When it was bedtime at the zoo, Every animal knew what to do. The roaring lions, laughing hyenas...
chattering chimps and trumpeting elephants...
all
went ...quiet
" S e e y o u l a t e r, " w h i s p e r e d t h e a l l i g a t o r, "I'm off to bed."
"Me too!" Squawked the cockatoo. "Sssame here." softly said the snake.
But like you animals at the zoo have things to do before going to bed. Getting changed is first on the list, into warm and cosy pyjamas just like those of the llamas.

Then it's a good wash, Of whiskers and paws. Of faces and jaws.
Giving teeth a good brush till they're sparkling clean.
A kiss, a cuddle and a little, little huggle then into bed.
Then a few SleepDrops before a stor y is read.

Establish a regular and consistent pre-bed routine. This is an example of how your evening should be planned. Alter it as appropriate to your family. - Gentle play time together - Dinner - Bath/shower - PJ’s - Quiet time - Give either SleepDrops for Babies ( 0 to 3 years) or SleepDrops for Kids ( 3 years to 12 years) - Drink (preferably not dairy based unless still an infant) - Brush teeth Try to follow the same routine at the same time each night. Remove all stimulating activities especially “screens” or electronic devices 1.5 hours before sleep time. Create a soothing sleep enhancing bedroom. - No lights - Quiet music - Black out curtains - Comfortable bedding - Dust free and natural fibres Make sure they have their favourite toy or blankie with them.
Important considerations for all little lions Make sure your child is going to sleep at an age appropriate time. Most kids need to be asleep by 7:30pm at the latest. Make sure your child is getting the age appropriate amount of sleep. The following is a guideline: 1 year old – 14 to 15 hours 1.5 to 3 years old – 12 to 14 hours 3 to 5 year olds – 11 to 13 hours
Dietary influences: Low grade ( IgG) food allergies can stop children getting to sleep and can cause them to wake in the night or awake early. They can also contribute to bed wetting, low immunity, learning and behavioural issues. If your child is not settling and sleeping all night without waking please seek advice from our team of Naturopathic Sleep Specialists at www.SleepDrops.co.nz
6 Pop your child into bed and start a conversation about their day or help them say their prayers. 7 Give either SleepDrops for Babies ( 0 to 3 years) or SleepDrops for Kids ( 3 years to 12 years) 8 Start reading their bed time stories. Establish that it is a set number of books each night. Be consistent. 9 Tuck them in. Say “Goodnight I love you”. 10 Teach your child ‘deep sleep’ slow breathing techniques from a young age. Show them how to do it. 11 Tell them to close their eyes. 12 Leave the room. If your child is young and won’t stay in bed for long, you will need to stand outside the door. Wait 30 seconds, go back in. Pat their head say “Goodnight” and leave the room again. Wait 90 seconds and go back again. 13 Repeat as necessary extending the time each time. If necessary give either SleepDrops for Babies ( 0 to 3 years) or SleepDrops for Kids ( 3 years to 12 years) 14 Once your child is asleep turn off any night lights you may have left on.
