basic buttermilk scones These scones are a delicious treat to serve at your morning tea. INGREDIENTS • cups sel raisin flour • 1 tablespoon caster sugar • Pinch of salt • 60g butter, chilled, chopped • 3/4 cup buttermilk • Extra buttermilk, for brushing • Raspberry jam and whipped cream, to serve

METHOD Step 1 Preheat oven to 220C/200C fan-forced. Line a baking tray with baking paper. Position oven rack in the top half of oven. Step 2 i t flour su ar and salt into a bo l. dd butter. sin fin ertips rub butter into flour mi ture until mi ture resembles fine breadcrumbs.

Step 3 ake a ell in centre o mi ture. dd buttermilk. sin a flat bladed kni e stir until a sticky dough forms. Turn out onto a li htly floured sur ace. nead ently until just smooth. Step 4 sin a li htly floured rollin pin ently roll dough out until 2cm thick. Using a 6cm round cutter, cut out scones. Press leftover dough together. Repeat to make 12 scones. Step 5 Place scones, just touching, on prepared tray. Brush with buttermilk. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden and hollow when tapped on top. Serve with jam and cream. banana and cinnamon french toast Turn a French toast breakfast into a gourmet classic with cinnamon spice and banana. INGREDIENTS • 3 eggs, lightly beaten • 1/2 cup milk • 1/4 cup cream • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence • 1 tablespoon icing sugar • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon • 4 x 2.5cm-thick slices day-old brioche (see note) • 2 tablespoons butter • 3 bananas, sliced lengthways • Pure maple syrup, to serve

METHOD Step 1 Combine eggs, milk, cream, vanilla, icing sugar and cinnamon in a large jug. Whisk with a fork until well combined. Pour mixture into a shallow ceramic dish.

Heat 1 tablespoon butter in a large frying pan o er medium heat until bubblin . dd soaked brioche. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes each side or until golden. how to make a hanging plant Your Mum will love hanging these plants out in her back yard. They’re a great gift for Mother’s Day and will remind her of you every time she sees them. STEP 1. SOAK COIR AND MOSS

STEP 4. PACK COIR AROUND ROOTS

Take your string and wrap it around the moss a few times. Tie it off and repeat the process a couple of times until the moss is held firmly in place. STEP 7. MAKE THE HANGER

Start by soaking your coir peat and sphagnum moss in separate buckets of water.

Take the coir from your bucket and tightly pack it around the roots of the plant, moulding it into a ball shape.

STEP 2. CHOOSE A PLANT

STEP 5. WRAP MOSS AROUND ROOTS Tie a piece of string to either side of the ball to make a hanger for the plant. Then simply hang that over a hook and you’re done. STEP 8. WATER PLANT

Select a plant to hang. Any potted plant will do but we’ve chosen a succulent. STEP 3. REMOVE PLANT FROM POT

Take some sphagnum moss from your bucket and flatten it out on your bench. Place the plant with coir peat in the middle and wrap the moss tightly around it. STEP 6. WRAP STRING AROUND

To keep your hanging plant watered, just hold it by the hanger and dip it into a bucket of water every so often.
