Painting directly onto existing architecture, interiors and landscapes, she incorporates reams of fabric, mounds of earth and slabs of concrete. Tropfest, the world’s largest short film festival, is a free, outdoor event. Set in Sydney’s beautiful Parramatta Park, a summer calendar would be naked without it! The atmosphere is electric and the film screening is well attended by Australian film celebrities and thousands of Sydneysiders.

History buffs and paranormal enthusiasts alike should get a spooky thrill at the regular St Bartholomew’s Church and Cemetery Ghost Tours at Ponds Road, Prospect.

Tropfest is unique in that all films submitted must be under seven minutes in length and include a theme, known as the Tropfest Signature Item or TSI. The TSI for this year is ‘Pineapple’. Head to Parramatta Park in February for a night of film like no other!

The church dates back to 1841 and its cemetery contains the graves of many early settlers including explorer William Lawson. According to tour guides, there is one troublesome ghost at the site and tour participants have claimed to have been unable to move when they’ve approached his tombstone, while others have complained of nausea. Immerse yourself in this tour as the guides recount stories about the lives of the people buried there. Lucky tour participants may even get to meet them! Recommended for those aged over 12 years.

RECIPES

METHOD Step 1 Preheat oven to 180C/160C fan-forced. Grease the base and sides of a 20 x 30cm slice pan. Line with baking paper, allowing the long sides to overhang. Step 2 Use electric beaters to beat the eggs, sugar, stevia and vanilla in a bowl on medium-high for 3-4 minutes or until thick, pale and a ribbon trail forms when the beaters are lifted. Step 3 Sift the flours and baking powder over the egg mixture, in 4 batches, gently folding with a large metal spoon, adding the oil with the last batch. Pour mixture into the prepared pan. Smooth the surface. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until pale golden and cake springs back when lightly touched. Cool in pan for 10 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Trim cake edges. Cut into 32 pieces. Step 4 For the icing, combine all the ingredients in a heatproof bowl. Microwave on High, whisking every 30 seconds, for 1-2 minutes or until smooth. Step 5 Line a large baking tray with baking paper. Place the coconut in a shallow bowl. Using a fork, dip the base of the lamington in the icing. Holding the fork with the cake in 1 hand, spoon the chocolate icing over the cake to coat the sides. Allow excess icing to drip off. Roll in coconut to coat, pressing gently to secure. Transfer to prepared tray. Repeat with remaining cake. Set aside to set. Source: www.taste.com.au

HOW TO

GROUT TILES Putting grout between your wall tiles fills in any gaps, helps keep them clean and gives you a smooth professional look. With a little know how, you can do it yourself. In just a few steps, we’ll show you how to mix the grout, apply it to the tiles and clean up after. Grout comes in a wide-range of colours, so choose one that best suits your décor. STEP 1. MIX THE GROUT Put on your gloves and safety gear. Pour a small amount of water into the clean bucket and add some grout powder. Mix until it has an even consistency, about the same as toothpaste. If it is too runny, add more grout powder, if it’s too thick add a little more water. To find out more watch our How to mix grout video. STEP 2. LAY DOWN SOME DROPS SHEETS Protect your floor from splatters by laying drop sheets on them and use masking tape to keep them secure. Then remove any spacers between the tiles before you start. STEP 3. APPLY THE GROUT ONTO THE TILES Dip your grout float into the mixture and spread a

generous amount onto the tiles. Use the float to make sure that every joint is full of grout. Always try to grout diagonally across the tiles, so the mixture goes into the gaps. Run the flat edge of the float across the tiles to remove the excess grout. Keep applying the grout until the mixture in the joint starts to set. STEP 4. WIPE OFF THE EXCESS GROUT Wet your sponge and wring out all of the excess water. Wipe diagonally across the tiles, until you have a nice clean joint that is full of grout. Repeat the grout and wiping off excess grout processes until all the tiles have grout between them. Once the grout is completely dry, put on your safety gear and buff the tiles and grout with a soft cloth.
