Francisco Pacheco – Art and Wellness

ART EXHIBITION: FRANCISCO PACHECO- ART AND WELLNESS When: Until 11 November 2017 Where: The Art House Wyong This exhibition by Francisco Pacheco will showcase a large number of artworks in oil, acrylic, watercolour and ink that are the culmination of work done exploring the use of imagination and colour to change or enhance what we would otherwise call “reality”. Francisco will also be running some free workshops on “Drawing with Imagination” where attendees will have the opportunity to spend a morning exploring different ways of increasing their mental activity whilst drawing and producing beautiful artwork. Francisco Pacheco is an international artist who lives on the Central Coast of NSW and has been painting for the last 40 years, 29 of those in Australia. He has a portfolio of more than 30 large solo art exhibitions and has been running art workshops and talks at a number of Libraries, Galleries and Aged Care Living Centres. His art workshops focus on the use of imagination and are directed at improving the wellbeing of the attendees and the quality of life and increased mental activity of people suffering from depression, alzheimer’s and other illnesses. Francisco studied Art, Education, Industrial Engineering, Management and Information Technology and had a number of scientific papers presented and published in several countries. to Port Stephens, with the celebrations continuing all month! Three specially-brewed festival beers are being released, including the brewer’s first Kransky smoky sausage beer, and Black Forest beer. Oktoberfest food features Kransky Burgers, smoked meats, housemade pretzels and more. And there will be live entertainment each weekend across October. The Oktoberfest in Munich is the largest festival in the world. In 2017, over 7.3 million litres of beer are expected to be consumed there. This consumption accounts for about 30% of the entire annual beer production of all the Munich breweries combined. Visitors also eat a staggering 400,000 sausages - or around one sausage for every two seconds during the festival’s business hours! And the festival record for number of beers carried in one go is 27! “It seems that beer really can stimulate an economy,” added Murray. “In Germany, Oktoberfest is one of the nation’s biggest exports, and last year the Oktoberfest festival generated a staggering AUD$1.63 billion for its economy.” Many people may not know that Oktoberfest is also the name of a beer style.

This Scottish Highland Gathering will be held at The Entertainment Grounds, Gosford and will feature the NSW Pipe Band Championships, and the Central Coast Scottish National Dancing Titles. DURAL COUNTRY FAIR 2017 When: Sunday 29 October 2017 Where: Dural Public School This year’s fair will have plenty to entertain everyone. Our rides will be bigger, better and run for longer. This year there will be 8 rides included in the armband price, as well as an extra hour of ride time. That’s right, rides will start at 10.30am and run until 3.30pm giving you another hour to enjoy them all. The armband price will be $25 pre - purchased or $30 on the day of the Fair. This year we will also feature an under 5’s ride armband which will enable the littlest of our Fair goers access to 8 rides/activities suitable for under 5’s only for the low price of $10. We will also have a great main stage located on the top oval that will showcase some great singers including – Cherri Jam and local country music singer Rachael Fahim. There will be reptile and bird shows from Wild Animal Encounters (that feature on Foxtel’s National Geographic channel) throughout the day, as well as KindiFarm’s Animal Petting Zoo featuring all your favourite farm animals. Dural Public School students will not be performing at the fair this year, we wanted them to just be able to have fun and enjoy the whole day, however we have organized local groups Jenna’s Singing School, Stratosphere Dance, Taekwondo World Castle Hill and Hills District Martial Arts to showcase their talents in dance, martial arts and singing. Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre has commissioned the artist to develop and present a 6-channel digital video work where Groom performs an extended conversation between herself and the wife of a former Prime Minister in a stately Manhattan home. Based upon an actual conversation, the installation seeks to expand upon the language of ownership and authority surrounding western perceptions of Aboriginal art and culture, unveiling the indistinct nuances of interpretation and the potentially shocking hidden truths that language can possess. Reimagining the conversation and the behaviours of both parties, Groom unpacks what was said, what was imagined to be said, and what it could have really meant. As a bookend to the conversation, the exhibition features the painting, Untitled – by the very subject of the conversation, Anmatyerre artist, Emily Kame Kngwarreye.

WILD SWANS IN CONCERT – AND OTHER MYSTICAL MUSIC When: Saturday 11 November 7.30pm Where: The Joan The breathtaking music of Wild Swans in Concert is inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s famous fairy tale The Wild Swans: a young girl Eliza is driven from her home by her wicked stepmother who turns her eleven brothers into wild swans. To break the spell, Eliza must knit eleven coats out of stinging nettles, find the swans and dress them in their jackets - all while keeping silent. Elena Kats-Chernin’s haunting and evocative music to Meryl Tankard’s ballet Wild Swans captivated audiences around Australia when it was first performed by The Australian Ballet and broadcast on ABC TV. From the 90-minute ballet score, KatsChernin arranged a shorter, 12-movement concert suite, recorded by the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and Jane Sheldon. In 2010, Wild Swans became the theme music for ABC Radio National’s Late Night Live program until the end of 2015. Now – on 11 November at 7.30pm - The Joan proudly presents Kats-Chernin’s breath-taking piano and vocal score in concert format, with two of Australia’s most outstanding pianists – Tamara-Anna Cislowska and Elena Kats-Chernin - playing live on stage, joined by New York based Australian soprano Jane Sheldon, who is described by the Sydney Morning Herald as ‘superb, with a voice of penetrating beauty, precision and variegated colours’. This incredible piano score will be played by four hands on one piano with Sheldon’s spectacular soprano voice rising above the music, and will be accompanied by photographic images created and curated by the extraordinary photographer and visual designer Regis Lansac. Rice-Paper Fish Parcels with Lemon-Grass Rice Give your dad’s breakfast a Mexican twist with these soft tacos filled with vine-ripened tomatoes and creamy scrambled eggs. INGREDIENTS

• 200g (1 cup) basmati rice • 1 stem lemon grass, pale section only, bruised

• 2 tablespoons shredded coconut • 1 red capsicum, halved, deseeded, thinly sliced

• 1 carrot, peeled, cut into batons • 4 green shallots, ends trimmed, thinly sliced lengthways

• 8 square (16cm) rice-paper sheets • 8 small (about 400g) ocean perch fillets • 1/3 cup loosely packed fresh coriander leaves

• 1 tablespoon kecap manis •

METHOD Step 1 Cook rice, lemon grass and coconut in a saucepan of boiling water until tender. Drain

and remove lemon grass. Return to pan along with capsicum, carrot and shallots. Cover and set aside. Step 2 Meanwhile, soak a rice-paper sheet in a bowl of warm water until soft. Drain on paper towel. Transfer to a clean work surface. Place 1 fish fillet, skin-side down, in the centre of rice paper. Top with 2 coriander leaves. Fold rice paper to enclose fish and form a parcel. Repeat with remaining rice paper, fish and coriander. Step 3 Place the fish parcels in a steamer over a saucepan of boiling water and steam for 2-3 minutes or until the fish is just cooked through. Spoon rice among plates and top with fish parcels.
