I Want to Make My Home in You Preparation for the sacraments of reconciliation and the Eucharist
First Holy Communion
This programme is designed to prepare children for receiving the sacraments of reconciliation and the Eucharist or to deepen their understanding of these sacraments. This resource is the result of a long and fruitful journey accompanying children in catechesis in France. It is an updated version of a popular and effective programme, launched in 1990. This updated version contains: the text of the word of God, taken from the Jerusalem Bible, references to the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) and other catechetical documents. Material to help the catechist: cut out illustrations and suggested songs for the children, suggestions to help integrate the children into the parish community, and regular liturgical celebrations within the programme to ensure greater participation in the Church’s liturgy. Catholic Sacramental Resources Called by God Reclaiming the meaning of baptism Margaret Jones & Ellen McBride
Called by God seeks to reclaim the real meaning of baptism as the beginning of a new life in Christ. With scripture readings and reflections, a detailed look at the elements of the rite of baptism, and discussions and advice on raising children to know the person of Christ, it aims to meet parents wherever they are in their own journey of faith. This comprehensive resource contains all the materials needed to run the course and can be adapted to suit the needs of your parish. As well as presenting you with the course material itself, our expert authors take you through the historical background and biblical and Church teachings on the sacrament of baptism, giving you the knowledge and confidence to support parents. On a practical note they give you guidance on how to organise the sessions, providing checklists to help you prepare for each one, and a download pack containing sheets for the parents and godparents attending. The parents’ booklet supplements the sessions and gives time for parents to reflect on the sessions. The keepsake booklet gives time and space for parents/guardians to reflect on the sessions and will act as a reminder and keepsake of this time spent preparing for their child’s baptism. Downloadable handout sheets included, go to: www.rpbooks.co.uk

Preparing for Marriage in the Catholic Church
Fr Tom Creagh Fuller & Lisette Blanchet Ball Redemptorist Publications has produced this comprehensive programme that has been successfully running in the Archdiocese of Southwark for many years. Preparing for Marriage is made up of two books: an A4 workbook for couples (two per couple) which is full of information and exercises on everything from conflict to family of origin and sexual love to sacrament and vocation; the book for catechists has advice on how to deliver the material, suggested frameworks for running your own programme and two DVDs that include videos that can be shown to couples for each topic – some are anecdotal from couples while others have more of a presentation style. Preparing for Marriage aims to help you with a ready-made, but easy to adapt and personalise, programme that will help you to prepare couples to live a healthy, happy, Catholic marriage. The Rite of Baptism of Children outside Mass
The Funeral Liturgy outside Mass
Reception of the Children
Reception at the Church
All stand. A suitable hymn or psalm may be sung. The celebrant greets the parents, godparents and friends at the church door (or wherever is customary) and speaks to them of the special joy of this occasion.
The bringing of the body of the deceased to the church by family and friends may take place at the beginning of the principal funeral liturgy or, for example, the night before, at a Vigil of Prayer.
The celebrant questions the parents of each child, in these or similar words:
Greeting
What name have you given your child? The parents give the child’s name. Then the celebrant asks the parents:
All stand. The minister greets the mourners at the door of the church.
What do you ask of God’s Church for N.?
A priest or deacon will do so in these or similar words:
Parents: Baptism.
The celebrant addresses the parents:
You have asked to have your children (child) baptised. In doing so you are accepting the responsibility of training them (him/ her) in the practice of the faith. It will be your duty to bring them (him/her) up to keep God’s commandments as Christ taught us, by loving God and our neighbour. Do you clearly understand what you are undertaking? Parents: We do.
May the Father of mercies, the God of all consolation, be with you. People: And with your spirit. A lay minister will do so in these or similar words:
Blessed be the God of all consolation, who has shown us his great mercy. Blessed be God now and for ever. Amen.
The celebrant next addresses the godparents:
Are you ready to help these parents (the parents of this child) in their duty as Christian parents?
Godparents: We are.
The Order of Celebrating Matrimony between a Catholic and a Catechumen or a Non-Christian The Rite of Reception All stand for the entrance procession. The celebrant greets the bride and groom and leads them to the seats prepared for them. The celebrant may address them in these or similar words:
N. and N., the Church shares your joy and warmly welcomes you, together with your families and friends, as today you establish between yourselves a lifelong partnership. For believers God is the source of love and fidelity, because God is love. So let us listen attentively to his word, and let us humbly pray to him, that he may grant you your hearts’ desire and fulfil every one of your prayers.
The Liturgy of the Word
All sit. During the Liturgy of the Word there may be brief periods of silence for prayerful reflection. There may be either one or two readings.
The celebrant addresses the children to be baptised:
Sprinkling with Holy Water
My dear children (if only one is to be baptised he greets the child by name), the Christian community welcomes you with great joy. In its name I claim you for Christ our Saviour by the sign of his cross. I now trace the cross on your forehead(s), and invite your parents and godparents to do the same. Following the celebrant, the parents and godparents now trace the Sign of the Cross on the child’s forehead.
The Liturgy of the Word
The word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.
In the waters of baptism N. died with Christ and rose with him to new life. May he (she) now share with him eternal glory.
The cantor or reader sings or says the Psalm, and all make the response.
Entrance Procession
The coffin is now carried forward in procession, preceded by the minister. It is brought to the place reserved for it, usually before the altar, where it stands close to the Easter candle, a sign of Christ with us, our hope and the Light of the World.
All sit. During the Liturgy of the Word there may be brief periods of silence for prayerful reflection.
A suitable psalm, hymn or other liturgical song may be said or sung.
First Reading
First Reading
At the end of the reading, the reader acclaims:
The minister now sprinkles the coffin of the deceased with holy water, a sign of baptism and of the everlasting life in Christ it offers.
Psalm
Gospel
All stand. The Alleluia or Acclamation may be sung or said to welcome the Gospel. The minister says:
The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. A reading from the holy Gospel according to N. Glory to you, O Lord. At the end of the Gospel, the minister acclaims:
At the end of the reading the reader acclaims:

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. People: Amen. The celebrant greets the people in these or other suitable words:
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. And with your spirit.
The celebrant addresses the couple and all those present:
We have come rejoicing into the house of the Lord for this celebration, dear brothers and sisters, and now we stand with N. and N. on the day they intend to form a home of their own. For them this is a moment of unique importance. So let us support them with our affection, with our friendship, and with our prayer as their brothers and sisters. Let us listen attentively with them to the word that God speaks to us today. Then, with holy Church, let us humbly pray to God the Father, through Christ our Lord, for this couple, his servants, that he lovingly accept them, bless them, and make them always one.
