblical Counseling”. He will also start more teaching at a bible school in the spring.
