RECIPES

Crumbed pork steaks with apple mash Juicy crumbed pork served with apple and potato mash makes for a quick and easy midweek meal.

Ingredients • 700g sebago potatoes, peeled, roughly chopped • 300g Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, roughly chopped • 1 1/2 cups panko breadcrumbs • 8 (500g total) pork sizzle steaks • 1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil • 300g green beans, trimmed Method Step 1 Combine pesto and butter in a small bowl. Set aside until required.. Step 2 Place potato and apple in a large saucepan. Cover with cold water. Bring to the boil over high heat. Reduce heat to medium-high. Boil for 15 minutes or until tender. Drain well. Return to pan. Mash until smooth. Add milk. Season with salt and pepper. Mix well to combine. Cover to keep warm.

Step 3 Place the flour on a plate. Whisk egg with 1 tablespoon water in a shallow bowl. Place breadcrumbs on a plate. Working with 1 steak at a time, coat in flour, shaking off excess. Dip in egg mixture, then coat in breadcrumbs, pressing to secure. Place on a plate. Step 4 Heat oil in a large frying pan over mediumhigh heat. Cook steaks for 2 minutes each side or until golden and just cooked through. Transfer to paper towel to drain. Step 5 Meanwhile, cook beans in a saucepan of boiling water for 1 minute or until bright green and just tender. Drain well. Toss with lemon zest. Season. Serve steak with mash, beans and pesto butter.

Smoky whole baked cauliflower Cauliflower goes from humble side to smoky star in this easy vegetarian recipe. INGREDIENTS • 1L Massel vegetable liquid stock • 1 whole cauliflower (1kg) • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika • 50g stale bread, cut into 0.5cm cubes INGREDIENTS 25cm round ovenproof baking dish METHOD Step 1 Place Massel Liquid Stock Vegetable Style in a medium saucepan and bring to the boil. Add cauliflower and boil, covered, for 5 minutes. Carefully flip cauliflower over and boil, covered, for another 5 minutes or until par-cooked.. Step 2 Preheat oven to 200C or 180C fan-forced. Transfer cauliflower to a 25cm round ovenproof baking dish. Pour stock into a jug.

Step 3 Heat same pan over medium heat to dry. Melt butter in pan. Add flour and cook, stirring, for 1 minute. Slowly whisk in 1 1/2 cups reserved stock until smooth. Add cream and cook, stirring, over medium-high heat for 2-3 minutes or until sauce boils and thickens. Remove from heat. Stir in cheese until smooth. Season. Pour over cauliflower. Step 4 Combine seeds and paprika in a small bowl. Combine bread and oil in a medium bowl. Sprinkle cauliflower with bread and seed mixture. Bake for 25 minutes or until golden and bubbly. STEP 3

You can never have enough storage space in your bathroom. That’s why these wooden towel shelves are the perfect addition to any bathroom. They’re easy to make and we’ll show you how. STEP 1. PREPARE YOUR WORK SPACE To make the job even easier, work out the length you want your shelves to be and have timber cut to the right size at selected Bunnings stores. Our shelves are 700mm long.

STEP 2. PREPARE THE PLYWOOD Using primer, paint or spray the plywood liberally and wait for it to dry. Primer provides excellent adhesion for the paint STEP 3. MEASURE THE PVC PIPE Measure PVC pipe and cut to a length of your choice. 8cm is a good place to start. Use PVC pipes of varying widths to suit your requirements STEP 4. CUT PVC PIPE TO LENGTH Using a hacksaw, cut the PVC pipes to size. Securing the PVC pipe with a vice will make cutting easier. Once your pipes are cut, sand the pipe edges so they are smooth.

STEP 5. PRIME THE PVC PIPE Spray the cut pipe with primer and wait for it to dry. STEP 6. PAINT THE PLYWOOD Using a colour of your choice, apply the first coat of paint to the plywood and let it dry. When dry, lightly sand it for a completely smooth surface, and apply the second coast.

STEP 7. PAINT THE PVC PIPE Using a selection of colours, paint or spray the PVC pipe pieces and let them dry. STEP 8. CREATE YOUR TREE Use masking tape to mark out a triangle shape on your plywood, it can be any size you like. Ensure the triangle is large enough to fit all the PVC pipe pieces.

STEP 9. GLUE THE PIPE PIECES TO THE PLYWOOD Using a hot glue gun, stick the PVC pipes to the plywood. Press down on the pipes for 3 to 5 seconds to ensure they are secure. When dry, remove the masking tape from the plywood. STEP 10. DECORATE YOUR TREE When you are confident the tree is dry, insert decorations of your choice into the pipes STEP 11. FINISHED! Now all you have to do is find the perfect place for your tree, stand back and admire it!
